It may be that some of
you review this mes-
sage this year, some not at
all, some in a week, but it may
be that you read this again 10
years or 15 years down the road. As
the principal of the school, my rst
thought and hope is that none of the
boys, now men, have a hair cut like mine
at that later date. I have attached a picture
of me in Grade 12 just to prove there was hair
there at one time. Secondly, let me share some
thoughts with all of you.
As the year ends and a new chapter is started by
many of you I would share with you all, some of my
thoughts, drivers that have been important to me.
Hard Work and Balance
Work hard at all you do. While there is an expression that hard
work never killed anyone, that may not be all that true. Sure, get
balance, do not wait for someone to nd that for you, you need to
nd balance in life, in order to work hard and sustain that work over
time. But I truly believe that working hard is important. You can only
work hard and make a di erence with balance and wellness in your life. My
grandfather was a quadriplegic, and bound to a wheelchair for life in his late
20’s, but I always remember my father lecturing me on how hard he worked.
A major impairment like loss of mobility did not impede that work ethic. Work
hard: it pays o .
Family
Never forget and never, ever give up on family. Sadly, they do not last forever so be aware of
that. I have always from the time I could recall and process thought, I have always felt a sense
of family and supported that sense in all I do. At times this in halted by di erences of opinion,
but family is so important. A call to grandmother, spending time with your brother or mother are
critical. Please never forget this, even if you have for a while. Never give up on family.
Dedication and Commitment
Dedication and commitment are traits that are important. I think, often, people make quick decisions that
should be thought out. If you make a wrong decision, or a quick decision, admit it and move on; you do not
need to be committed to that, that is called stubbornness. But commitment takes work, patience, a willingness
to be exible and the ability to listen to other. Adding commitment and dedication to all you do will make a dif-
ference to yourself and others around you.
Make a Di erence
You can complete tasks, you can do work but try adding always doing the extra. Often that is thanks at a restaurant,
helping someone when you are tired or going the extra mile for someone. is yearbook is an example of that. Rather
than just putting a book together, from sta to students, both in print and design to photography, this book is a re ec-
