Chapter

We have reached the fourth, 2
and final edition of my magazine series.

The journey has been amazing. I have received so much
feedback on how the previous three editions have inspired &
motivated them to push on, to strive for the better, and to
excel in life. I hope that this edition will do its predecessors
justice as well, and may it be an inspiration to every reader
who has taken their time to read my musings.

As a mother of 2, a COT qualifier, and now an Agency
Leader, I feel that I am extremely blessed. I have a visionary
mentor whom I respect tremendously, a dynamic team of
Financial Consultants that I am proud to lead, wonderful
customers and friends who are always supportive of me,
and two lovely children that make all my sacrifices and
efforts worthwhile.

For this final edition, I will be talking about my journey and
experience as an Agency Leader, as well as my thoughts of
nurturing the next generation of leaders. I am a strong
believer of empowering others to unleash their full potential,
and my current position as an Agency Leader allows me to
do just that, which I am very grateful for.

To my mentors, beloved JaslyNGroup team, my friends,
customers, followers on social media, and last but not least,
my children, I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my
heart for your never-ending support, trust, and
encouragement for me. I promise not to disappoint and
continue to work towards building potential leaders and
protective lives.

It’s not so much on whether I have the
capability to perform at the highest
level. Prior to joining this industry, I had
prior experience leading teams in
corporate HR; this meant that I already
had the experience of making executive
decisions and performing under
pressure. What I was concerned about
was whether I am able to LEAD BY
EXAMPLE. Although the typical
definition of leading is to take charge
and guide others to move forward, I
believe it first starts with Learning.

For me, a leader is more than just a title or position; it revolves around
impacting others with your words, actions, and attitude. It’s about setting a

good example and being an inspiration for others to emulate.

“As a leader, I want to lead as how I was led, to
inspire as how I was inspired, and to nurture the
future generation of FCs to the best of my abilities.”

Leadership ValuesEmulating and Applying 8

I learnt so much about leading by example from
Jaden, and I applied his leadership methods
when I eventually began to lead my own team,
JaslyNGroup. As a leader, I had the responsibility
of guiding and assisting my team to unleash their
full potential. I want to lead as how I was led, to
inspire as how I was inspired, and to nurture the

9future generation of FCs to the best of my

abilities.

Similar to what Jaden did to me, I too attended
my junior FC’s appointments, gave constructive
feedback on how to improve, organised
one-to-ones, group workshops, etc. These
sessions were not only beneficial for my team
members, I also benefitted from knowing the
strengths and weaknesses of each of my team
members. This allowed me to personalize my
approach and to guide each of them differently.
Of course, this also enabled me to grow closer
with them, not only just as a leader, but also as a
colleague and friend.

LeaderActing like a

Apart from my duties and responsibilities as an Agency Leader, I
still had to service my existing clients and consult new prospects
as well. This is where the next aspect of leadership comes into
play – setting an example through my actions. As a leader, people
look up to me and aspire to learn from me. This gives me even
more reason to push myself harder so that I will not let myself and

9 the people around me down.
I continued my daily routine of waking up and starting my day at
5am. Being consistent and practising what you preach are
important as a leader. You cannot ask others to do this and that if
you yourself are not doing it yourself. Which is why I attended
enrichment workshops, talks, and seminars to continuously
improve myself. I read enrichment books and articles, as well as
listen to podcasts whenever I can to continuously enhance my
knowledge.

“Being consistent and practising what you
preach is important as a leader. You cannot ask
others to do this and that if you yourself are not
doing it yourself.”

I do all this because I want to set an example through my actions. I do not want
to be a NATO (No Action, Talk Only) leader; I want to walk the talk and lead
through my actions.

“One of the best things about being a leader, to me,
is having the ability to cultivate new up-and-coming
leaders, who will eventually lead others.”

New LeadersDriving and Cultivating 12

One of the best things about being a leader, to
me, is having the ability to cultivate new
up-and-coming leaders, who will eventually lead
others. In my humble opinion, nurturing new
blood to take the reins is quintessential for a
person, team, and company to continue growing
and excelling.

I do this by requiring my team members to lead
discussions and organise their own workshops
and training sessions. By doing this, they will
learn important leadership values such as
determination, time management, communication
skills, handling pressure, and many more – which
will serve them well as future leaders and also as
members of the community. I do not expect them
to be perfect, but I expect them to give their
best shot.

Therefore, I encourage all current leaders to
always nurture the people who are under them.
Work towards unleashing their full potential,
focus on improving their skills, and to grow them
as potential leadership material.

Benefits of

L.E.A.D.ERSHIP

One of my proudest achievements as a
leader thus far is when I came in 2nd for the
Top Rookie Manager Award 2019. This is a
monumental achievement for me and my
team because we managed to achieve it
with a small and nimble team (the

13 first-place winner’s team was almost
double our size!) It was a result of a
cumulative effort of the entire team, but I
also believe that leadership also played a
contributing role as well.

As the leader of the team, I strived to
continue motivating my Financial
Consultants. Between my time as a mother
of two and servicing my own clients, I
made sure to always be there for my team
whenever I can. And my efforts paid off in
several ways:
