The 5 Stages Of Grief

A short story on "The 5 Stages Of Grief"

The 5 Stages Of Grief

A Children's Book By Zain H. Marshall

This is Little Greg.

Little Greg is playing at the park right now

Little Greg likes the park.

Little Greg wants to visit his grandpa today!

He should go ask his parents for permission.

But when he asked if they
could go…

His dad had some bad news…

I’m sorry buddy , but grandpa
died, remember?

Said his dad

But Little Greg didn’t understand.

That’s okay! We can just see
him when he’s done.

[ Phase One: Denial ]

Gregory, I’m sorry but that’s his dad said
not how death works
When someone dies,
they don’t come back

But he still didn’t understand.

When someone dies it means
we can’t see them, ever again.

And then it finally clicked…

THAT’S NOT FAIR!!!
I WANNA SEE GRANDPA!!!

[ Phase Two: Anger ]

Now Gregory-

But he still didn’t understand.

I WANT HIM BACK I WANT HIM
BACK I WANT HIM BAAACK!!!!!

But he still didn’t understand.

THIS ISN’T FAIR!!!!

But he still didn’t understand.

THIS ISN’T FAIR!!!!

ENOUGH!!!

Please… just one more day, I just
want to see him one more time.

[ Phase Three: Bargaining ]

I’ll give you all of my toys… just
one more time… please…

Gregory, you know that’s not
possible. I want to see him again
too, but it's just not possible.

Why did he have to die?
[ Phase Four: Depression ]

I don’t know son, I don’t know.

But it’s okay, we’ll get
through this together, right?

But it’s okay, we’ll get
through this together, right?

Yeah, yeah we will.
[ Phase Five: Acceptance. ]

~ The End ~

Authors Note

Thank you so much for reading my story, and a huge thank you for
sesame street’s ”Talking About Uncle Jack” for (Heavily) inspiring this
story. In the story, Greg breaks down relatively fast and shifts
between emotions on a dime, this was based off of my memories
from when I lost a loved one about 8 years ago. I was able to work
through the pain and carry on with my life with the help of my parents,
as we all shared a strong bond with the loved one. Greg and his dad
are alluded share something similar in the ending. While loss is
devastating, everyone can learn to work though it in the end.
