Understanding Our
Government

By: Mandy Roman and Brea Maggio

Introduction:

“Hey Bugs! The Tasmanian Devil was rambling about the government the other
day. I still don't understand a thing. Do you think you could explain further?” said
Daffy.

“Yeah of course Daffy! Then let’s get right into it,” said Bugs.

Chapter One: Declaration of Independence

“Let's start with the Declaration Of Independence,” said
Bugs.

“So the Declaration of Independence is the first letter
America wrote to King George, declaring ourselves
independent from England,” Bugs explained.

“Oh I get it!...So go on about this government stuff,” said
Daffy.

Chapter Two: Legislative Branch

“Now I’ll explain The Legislative Branch to you,” said Bugs.

“What’s that?” exclaimed Daffy.

“Well the Legislative Branch consists of The House Of Representatives,Congress and Senate. The House Of
Representatives is a house in congress. Each state sends more or less representatives to represent their state depending
on how big it is. The congress shares the power of with the President and the Supreme Court. The main role is to bring laws
to the government so the government can make decisions. Next, the Senate checks on bills, delegated legislation and
government administration...do you understand now?”

“Yes I get it,” said Daffy positively.

Chapter Three: Executive Branch

“Next up is the Executive Branch!” exclaimed Bugs.
“Uhhh ok…” Daffy said unsurely.
“The Executive Branch is responsible for enforcing laws. The people it consist of is the
president, vice president, and the cabinet.” Bugs informed.
“The cabinet?” Daffy said
“Yes the cabinet is the vice president and the heads of 15 executive
departments.” Bugs replied
“Oh I get it now thats pretty cool!” Daffy exclaimed

Chapter Four:Judicial Branch

“I think I know what the last one is called! Isn’t it Judicial?”
asked Daffy.

“Yes it is! The Judicial Branch consists of the Supreme Court
and other federal courts. They decide if laws are constitutional, appointed by the
president, there are nine Supreme court justices, and they can overturn rulings by
others.” replied Bugs.

“Woah I am learning so much about the branches of government today!” exclaimed
Daffy.

“We have one more thing to learn about! The Amendments and Bill of Rights.”
Bugs said.

Chapter Five:Amendments/Bills of Rights

“Here is the final thing I will tell you about the government!”said Bugs.

“I am ready!” exclaimed Daffy.

“An amendment is a minor change in a document in this case
the Declaration of Independence. The Bill of Rights are the first ten
amendments to the United States Constitution.” Bugs said.

“Wow I really know all about the government now!” Daffy said.
