Mix-It Up

This past Friday was the
fourth annual Mix-it Up
Basketball Tournament. The
boy's in the Mix-it Up club
worked hard to create teams
made up of boys in grades 6-
8. Sportsmanship was the
theme of the afternoon. It
was spectacular to see the
JHS participating in a fun
and intense bracket tourna-
ment. Everyone was includ-
ed and it made for a truly
special afternoon. Thanks to
the many teachers and
Rabbeim who helped to
make this program a
success.

Rebbe-Talmid Game

This past Friday, the Rabbeim took on the Varsity Basketball Team. The Rabbeim kept
there wining streak from last year winning by a land slide! The students enjoyed watching
the game unfold! Hope the Rebbes can keep their winning streak next year!

Sixth Grade Environmental Program

As part of the Language Arts Curriculum, the sixth grade students were visited by the New York State
Department of Environmental Conservation. They taught the students about the effects of land pollution
using a water table. Students were able to make world-to-text connections on the environment when
compared to the classroom novel that they are reading - “The Giver.” In addition, the environmentalists
visit also connects with the next unit of study, where our students will be reading nonfiction expository
text, and using this information to write an informational essay on environmental issues.

Sunday Morning Learning

This past Sunday the fifth-eighth grade students and parents enjoyed learning from Rabbi Russek, “Please speak
in Shul, but only to HaShem!” Rabbi Russek gave numerous Rabbinic teachings based on commentaries,
describing the importance of refraining from talking during davening and the tremendous merits that a person
attains through maintaining the proper decorum in shul. He told stories to inspire the emotion of connecting each
of us to leanr the proper way to sit in shul.
