Every once in a while human race faces challenges that
test its authority as the dominant race in the planet.
Covid-19 has been no different. Faced with an unseen and
unheard enemy, it brought the human world together at
their resilient best in every aspect of life.
Primarily, the education system went through a transformation from
classroom to virtual platform. Having enrolled as a business student in
Ashok Hall Girls’ Residential School, the joy of hostel life could not last
longer than a couple of months. I was not even well socialized in my new
environment when I had to carry my backpack back to home. Back there, I
was fortunate enough to participate in various ECAs and CCAs which now
is just a beautiful part of my memory.
I have seen trees growing out of cracks in the rocks. Similar is the case
when it comes to the process of learning. The teaching and learning
activities never seem to halt. Distant learning through Google Meet has
made it possible to acquire invaluable knowledge imparted by our esteemed
teachers.
Things are getting better every day with the second dose of vaccine and
fingers are crossed for a new normal world where we would learn to live
boundary-less. Once the COVID curve is flat, I hope to hop back to school
and bring back memories I long for.
ASHOK HALL GIRLS' RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL -Vaishnavi Goyenka
Every year the Founder’s Day celebration is a much
coveted event for all the hallites. It includes an
array of activities in which students participate
heartily. However, this year Abhyudaya was
celebrated with a twist. Although the pandemic has
restricted all of us to our homes, it could not daunt
our spirit of celebration and deter us from making
Abhyudaya a grand success.
Abhyudaya 2021 was all about nostalgia and a promise from all the hallites that
though far from the alma mater, the values and ethos instilled by it can never fade
away. The event was compered by Laamiha Khan and Shubhangi Kandpal. The
presentation included snippets of every aspect of boarding life including, dance, music,
art, gardening, photograhy which made the event colourful and lively. The students
participated zealously and came up with videos that kept us glued to the event.
A fabulously merged video of everyone’s efforts was floated on June 06, at 3:00 pm.
The performance given by the teachers and support staff added feathers to the
programme.
To sum up, it can be said that Abhyudaya was celebrated with all its splendour and its
memories will be cherished for long.

Celebrations and festivities are an integral part of every hallite.
March is the month of joy and happiness of limitless colours. This
year the festival of Holi was celebrated on 29 March. But due to the
ongoing pandemic the celebrations were a bit different. Keeping in
mind the COVID-19 guidelines, playing with colours was not allowed
but Hallites left no stones unturned to make the day a memorable
one. In the morning after breakfast at 10:30 am students and
teachers were engrossed in the fun-filled game of Tambola until the
lunch time. The evening was decorated with lively cultural dance
performances by the dancers of Ashok Hall. The event was followed
by a DJ where Hallites dance to their hearts’ content. The mouth-
watering feast added delicious flavour to the celebration. Tasty
‘gujhiya’ and ‘thandai’ were among the best delicacies

physical world, based on facts that you can prove.
To make students confident in science stream numerous competitions are held at
Ashok Hall Girls’ Residential School, Majkhali.
This year science quiz was held on April 4, 2021 based on the theme of preventive
measures against the covis-19. This event was conducted by classes IX-XII and
all the three houses enthusiastically participated in the event.

“Speech has power. Words do not fade. What starts out as a sound, ends in a deed.”
-Abraham Joshua Heschel
Over the years, Ashok Hall Girls' Residential School has hosted speech competitions
through which the students have been able to sharpen their skills of public speaking.
Continuing the practice, even when life is restricted to the internet, an Inter-house
English Speech Presentation for Seniors (Classes IX to XII) was held on 26th June, 2021.
To make it more interesting, the topics for the presentation, which included “Over and
Improper Use of Natural Resources”, “Impacts of Globalization” and “Social Impacts of
Covid-19”, were centered around the present issues the world is facing. Two participants
from each house had to submit a pre-recorded video speaking on any of the given three
topics for a maximum of four minutes. While all the participants made sure to extend
their research and come up with a gripping presentation, the winners were as follows:
Shubhangi Kandpal of Class X from Red House bagged the first position followed by
Disha Lohani of Class XI from Yellow House and Mahika Khandelwal of Class X from
Green House, respectively.
ASHOK HALL GIRLS' RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL Inter-House English Poetry
Elocution
-Dhatri Gupta, XII
Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful form. To build up the
confidence of poetry recitation in students, an Inter – House English Poetry
Elocution Competition was organized on 03 April, 2021. It helped the students in
improving their vocabulary and intonation. The theme of the poetry recitation
competition was ‘Humour’. The competition was conducted for the Junior Wing
from classes VI to VIII. Each of the three houses, Green, Red and Yellow were
allowed to send only two students to represent them. The event was hosted by
Lavanya Mahara and Abhilasha Negi of class XII. The first position was
secured by Anusha Dubey of class VIII from Yellow House. The second position
was achieved by Laamiha Fatima Khan of class VI from Green House and the
third position was bagged by Malvika Mahara of class VI from Red House.
Overall, Green House stood first followed by Yellow House and Red House.
Although winning and losing are part of every competition, the endeavor of each
house member was clearly evident. Each house left no stone unturned to make
this competition a huge success. All the poems were very hilarious. It was indeed
a tough competition!

ASHOK HALL GIRLS' RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL Teenage
-Shubhangi Kandpal, X
When you turn fourteen, you are pumped to start high school, ready to learn new things, make
great friends and start afresh. There is a split change in your ideas and personality and well,
mostly everything. While the memories of the past should give you nostalgia, you instead cringe
at every single thing you did back then.
By the time you are fifteen you are tired of seeing other people of your age enjoying their life,
getting to have new experiences while you are stuck in whatever god awful situation you think
you are in. Suddenly there is more to your body than you had noticed before, mostly things that
you don’t want to look in the mirror everyday. Mates that were close before start changing and
you think maybe you are the one that can’t seem to be grasping onto things. You lose friends and
trying to make new ones is exhausting.
Everything you think you were interested in starts to appear insignificant when compared to
what others aspire to do. So much of life starts to be about maintaining your grades, keeping up
an image in the school, not be a ‘loser’ and instead be one of the ‘cool kid’. At the same time, you
have to keep up with everything that’s going on in the world because you should be an individual
with strong opinions, a student with a bright future and a child that stands up to their parents’
expectations.
Amidst all this chaos, one day you sit down with a classmate and they tell you that they too feel
lost and miserable most of the time. You search on quora for ‘tips for teenagers’ and you realize
what seems to be very important today might not be this significant tomorrow.
So you slow down. There’s a long road ahead, most of it foggy and unclear but you have today.
You have your two and only best friends that back you always, your parents that may not
always understand you but try anyways, your beloved notes app and most importantly you have
yourself, trying every day to just keep going.
Voodoo Doll
-Jigyasa Singhal, IX
Voodoo doll is the one, whom we are scared of . Cuts are there on its face .
To scare a child, it is an option at the top . But elders know it is fake .
Every child gets scared , Some say its superstitious .
None of them is ever spared . But elders know it’s fictitious.
Made of cloth ,thread and buttons . People say it is used for black magic.
And it is always filled with cotton . But it’s all a part of dramatics
ASHOK HALL GIRLS' RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL The Night Stayed Quiet
-Simran Agarwal, X
No one heard her
She was screaming at the highest pitch
But still silence choked all around her
Her wounded soul
The snoring suffocated her
She ran off to seek help
But no even felt if she yelled
A shiny grey blanket above calmed her down
All the anger she stored within her was able to destroy the whole town.
For the sake of her children
She cried and let it out
But the night stayed still quiet
No one heard her
As she was taught “ to be silent “
And giving up was not allowed.
Jealousy
-Ananya Agarwal, X
Jealousy is, Instead of being jealous be happy by someone’s success.
The thing which keeps you away from doing good, Whenever you see the black-dusty smoke,
The thing which hides your talent, Which is jealous of those white-clouds.
The thing which makes you apprehensive, The white clouds,
The thing which makes you uncourageous,
The thing which makes you sorrowful, Which is jealous of the bright-twinkling stars.
The thing which gives you agony, The stars,
The thing which makes you impatient,
The thing which stops you to think, Which is jealous of the shining moon.
The thing which makes you frail, The moon,
The thing which makes you upset,
SO…….PLEASE….!!!! Which is jealous of the hot cool sun.
DON’T BE JEALOUS OF ANYONE!!!! You see them like that
BUT! They are not!!!!They are helpful to each other!!
Be like them……Don’t be jealous!!
Once you stop being jealous,
You will start being happy.
ASHOK HALL GIRLS' RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL Tomorrow never Comes
-Anshika Pandey, VIII
A girl purchased a book. At first she read 3 pages, then 5, then 10 and then she
thought,” Rest of the novel I will read tomorrow. Days went by, nights went by and
she didn’t even touch the book! She almost forgot that she had a book that she was
reading. It was the phase of the pandemic, so the timings for the classes were
delayed and moreover, at home we are not that punctual. The night before her first
day of online classes she set an alarm and said to herself that she will wake up at
6:00 a.m. The alarm rang but she snoozed it to 8:00 a.m. and her classes were to
start at 8:30 a.m. At first she got ready in 30 minutes which apparently saved
her. But the thing is, she broke her promise. Days passed, and she never woke up at
the right time. Exams were about to begin soon. Yet again she promised herself
that she will study tomorrow but that tomorrow never came. One night prior to her
exam she studied really hard but as I guessed she didn’t get good marks. What else
can happen?
The right time to start anything is now. So what are you waiting for? Always
remember “Tomorrow never comes.”
Holding You Back
-Anvesha Dubey, XI
Time flies soon, How I wish I could come with you,
But I hope never to be wound each time in problem I would hold you
Things change fast, and hug you,
But I hope all my special bonds last How I always become a child when I
Nothing stays forever am with you, seeing me in every mood
Though I know is only you,
But I still hope Sometimes like a mother, like a friend
To hold you back, sitting beside, and sister is you
and sharing matters keeping us And how badly I wish I could fly with
packed you.
