PENROBOHOL WOMEN’S MONTH 2023 CULMINATION FILM SHOWING On March 29, 2023, as part of our culmination program, PENRO Bohol had a film showing entitled Black Widow with Natasha Romanoff, played by Scarlet Johansson, as the female lead star.
CENRO Tagbilaran City- conducted its kick-off program spearheaded by For. Elena G. Suarez, OIC-CENR Officer and was actively participated by all CENRO employees and staff. The activity includes the hanging of Cloth Streamers and a short program highlighting the importance of National Women’s Month Celebration and Gender & Development, which was discussed by GAD Focal, For. Glicerita Racho. Also, part of the activity was trivia questions, video production on Gender and Development (GAD) strategies implemented by the office, distribution of informational materials and Zumba dance to enhance the physical aspect of women. DENR-CENRO kicks off last March 6, 2023 held at DENR-CENRO office. The activity officially started by a Holy mass right after the regular flag raising ceremony and Monday program. The second part of the activity was the afternoon Zumba session by 54 employees of CENRO- Talibon (29 males and 25 females) within the office premises in order to increase the productivity and to make the office environment a happy place to work at with positivity and good health not just for women but all genders alike. GENDER SENSITIVITY BASIC CONCEPT ON GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT CENROTALIBON A short lecture by the Information Officer For. Rosvil A. Betos about “Gender Sensitivity” Basic Concept on Gender and Development which objective is to reviews the concept of sex, gender characteristics, gender roles, and other key concepts related to Gender and Development (GAD). Also, she elaborated that Development is for all and Equality or equity demands that everyone in the society, whether male or female, has the right to do the same opportunities to attain a healthier life
SUPPORT OF THE #PURPLEWEDNESDAY CENROTALIBON The DENR-CENRO Talibon women and all gender enjoin the wearing of anything purple for all Wednesday of March to signify support gender equality and women empowerment. It inspire a renewed commitment to advocacy and banks on gains achieved during the 2016-2022 theme “WE Make CHANGE Work for Women” which emphasized the need for compassionate and harmonized networks towards Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (GEWE).
IEC DISTRIBUTION CENROTALIBON Another activity was the distribution of IEC materials on Magna Carta of Women to the internal and external clients as strategic ways in raising awareness and information on the current gender issues. The IEC materials distributed to 30 recipients (employees and clients) was the “Frequently Asked Questions on Magna Carta of Women (Republic Act No. 9710) which is beneficial to the employees. It consist questions on the right of women under the said law, special benefits of Magna Carta for female employees and maternity benefit entitled by this act. The recipients assured that the leaflets shall be shared to others to help promote awareness on the Magna Carta where the needs of women and men are included in the project cycle and both can contribute to and benefit from development.

Laguitao led the activity by organizing women empowerment song, dance and balak contest composed of three teams (pink, red and green) and each team consists of male and female participants.

Region 7 Nominee for Women Leader This year’s National Women’s Month theme, “We for Gender Equality, inclusive and Resilient Society,” aims to highlight the participation and contribution of women in pursuing gender equality. The DENR provided programs and projects that help attain the stability of our environment and at the same time uplift the economic aspect of our upland communities. Hence, CENRO Tagbilaran City recommends Ms. Shirley I. Barcenas, a women leader of Candabong RIC Multipurpose Cooperative situated in Candabong, Loboc, Bohol. This organization has existing implementation of the Enhanced National Greening Program (ENGP) and engaged into Loboc Salabat Processing as a livelihood program of the women and men in the community Ms. Shirley I. Barcenas, a 57-year-old woman and a dedicated leader of Candabong Rural Improvement Club Multipurpose Cooperative situated at barangay Candabong, Loboc, Bohol. She is also a dedicated women leader and a Gender-And-Development Committee chair of the organization who envisioned for something better and best for its members - collaborated with various government agencies to acquire livelihood and income-generating programs to provide economic upliftment of the members through employment. She’s a leader bringing this marginalized women group meet women’s needs and promote gender equality. Currently, the organization has 114 active members and is registered to the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA). About 65% of the members of the association are women and are engaged into livelihood and greening projects.
Region 7 Nominee for Women Leader Through her strong leadership and commitment, the organization has an existing Loboc Salabat Processing unit assisted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) known to the market, locally and internationally. Its members regardless of gender are involved into Salabat processing and the husbands are involved in Turmeric and Ginger “Luy-a” Production. She instilled that men and women are equal in terms of employment in the organization. About one (1) hectare of raw materials for Turmeric and Ginger were established to sustain the production of Loboc Salabat. Moreover, individual family members are given opportunities and are encourage to plant ginger and turmeric in their backyards with corresponding incentive, and the association agreed to buy their produce. In the greening aspect, they worked closely in conserving and protecting the environment through the implementation of the Enhanced National Greening Program (ENGP) with existing contract on the maintenance and protection of the 80-hectare Rattan Plantation established on FY 2022. Women plays an important role in the activities for ENGP. They are involved in nursery establishment, production of planting materials for rattan as well as maintenance and protection activities to sustain the established plantation.
