IIUM STUDENT UNION
A NEW NARRATIVE OF STUDENT ACTIVISM

The UUCA was tightened to curtail student activism following the
Baling incident in December 1974 where thousands of university
students of all races gathered in Baling, Kedah, to show solidarity
with rubber tappers struggling to earn a living after the decline of
rubber prices. This later led to the death of students’ union in the
campuses to be replaced by the so-called Students’ Representative
Council (SRC) (Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Prof Dzulkifli Abd Razak,
IIUM Rector)
Buku ini istimewa kerana ia ditulis oleh kombinasi di antara
pentadbir universiti dengan pemimpin mahasiswa yang
mempunyai pengalaman teoritikal dan praktikal dalam dunia
aktivisme mahasiswa. Ia bukan hanya membincangkan soal
struktural tetapi memberikan roh dan falsafah sebenarnya kepada
keperluan kewujudan Kesatuan Pelajar yang berpaksikan
kebebasan akademik dan penghakupayaan kepimpinan mahasiswa.
