Biography

The year 2010 became a turning point in the carrier of Russian soprano Elena Pankratova:
her fulminant role-debut as FÄRBERIN (R. Strauss Die Frau ohne Schatten) by Maggio
Musicale Fiorentino under the baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta, opened her the doors to the
major opera houses. She will appear as FÄRBERIN 2012 at La Scala di Milano and at
Valencia’s Palau de les Arts, 2013 - at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, 2014 - at the Berliner
Staatsoper Unter den Linden as well as at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

Born in Yekaterinburg, one of the biggest industrial and cultural centres of Russia, Elena
Pankratova was first studying conducting and piano in her native city and later graduated
with honours as singer and actor from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. She later was
the winner of several international singing competitions in Italy and Spain and polished for
years her roles of Italian repertoire with the great soprano Renata Scotto.

The young singer became her first opera engagement at the Staatstheater in Nuremberg,
where she immediately made her debut as AMELIA in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera and
sung the roles like TOSCA, ARIADNE, LADY BILLOWS or CONTESSA in Mozart’s Le
Nozze di Figaro. In Basel she sung ALICE in Falstaff, ELISABETH in Wagner’s
Tannhäuser, Soprano in Verdi’s Missa da Requiem and Bellini’s NORMA.

During her career Elena Pankratova appeared as LEONORA in Verdi’s Il Trovatore in
Stuttgart, Dortmund and Moskau; as GUTRUNE and 3rd NORN in Wagner’s
Götterdämmerung at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City; as ODABELLA in Verdi’s
Attila at the Staatstheater Darmstadt; as SAFFI in J. Strauß’s Der Zigeunerbaron at the
world biggest Festival of Operetta in Mörbisch (Austria); as LEONORA in La Forza del
Destino at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and at Theater Bremen; as NORMA in Düsseldorf,
Kiel and Ulm; as ROSALINDE at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt; as Soprano in Pergolesi’s
Stabat Mater in Kioi Hall in Tokyo; as SENTA in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer in
Frankfurt, Köln, Mainz und 2008 - at the Savonlinna Opera Festival (Finnland); as
ABIGAILLE in Verdi’s Nabucco in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Rotterdam and Den Haag; as
Puccini’s TOSCA at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, at the Ludwigsburg Festival, in
Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Innsbruck and 2010 – in Oslo:

Soprano worked with conductors as Kent Nagano, Ralf Weikert, Stefan Soltesz, Rudolf Bibl,
Massimo Zanetti, Nicola Luisotti, Julia Jones, Marc Soustrot, Giuliano Carella, John Fiore,
Marco Guidarini, and Axel Kober, as well as with stage directors as Tim Albery, Stefan
Herheim, Chen Kaige, Paul Curran, Carlus Padrissa, Claus Guth, Charles Roubaud,
Tilmann Knabe and Dieter Kaegi, to name just the few.

Ms. Pankratova’s future engagements include house-debut at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires
as ALICE in Verdi’s Falstaff 2010, Mahler’s 8th Symphony at MITO Festival in Turin 2011,
Rossini’s Stabat Mater in Marseille 2012, Puccini’s TURANDOT in Bonn 2011, in Florence
and Bologna 2012, as well as Verdi’s AIDA in Marseille 2013.
