การบอกเวลาในภาษาองั กฤษสามารถพูดไดห้ ลายแบบ มีทง้ั แบบไมเ่ ป็นทางการ และแบบ

ทางการ แบบ British English และแบบ American English บางคนอาจสับสนเวลาทีไ่ ด้ฟัง

เพราะบางประโยคอาจจะไม่ไดบ้ อกเปน็ ตัวเลขตรงๆ

ประโยคทใ่ี ชก้ นั ท่วั ๆ ไปเลยก็คอื “What time is it?” แปลว่า “กโี่ มงแล้ว” นอกจากนี้ยังมี

- What’s the time? กโ่ี มงแลว้

- Do you know what time it is? ขอโทษนะคะ ทราบไหมคะวา่ ก่โี มงแล้ว

- Do you have the time? ก่ีโมงแล้ว

- Do you happen to have the time? ทราบไหมคะว่าก่โี มงแล้ว

- Have you got the time? ก่โี มงแลว้ คะ

- Could you tell me the time? ขอโทษนะคะ กโ่ี มงแลว้ คะ

การบอกเวลาแบบแรกเปน็ แบบ British English คะ่ คอื การบอกเวลาทใ่ี ชค้ าว่า “o’clock”
ใชส้ าหรบั บอกเวลาทเ่ี ตม็ ชวั่ โมงตรงเป๊ะไมม่ เี ศษนาที เชน่

- It’s 6 o’clock. หกโมงตรง
- It’s 10 o’clock. สบิ โมงตรง

วิธีท่ีบอกเวลาแบบ “o’clock” น้ี จะใชไ้ ด้ตั้งแตเ่ ลข 1-12 เทา่ นน้ั ถ้าเปน็ เวลา 13.00 น. เรา

จะไมใ่ ชค้ าวา่ “13 o’clock” แตจ่ ะใช้ “1 o’clock” ถา้ เราไมต่ อ้ งการให้สับสนกับเวลาตีหนึ่ง เราจะ

ใชว้ ลีเขา้ มาชว่ ยขยายความ ซ่งึ กค็ อื “in the afternoon” ถ้าเปน็ ตอนเช้า เราจะใช้คาว่า

“in the morning” ตอนเย็นใช้คาวา่ “in the evening” ถ้าเปน็ ตอนกลางคืนจะใชค้ าว่า

“at night” (ไม่ใช่ in the night) ตัวอยา่ งเช่น

ใช้บอกเวลาอย่างไม่เป็นทางการ โดยมีหลกั การใช้ดังนี้

“past” ใชก้ บั เวลาทเี่ ศษนาทยี ังไม่ถงึ 30 นาที หลกั การใช้ คอื บอกจานวน
