REBECCA DIMMICK | HEAD OF SENIOR SCHOOL Celebrating Life
The last few weeks have certainly been a journey that has involved twists and turns. We are blessed as Christians that we know that we do not have to go through life on our own. As the psalmist says:
"I know the LORD is always with me. I will
not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety." Psalm 16:8-9
This knowledge helps us to look at the amazing aspects of life and celebrate all that it entails. As a part of our formational learning practices, we want to provide opportunities for students to take the time to celebrate life. We want them to 'stop and smell the roses.' By doing this, students are able to find connections, hope, and the motivation to keep learning.
This celebration can be difficult if we are going through difficult situations.
There is a Japanese tradition that actually reveals an important message about beauty in the brokenness. It is a method of fixing broken things using gold or other precious metals and is called the ‘kintsugi technique.' This method of repair often makes the broken object more valuable and precious after it has been fixed.
As we navigate life, it is important to look for the gold in the broken situation. It is important to look for opportunities to grow from the situation.
I read a poem the other day and found this thought provoking and inspiring:
“All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting.
All over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way. All over the world people are waking up to a new reality
To how big we really are.
To how little control we really have.
To what really matters.
To Love."
Br. Richard Hendrick, OFM
Can I encourage you to take the time to celebrate life? Look for the gold in circumstances and find ways to care for each other. We have a big God who loves us intimately – how can we not find joy in that?

Our Anzac Day Commemoration
Anzac Day was remembered a little differently this year. Many families gathered at the end of their driveways with candles at 6 am to take part in the nation-wide remembering of our service men and women, especially those who never
came home. At school, our Anzac assembly looked a little different this
year as well, with each class participating in the Anzac Assembly over Zoom. We looked at the words that came out of the Anzac spirit such as courage, endurance, determination, mateship and sacrifice. We recognised that as much as we have sought peace after each war, we still have not found the peace we
all long for. This is where we remember with a renewed
hope; that hope is found in Jesus, the Prince of Peace who demonstrated these characteristics and more when he
endured the cross and gave up his life so that we could
live. He is our ultimate example of courage, endurance,
love and sacrifice. We are blessed to live in a country of freedom and we give thanks for those who have sacrificed so much so that we can live in this beautiful land.
The students listened to stories, stood at the Last Post, paused for the minute
of silence and reveille and participated in activities such as making poppies and reading the Ode of Remembrance.
Lest We Forget.

Year 7 Science
With disruptions to the last few weeks of Term 1, it was great to have the students back in the Lab showing off their practical skills and using the scientific words they had learnt. The planning, conducting and reporting on this task are a fantastic way to see how much progress students are making in their study of Science.
Well done 7M and 7C, you are scientists. Stay Curious. Jill Williams | Middle School Science Teacher

Lest We Forget
At our assembly we reflected on both the sacrifice of our original ANZACs and those on the frontline today. As we explored what it means to be willing to lay down our lives to live in service of others we also considered the love that Jesus has for us and His willingness to fight for us. We rose a hallelujah to the God who loves us and delights in us.
As the assembly progressed students coloured in Poppies and we created a wreath that is currently residing in the SSC. This is to remind us of those we love and those who have gone before us.
