Exec Thoughts
REBECCA DIMMICK |HEAD OF SENIOR Pursuing Peace Through Reconciliation
“Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.” 2 Corinthians 13:11
This is a significant week in the Australian calendar. As a nation we remember the past, investigate the present and hope for the future.
As a nation, we have broken relationships, lived with injustice and allowed the suffering of others. As a nation, we still have broken relationships, live with injustice and often allow the suf- fering of others to continue. As a nation, we hope for restora- tion and reconciliation.
As Christians, we know that it is only as we restore our relation- ship with God that we can truly pursue peace. It is His ‘shalom’ that can truly reconcile us to each other and bring the healing that both our land and our people require. Wolterstorff (1983) says “Shalom at its highest is enjoyment in one’s relationships.... With God, with self, with fellows, with nature.”
As I have considered the repercussions of our past and the existing struggles, I have also looked upon the faces of our future. I have seen young people who have had the courage to restore relationships, seek peace, glorify God and stand up for their beliefs. It is a blessing to see hope in action.
My prayer is that we as adults will continue to strive for peace. That we will walk with integrity and help our young people move towards restoration and reconciliation. That we will have the courage to be role models who promote justice.
May this truly be the Great Southland of the Holy Spirit.

Nuclear Winter
ZAYNE MALLETT | YEAR 8 CREATIVE WRITING
The sunset filled the sky with a deep red flame setting the clouds ablaze like a bonfire setting ablaze - ablaze the bonfire went. The fire of the sun was like a hand reaching out and heating the earth up and when the sun goes down the heat is gone and winter sets in. It was cold, very cold, so cold that it would nearly freeze you alive. You could hear a cracking sound like a glacier cracking – the grass turned to ice and the trees turned to poles. The sound of the city streets disappeared and the sound of planes flying over is all gone – everything is all gone.
After the Great War there was nothing – nothing but a frozen nuclear wasteland nothing but ruins, ruined cities, ruined cars, ruined streets, ruined homes and ruined lives. As I look out to the wasteland all I see is a frozen white blanket of radioactive snow and I can see people fighting like a bear and a wolf. The wind was cyclonic like and you could hear wolves howling, sparks flying across the city as people try to get power for heating to survive this winter. There are people out there, people who survived now try to survive this life. They now live in there run down homes in the run down city with their run down stuff.

“I grabbed the black and white scratch paper. Then I took a paddle-pop stick and used it to scratch the paper. I drew a volcano with lava spewing out of it.”
Charnè
“In Week 5 we made an Earthquake Shake-Table that was for Extreme Earth. First, we made houses out of sugar cubes and vegemite. Then for step two we put the houses on barbecue trays filled with different terrains. We shook the table and took photos for evidence.”
Luke
“For Technologies, we have been coding with Lego MindStorms. We have learnt lots of things like using the Bricks (Big Motors) and Medium Motors.”
Joshua and Patrick
“We made a Cam Project. What it does is make the frog jump. We had a few problems like how to stop the stick turning when the frog jumps. Eventually we got it working.”

CO2 DRAGSTERS
WOOD TURTLES & ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWING
STUART BOND | DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY TEACHER
This year our Year 7 students have been hard at work designing and building CO2 dragsters. They have employed various skills, including orthographic drawings, measuring and marking out, and learning how to use various hand tools. Once their dragsters were complete they were able to race them against each other. The drag- sters took average of 1 second to travel 20 metres. Which is approximately 72km/h.
In Term 1 and 2, our Year 8s have been working on wood turtles. They continue to build on their hand skills learnt in Year 7, while also introducing power tools such as the disc sander, band saw and wood lathe.
This year in Year 9, students have continued to learn new skills and build on skills learnt in Year 7 and 8. They have taken a wood- en step stool and learnt how to produce an orthographic drawing from this existing item. Using the orthographic drawing, students have then used various tools and machines to produce their own step stool. After students completed their step stool they are completely designing a 5 volt LED lamp using new and recycled components. Once they have a design in place they will build their lamp and then assemble the lamp kit and install it into their lamp body.

What’s Happening...
In Year 11
After a shaky start with resumption to school after the “Pandemic” disruptions at the end of Term 1, the Year 11 students have been heading towards the end of their first Semester of the NTCET.
With the continued separation for assemblies, they have been conducted via Zoom, the Year 11s have taken on their share, and Kia Plumb gave a message at a recent assembly.
The students have settled into a routine of study and classes. Study usually happens in the Resource Centre.
In our PCG sessions, the focus has been on time management strategies and study skills. Students also shared their ideas at the start of the term on how they had been creative during some lockdown time they had before schools resumed as normal. Other discussions have been around overcoming the fear of sharing your gifts and talents God has blessed you with. We have found that we have some talented students with hidden musical and dance gifts.
In Year 11 Food and Hospitality, students had to research a chosen Religious or cultural festival or tradition. They then had to choose a dish from that festival/tradition and create it.
In Year 11 Physics, the students have been building on their practical skills and learning that accuracy with these experiments can be crucial. In the recent activity there were some very accu- rate results obtained.
