Exec Thoughts
AMBER BADENHOP | HEAD OF MIDDLE He has shown you, O mortal,
what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
And to
with your God.
Micah 6:8
William Wilberforce became a British parliamentarian in the late 1700s, whose tireless work saw the end of the slave trade in England in 1807, and ultimately seeing freedom being grant- ed to all slaves in the British Empire in 1833. You may have seen the movie ‘Amazing Grace’ telling the story of his life. Wilber- force was involved in social reforms which sparked changes to improve factory conditions in England and helped to establish care and education for children (on their day off from factory work). Wilberforce was also heavily involved in the establish- ment of the RSPCA.
He was a man whose faith in God compelled him to respond to injustice and for him this meant action; ‘Surely the principles of Christianity lead to action as well as meditation.’ Prior to his encounter with Jesus early in his political career, he admitted that he was only self-serving. Knowing Christ opened his eyes and his heart and felt that God had called him to dedicate his life to see the end of slavery; ‘It is the true duty of every man to promote the happiness of his fellow creatures to the utmost of his power.’ He died shortly after the announcement that he had in fact achieved this goal.
Our desire at Marrara is that we provide quality Christian edu- cation – an education which considers the needs of the whole child. It is our hope that by being transformed inwardly our stu- dents can flourish in expressions of care for others and care of creation both now and in adulthood.

Mangroves
The atmosphere was gloomy and slow with the wind brushing against my face as I tried to organise my thoughts. The rattle of my tyres along the metal grid bridge echoed, a beating heart. The rag- ing storm in my mind going against the irreconcilable serenity of the world around me. I was riding through a familiar bike track in search for escape. Only, the mangroves were different, the tide had risen and now the water reflected the scenery against itself creating a symmetrical mirror effect of blues and all shades of green.
The depths of the glorious impression of the sight was enveloping me, the entire mood changed and the cold air couldn’t capture it any better. I thought it was the most beautiful thing in the world, until through the trees peered a light. As I approached the opening the sunset filled the sky with a deep red flame setting the clouds ablaze. The silence was overwhelmed with the sound of crashing waves, singing birds and the slight ruffle of the wild wheat that scaped the terrain approaching the dirt path. My mind was blank, refreshed, empty, a new page had been turned as I tried to capture every mo- ment of this escape – the blank page.

Funky Friday's
We have had such a great time seeing everyone’s efforts for Funky Friday’s. Thank you to everyone who participated and special thanks to parents for their efforts too!

Students participated in the annual Cross Country event this week. Whether running, jogging or walking, all the kids had fun and it was great to see our Primary, Middle and Senior students enjoying the great outdoors together.

Mad Scientists
Students in Year 3/4 loved impersonating ‘Mad Scientists’, conducting science experiments, observing changes and recording results. They presented exper- iments for their peers, answering questions about the process, results and fair testing.
CHRISSA SKANDALIARIS & MABLE NINAN | YEAR 3/4 TEACHERS

CHRIS GARNER | YEAR 8 HUMANITIES & SOCIAL SCIENCES
Middle Ages
Our Year 8s have been enjoying learning about The Middle Ages, going deep in their studies on the Fall of Rome, Feudalism, de- velopment of Castles, the Rise of Islam, as well as the Crusades. We have explored how modern Europe was influenced by trade with Asia and why the Bubonic Plague spread so rapidly and ulti- mately lead to many of the changes in society we have today. As part of our Head, Heart & Hands approach we have considered what life was like without rights, why history is taught with a focus on Europe and also how our current NT experience of COVID-19 has been so successful thanks to many of the discoveries from the 1400s!
We have had some marvellous creations happening as students have each chosen an artefact from the Middle Ages to research and recreate! From clothing to castles, weaponry to plague masks our students have put in a lot of time refining their craft to ensure some wonderful museum-worthy models!
We look forward to displaying these in the near future at Marrara on Show so here are just a few of them to enjoy for now.

Solar Ovens
REBEKKAH CRFAWFORD | YEAR 10 PCG
This term, Year 10 students have been exploring sustainable living as part of Pastoral Care Group. To apply their learning, students designed and built solar ovens. Thank you to Dominos Karama for donating pizza boxes!

Prefect Reflections
What a Crazy Term 2!
We began the term with having to postpone many of our events due to everything that was happening. Even though it was a slow start to the term, at about Week 5 we were finally being able to start up some of the events we had been planning all through Term 1. We have had a very pos- itive continuation of Shining Crowns, our lunchtime girls’ group for middle school, where we are able to mentor and build community in the school. We have also started up the boys’ lunch time group, which has been in high demand for a while.
We helped contribute ideas for Funky Friday’s and worked alongside our Chaplain, Lauren, to set up Student vs Teacher sports at lunch times.
Praying for everybody and hoping it is a very restful holiday
We are looking forward to sharing the exciting stuff we have planned for next term!
Blessings Your Captains
