Here are a few of the responses to the following questions in the Years of Service Survey: What is a professional accomplishment you would like to share (individual or as a department)? What has inspired you to work as a student services staff member of HCS? 2022-2023 School Year Student Support Services Years of Service Page 3 Amy Crockett Central Office Student Support Services Coordinator 2022-23 marks my 30th year in education. The student services team as a whole. This team is dedicated to our students, schools, and community. I am excited about the potential we have to continue to make a positive impact as we face the on-going as well as new challenges in education today. Suzanne Wood THS School Nurse As a school nurse in just one school this year, the students have actually gotten to know me and I have gotten to know them. I have been able to help so much more than briefly. Students that come to me with a medical issue from very simple to complex are able to come back to me to follow up and and show me that finger that was crushed with the weights in weight lifting and show me that I was right, the nail is broken and is growing out just like I said it would. I have enjoyed getting to know this wonderful group of kids. Yes, even my frequent flyers. They know my rules and how long I will let them visit. Love nursing and this age group (High School) kids need more that anyone realizes because so often they are not getting as much medical care as they did when they were younger. Kristi Millican HCMS School Counselor As a team, our HCMS Student Services Department works exceptionally well together. Our strong relationships are evident both in our professional and personal lives. We are truly a family with shared values and commitments. Continuing to form relationships with students. Being able to build positive and productive relationships with students, families, and staff. The needs of our students and seeing their growth and successes. Lesley Hamby HCMS Success Coach Being able to provide that extra layer of support for students who genuinely need it to be able to meet their high school graduation goals and working together as a team to assist these students. Seeing their faces light up when they realize that there is hope is such a rewarding experience. We have a great wealth of experience and expertise as a whole when we look at our student support services in Harnett County and it is inspiring to be a part of this team. Supporting students in meeting their academic and personal goals is what we do best and I am grateful to be given the opportunity to do what is near and dear to my heart each and every day! Christina Nye LSES School Counselor Getting to know the first names of the majority of our students and finding the ‘family’ connections/relationships. Enjoy working with and supporting the students, staff and families at LSES Janet Johnson Central Office Lead Nurse I am very proud of how my team of nurses has grown over the years. Being able to hire LPNs and SHTs has been a huge benefit to our school health program. The amount of dedications from my school health teas as we navigated Covid was humbling. I am not sure we have all recovered from the stress of the pandemic, but we are working on it! Prior to becoming a school nurse, I worked in my community doing home health visits for 13 years. Sadly many of my cases were abused and neglected children. I believe that was the beginning of my passion to support the children in my community on a larger scale. Tracey Carlson BTES School Counselor I have completed the NBCT process. I feel like it was very beneficial to my school counseling program and helped me grow as a counselor. I went to school to be a school counselor so I knew I wanted to help children but I did not know what that really looked like until I began working in the schools. I continue to come to school each day because I love the opportunities I get to talk with students and their families.
Here are some of the responses to the following questions in the Years of Service Survey: What is a professional accomplishment you would like to share (individual or as a department)? What has inspired you to work as a student services staff member of HCS? Page 4 Shannon Bradley WHMS School Counselor I recently completed the qualifications through Starr Commonwealth to be a Certified Trauma and Resilience Practitioner and will become a Certified Trauma and Resilience Trainer in the Fall. I have always loved kids and knew from a very young age that I wanted to work with them in some capacity. I didn't think that I would be a very good teacher, but working with students in small groups and individually on their social, emotional, and academic goals was something that I could help them with. I love my role as a School Counselor! Cindy Delgado WHMS Success Coach I was the first school social worker back in 1994. I worked with Jane Schuman to get the foundation built for the social work program in Harnett County. My focus has always been advocating for others and to give them a voice. I am a product of Harnett County Schools and it means a lot to me to work with the school system I grew up in. Grace Rooney OHS School Counselor Kicking off our "RISE to your future Fridays" with Mrs. Holt. Meeting with our seniors to go help with any post-secondary support they may need. Our FAFSA numbers have increased by over 3% since last school year! Brianne Sellers CES School Counselor Made it! :) Held multiple groups with students (more than last year). Continued building positive rapport with students My love for kids and having a safe place for our students to come to and vent or release the tension built up from trauma or frustrations with school, friends, home, and etc. Love what I do! Jessalyn Pedone AES Mental Health Support Team My social work award! The difference our Student services department is making in the lives of students throughout the county! We are bridging gaps in services and supports to ensure students needs are met. Audrey Swann WHMS School Nurse I was inspired to work with student services, because I love helping others. I strive to keep the students healthy and provide service with a smile. Jamie Morrison CES School Counselor National Board Certification 2017 and Maintenance of Certification 2022. I enjoy working in the community in which I live, and I work in the best school around. My driving force for remaining in the profession of school counseling is the relationship-building that takes place between students and me each year. I love watching them grow and develop. They inspire me to be better and make a difference. Elsa Clayton CEMS School Social Worker Still making a difference in the lives of children. SW is a calling to me not just a job. I was working for as a Social Services SW, for 6 years. I often worked with School SW and saw the long lasting, positive impacts they made with children. I decided I wanted to do be a part of it. I applied, got hired and here I still am. Maria Bristow OES School Counselor We started Student Council for the 4th and 5th graders at our school. I love working with students but I wanted to help more than the students that were in my classroom. I decided to become a school counselor so I could help all the students and get to know them. Nancy Powning Central Office Heath Services Specialist (Forensics) Will have completed Penn State University Undergrad Nursing Forensics Specialty in August 2023 and will sit for the Board Certification for General Forensic Nurse through the International Association of Forensic Nurses in October 2023. 2022-2023 School Year Student Support Services Years of Service
