A legendary K-drama land romance is coming true in real
life!
It has now been announced that Korea’s dream
couple Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo will be getting
married in October.

The agencies of the two co-stars of 2016 hit drama
“Descendants of the Sun,” Blossom Entertainment and
United Artists Agency (UAA), have issued a joint statement
on July 5.

It reads as follows:

“Hello. This is Blossom Entertainment and UAA.

“First of all, we give our thanks to the Korean and
international fans who have shown a lot of interest in and
love for Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo. Also, we ask for
your understanding as we convey this surprising news.

“Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo will be holding a
wedding ceremony on the final day of October, 2017.

A marriage is not only a private matter but also a meeting
between two families, so it was a delicate situation in many
ways.

There was no choice but to be cautious prior to marriage,
and so we are at last conveying this message. We ask for
everyone’s understanding.

We ask for you to send the couple best wishes for their
beautiful future together, and the two actors will be
conveying the news to their fans separately. Thank you.”

Along with their surprising wedding announcement, Song
Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have each written a letter to
fans explaining their decision and asking for blessings.

Song Joong Ki's letter to his fan club, as translated:

"I met a drama project that made me shine and was an
honor to me, and I made a precious friend who spent that
happy time with me. We confirmed our sincere feelings for
each other and became a couple who loved each other.

At the beginning of 2017, we made a promise to each
other to spend the rest of our lives together. We'll fill what
we each lack with love, and we'll live a new life where we
can face difficulties together. I plan to marry Song Hye Kyo
at the end of October, 2017.

I wanted to let you all know of my sincere intentions earlier,
but it's not something I can decide on my own. My family's
opinions are also all precious, and it was a situation where I
had to think carefully and discretely. I had an upcoming
movie that involved many people's passion and efforts,
and as an actor, I didn't want my personal life to negatively
affect the film crew and staff. In the future, I'll live as a cool
actor and stable head of a family.

Please cheer on our good destiny. Thank you."

Song Hye Kyo's letter to her fan club, as translated:

“I think many of you would’ve been surprised by the
sudden news. It may appear as if I lacked consideration for
my fans, but I hope you will understand [my intentions].

At first, Joong Ki was a colleague who clicked well with me.
As we worked on a production together, we discovered
that we had similar values and we could really talk about
anything. Because he was a good friend and colleague,
we continued to keep in touch even after the [drama]
ended.

Over time, the faith and trust that Joong Ki had shown me a
future with him. I was thankful that he had such genuine
feelings for me, and I was also able to confirm my own
feelings for him.

“I wanted to relay the engagement news to my fans first,
but I had to be careful because it wasn’t only my decision.
I feel nervous announcing the news all of a sudden, but I
trust that my fans will support me. Please continue to love
me like you have until now. Thank you for waiting and

Acquaintances Describe How
Their Love Story Began

A close acquaintance of the two actors revealed, “They
started having feelings for each other before
‘Descendants of the Sun‘ had aired. The drama was pre-
produced so they actually began filming in the second
half of 2015.”

“Then early last year, Song Joong Ki secretly brought over
some snacks to the set of Song Hye Kyo’s photo shoot. It
was even before their drama began airing, so the staff
wondered why he came,” the acquaintance added.

Another alleged acquaintance further shared that Song
Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo sometimes accompanied
each other whenever they had international schedules.
Before their relationship began, Song Hye Kyo felt a bit
reluctant to date a celebrity, but she was eventually won
over by Song Joong Ki’s sincerity.

The acquaintance explained, “Song Joong Ki and Song
Hye Kyo didn’t really try to hide their relationship from the
people around them. They first told people they trusted,
and if someone else asked about it, they neither affirmed
nor denied.”

It turns out Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo might’ve
actually met earlier than “Descendants of the Sun“!
The July 10 broadcast of Channel A’s “Heard It Through
the Grapevine” discussed the two actors’ upcoming
marriage.
During the show, one of the panelists revealed that the
couple first met each other in 2013 through Jo In Sung,
who had starred in the drama “That Winter, the Wind
Blows” with Song Hye Kyo.
Another panelist then added, “Many actors, such as Jo In
Sung, Kim Woo Bin, Lee Min Ho, and Kang Dong Won,
were in talks for the role of Yoo Si Jin in ‘Descendants of
the Sun.’
However, most of them had to turn it down because the
drama was being pre-produced and filmed overseas. Jo
In Sung then recommended Song Joong Ki to the
production staff.”
It looks like Jo In Sung played a pretty significant role in
this whole thing!

During the interview, Song Joong Ki answers
questions regarding Song Hye Kyo and even
reveals the nicknames they have for one another
currently (jagiya), although he added that they
plan on thinking more carefully about nicknames
for one another after getting married.

Furthermore, the actor revealed that he and Song
Hye Kyo were good influences on one another and
made each other better people. Song Joong Ki
also shared that Song Hye Kyo’s “calm, poised
demeanor and compassion” were her greatest

conference for the movie ‘The Battleship Island’
and though being careful, he politely answered
questions about his fiancée.

On July 19, during the press conference, Song
Joong Ki was asked the question about Song Hye
Kyo turning down the Japanese brand (known to
be the war crime corporation) model proposal. He
replied, “I first heard about it through the media.
The first thought came to my mind was a big
applause to her. I would have done the same if it
happened to me.”

Then he added, “I think it was a common sense.
Now, she became the person that I love, and
because of that I am more proud of what she has
done.” He naturally referred to Song Hye Kyo as
‘the person I love.’

will have a much happier marriage,” said Song Joong Ki.

He later added, “I now have a woman to take care of for
the rest of my life.”

whole day.”

On July 27, Song Joong Ki made an appearance on
JTBC ‘Newsroom’ for the ‘Cultural Invitation’ segment.
On the show, he honestly talked about the movie ‘The
Battleship Island’ and his girlfriend Song Hye Kyo.
During the interview, he talked mainly about the
movie and its influence. He was thoughtful in
mentioning the delicate issue of the movie but firm
with his opinions. The MC praised Song Joong Ki by
saying, “I felt that you are a wise actor who improve
the influence of actor.”
In the end of the interview, the MC asked him the
reason for choosing the ending song from an old
movie, ‘The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.’ He replied, “I
watched the movie a while ago and I loved the
movie. And to be honest, it’s a favourite song of my
girlfriend, whom I will marry soon.”
