FOREWORD
PENGARAH,
BAHAGIAN PERANCANGAN DAN PENYELIDIKAN DASAR PENDIDIKAN
DIRECTOR,
EDUCATIONAL PLANNING AND RESEARCH DIVISION
Bahagian Perancangan dan Penyelidikan Dasar Pendidikan (BPPDP) menghasilkan Buku Perangkaan Pendidikan Malaysia (BPPM) setiap tahun
bagi membekalkan data pendidikan yang terkini, tepat dan sahih. Maklumat pendidikan dalam BPPM menjadi input yang penting dalam proses
penggubalan dasar, penyediaan perancangan, pembuatan keputusan, penilaian dan pemantauan program pendidikan negara. BPPM ini juga dapat
memberi gambaran kuantitatif yang lebih jelas terhadap status dan perkembangan sistem pendidikan di Malaysia.
BPPM 2016 mengandungi data dan statistik pendidikan yang merangkumi maklumat enrolmen, sekolah, guru, perbelanjaan pendidikan, pendidikan
tertiari dan maklumat asas pendidikan agensi lain seperti sekolah swasta, Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM), Sekolah Agama Negeri dan Sekolah
Agama Rakyat. Pada tahun ini, terdapat penambahbaikan dalam BPPM iaitu penambahan data enrolmen dan guru bagi Sekolah Tahfiz Swasta,
Sekolah Pondok dan Sekolah Henry Gurney. Ini menunjukkan BPPDP sentiasa komited dalam meningkatkan cakupan data pendidikan. Pada masa
yang sama, kualiti data pendidikan juga ditambah baik melalui pengumpulan data yang lebih terperinci bagi membolehkan analisis data pendidikan
yang lebih komprehensif dijalankan. Sehubungan dengan itu, dasar, penyelidikan dan pembuatan keputusan adalah berasaskan maklumat statistik
yang kukuh.
Pada kesempatan ini, saya ingin mengucapkan setinggi-setinggi penghargaan dan tahniah kepada semua pihak yang terlibat dalam menjayakan
penerbitan buku ini terutamanya pegawai BPPDP, bahagian Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia dan agensi lain. Semoga usaha berterusan BPPDP
menerbitkan BPPM ini menjadi panduan dan rujukan khususnya kepada perancang, penyelidik dan pendidik serta individu secara amnya.
Educational Planning and Research Division (EPRD) produces The Malaysia Educational Statistics (MES) each year to provide current, accurate and
reliable educational data. Educational data in the MES is essential in providing input for policy formulation, educational planning, decision making, as
well as evaluation and monitoring processes of the national education programmes. The MES is also capable of showing a quantitative overview on
the status and development of education system in Malaysia.
The MES 2016 contains educational data and statistics that include information on enrolment, schools, teachers, education expenses, tertiary education
and basic education information of other agencies such as private schools, Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM), State Religious Schools and People
Religious Schools. EPRD has successfully improved MES 2016 by including information on enrolment and teachers for Private Tahfiz Schools, Pondok
Schools and Henry Gurney Schools. This shows that EPRD is always committed to improving the coverage of data collection. At the same time, data
quality is also enhanced with a disaggregated data collection to enable a more comprehensive analysis of the educational data. Therefore, policy,
research and decision making are informed by the sound statistical information.
Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to those involved in the production of this publication especially officers from EPRD, various divisions in
Ministry of Education and other agencies. I hope, continuous efforts by EPRD in publishing the MES would serve as a guide and reference to planners,
researchers and educators as well as the general public.
