to the second wave, which was four times more aggres-

Secondly, we should learn to create infrastructure
very quickly and not dismantle it soon afterwards. We
should take the help of the Indian Army and learn from
them how we can make rapidly deployable hospitals with
ICUs, especially in rural areas and smaller towns. We will
also need to mobilise additional healthcare workers to
run these hospitals. India adds nearly 75,000 to 80,000
doctors a year and we hear that additionally, final year
medical students and interns are being trained to take on
Covid duties. Also, additional healthcare workers should
be mobilized and incentivized to work in Covid wards.
Many such recommendations have been submitted and

With the advent of more technolo-

have grown too. How has MeitY
dealt with these challenges?
Security of digital platforms is of
prime importance and it should be
considered even while conceptualiz-

confined to a single level but needs
to be addressed at business (defining
security policies), infrastructure (ap-
propriate configurations at network,
data centre, and hardware), appli-
cation (application deployment, OS
hardening) and data (storage, access)
levels.

It is least costly and most effective

on how it will affect the change on account
of technology, digitisation and customer
experience.

Especially in the engineering sector and
almost all sectors, we are heavily depend-
ant on China for components and ingre-
dients. Has in any way China’s role as a
part of the supply chain come down or
will you see that coming down in the next
few years?
In our view, again, China has been a factory
to the world almost for 25 years now; and
China used scale advantage to offer prod-
ucts and at very competitive rates. The fact
is it led to productive gains or deflationary
kind of impact and made a lot of industry
uncompetitive.

Will it continue, is it here to stay, and
should we look at China plus one as a strat-
egy? The answer is yes. (China Plus One is
the business strategy to avoid investing only
in China and diversify business into other
countries.) Quite a lot of global corporations
are doing that right now. Everyone is work-
ing on a China plus one plan - however, I am
not saying China will become zero. Because,
you are dependant on China for some criti-
cal components at a favourable cost struc-
ture and advantage. The second is China
has invested a lot of money in logistics, sup-
ply chain, which a lot of us at this side of the
world is yet to do or adapt. Hence, a need to
invest in the back-end.

So, how much have you invested in digitisation onto your What should the policy-makers do so that

gas as a source of fuel, the move to make
more renewable energy, etc. The fact that they have agreed
to privatise a lot of ports and airports infrastructure is a good
move. On the farm rules, the agri-framework though is met
with a lot of challenges, but in our view, it is a positive move
if implemented correctly. The policy framework on supply
water to all houses is a phenomenal policy. So, if they were to
implement, the industry will be investing since the industry
is beneficiary of this policyframework.
