Junior Masterchef How to Make Homemade French Fries] Done by Tanisha singhi-6A 1-Wash the potatoes, scrubbing them well, and dry completely. Peeling is optional and comes down to personal preference. Peeled or unpeeled, the cut is absolutely key when making fries. If you have a kitchen mandoline, this is the time to break it out and use it. If not, cut each potato in half the long way, lay the cut side flat on the cutting surface, and cut into 1/2-inch to 1/4-inch slices. Stack these slices and cut them into the same width sticks to make matchstick fries. Repeat with the remaining potatoes. 2-Put the cut potatoes in a large bowl and cover with cool water. Soak for at least 20 minutes or up to an hour. This step gets rid of excess starch, resulting in fluffier and crispier fries. 3-Drain the potato sticks and pat them dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Arrange them in a single layer to air-dry for a bit. The drier they are before frying, the better. 4-Bring at least 2 inches of oil in a large heavy pot to 325 F. Once the oil is hot, fry the potatoes for about 5 minutes. Work in batches if you're making more than one or two potatoes' worth. Adding too many fries at one time will bring down the temperature of the oil and cause soggy fries. 5-Lift the fries out of the oil using a slotted spoon or spider then drain the oil out after that out it in a big bowl and sprinkle some salt over it Finally serve it and enjoy

Book Recommendations I’ve recently been reading “The Little Princess”, a novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, introduced by Adeline Yen Mah. It’s a beautiful novel, even though I’ve only reached halfway. A little girl, Sara, is sent to boarding school. There, she is treated like a princess for her dad’s wealth, envied for her ermine coats and silk frocks and her imaginative cleverness. But when she gets news that her dad has died, her whole life turns upside down. She is no more a wealthy heiress, but a pauper with nothing to get. Will she stick to her hope and cleverness to get through this sad time? By Fiza 9G

World of the future Good day to all of the readers. This column is all about the world of the future. Have you ever imagined, how the world would look like in the future? How much more would it have to develop? This column will show how technology used to be in the past and how it is now and our predictions on how it would probably look like in the future Contributors: Amogh Varnieka Mohammed Ameer Sri Varshini Comparisons on next page Predictions on the page after that

Comparisons Things in past used to be a lot different than they are today. In this column, we are going to be comparing cars in the olden days vs cars today Predictions People are coming up with numerous amount of CRAZY car ideas. When I say CRAZY I really mean it. Dubai is running tests for its next “FLYING TAXI”. All this is happening in the year 2021 so imagine the next hundred years. I feel like future cars would have ROCKET LAUNCHERS and maybe a eco friendly engine fuel. If we are talking about the interiors I would say a screen which is actually just a hologram and seats that recline fully back.

Class Experiences Honestly speaking my class experience is great, we are on a all time high on behavior and achievement points. My class has become more known of each other which makes our class a bonding community of trust and effort. At the moment our class is training for sports day and ready to flash their speed in the eyes of the spectators. Even me personally has been training on the treadmill for hours. Well like they say, practise makes man perfect. Well that's all I have for the class experience. Made by Ali Bhutta 7B1

Class Experiences When speaking of my class, I feel kind of proud. and maybe a little disappointed. I am extremely proud that we were the first class in Year 7 to get 1000 achievement points and currently have the highest number of achievement points, but we also have the highest number of behaviour points in Year 7 and all of Secondary. Anyway, on the topic of lessons, the lessons are very engaging and interesting, especially in English class with Ms. Sonia- where we have to find evidence from the book called 'Holes' by Louis Sachar & articulate our answers based on the text. Our lessons are interesting and our progress checks are challenging. All in all, our class is one of the best in the school. Written By: Muhammad Rayyan Noor-7B1

Short stories THE CASE OF THE MYSTERIOUS MIDNIGHT DRINK SUKENA HUSSAIN This evening Mrs. Wong was reading Sherlock Holmes: The study in scarlet. She was enjoying the book a great deal. When she heard a heavy thud and a blood-curdling scream from the room above. That room was the Lord and Lady’s room. Mrs. Wong was just about ready to make a run for it. Then she heard a voice shriek out “OH MRS. WONG! MRS. WONG! PLEASE HELP!”. Mrs. Wong dashed out of the ballroom and up sprinted up the marble stairs barefoot. Then she turned and ran down the carpeted corridor until she reached the Lord and Lady’s room. She barged in and saw Lady Greyson on her knees over Lord Greyson’s unconscious body. “Oh Mrs. Wong, I-I don’t know what happened he was fine a few moments ago.” The panicked blonde lady said.

Short stories “Lady Greyson, what happened?” Mrs. Wong asked, her eyes fixed on the chubby man on the floor. “I-I don’t know, he-he was just talking to me while I was getting ready for bed and then he fell.”. “Do you know what he was doing?”. “I-I think he was getting a ceramic mug from his cupboard.” The lady said while pointing to a small, illuminated cupboard in the corner of the room. Mrs. Wong looked over to Lord Greyson’s cupboard. It was a glass cupboard with lights on every shelf to make it look more appealing. There selves were filled with countless exotic juices from all over the world. Mrs. Wong never saw the point of filling a bookshelf with overly priced juices instead of books it just seemed a waste.

Short stories Mrs. Wong turned her attention back to Lady Greyson who was currently sitting beside Lord Greyson with tears in her eyes. “Oh Lady Greyson! You must be horrified! I am so sorry; you should go down to your powder room and take a long bath. I will take care of it all.” Mrs. Wong said ushering Lady Greyson out of the room. “Well, a bath does sound nice, very well then.” Lady Greyson replied leaving the room.

Short Stories The chronicles of Big Chungus Once upon a time lived a rabbit named Big Chungus, he was no ordinary rabbit but a big rabbit who had no friends and is very lazy to hop. He walked on his own two feet, or did he? All the citizens of Rabbitopia claimed he is building an invention. He called it the Chungus Levitator 3000. Essentially it is a hoverboard, but how can a rabbit build one? Being a layback rabbit with nothing to do, he spent, and only this one time, to make a transportational device. Big Chungus is an orphan and mainly disliked by the people. Everyday he would go out to the streets and try to gain a better view of the people on him. As usual no one cares and poor Chungus is all on his own. That's the reason behind his master invention, to gain attention. He was homeless as he was too lazy to build a rabbit home. He sleeps in a tiny shed made of wood, which took him five minutes to make. Chungus finally got of his lazy attitude and searched the city for some chips and wires to make the board. While for us humans it takes a few minutes, Chungus took months to get to the city. After arriving he hoped for the first time in his life on a mobile forcing it to smash on the ground. Chungus ran for the chips and the wires and went straight home. By Ali Bhutta 7B1

Short Stories He spent months getting back home barely surviving and upon arriving he rushed to the lake for a drink. After that, he went back to his shed and continued building. People were happy that Chungus was no more they thought. Soon enough he will make a mark in the history of rabbits. Spending even more months Chungus was going mad. But he knew the more he pushed the more he made progress. The more he worked, the more weight he lost. Finally after a years journey, Chungus made his hoverboard and preached the idea to the village. People actually liked the idea and Chungus got a more meaningful remark than history. And it’s to never judge a book by it’s cover.

Short story Music for the clouds Done by Tanisha singhi There was once a tiny country that was suffering from a long drought. It had gone so long without rain that the people there were starting to go hungry because of the bad harvests. It just so happened that a group of musicians were travelling the country, trying to make a living from their concerts. But with so many problems in the land, no one felt like listening to music. -"But music can help overcome any problems," objected the musicians, without anyone paying them the slightest attention. So the musicians tried to find out the reason it wouldn't rain. It was very strange, because the sky was overcast, but no one could provide an answer. -"It's been cloudy like this for many months, but not a single drop of rain has fallen," people would tell them -"Don't worry, we'll bring rain to the country," the musicians responded, and they began rehearsing for a concert at the summit of the highest mountain. Everyone who heard the music was seized by curiosity and went up the mountain. And the conductor of this strange orchestra gave the order, and the musicians began to play.

From their instruments came small, playful musical notes, that rose and rose into the clouds. The music was so joyous, happy and fun, and the notes started playing with with the clouds' soft, fluffy bellies, running here and three, up and down, and the whole sky turned into one big game of tickle torture. Before long, the giant clouds were thundering with laughter. The musicians continued playing joyfully and a few minutes later the clouds, crying with laughter, soaked the little country below with their precious tears, bringing happiness to all. And in memory of that musical rain, everyone in the land learned how to play an instrument and, taking turns, would go up the mountain every day to bring joy to the clouds with their beautiful songs. Tips for our fellow students: 1. Get Organized. Making a plan for what you're going to do and when you're going to do it will make sure you're always ahead of the curve - literally. 2. Don't multitask. Studies have shown that multitasking is physically impossible. 3. Divide it up. Studying isn't fun to begin with, and forcing yourself through a study marathon will only make it worse. Dividing your work into manageable chunks and rewarding yourself when you finish each chunk will make studying (more) fun. 4. Sleep. Don't underestimate the importance of those eight hours of zzz's every night! Getting a good night's rest will sharpen your focus and improve your working memory. 5. Set a schedule. Do you work better right after school or after you've eaten dinner? Are you more productive in 90-minute blocks or half-hour spurts? Find a schedule that works for you, and stick to it. By:Kirat Kumar 9B-2

Some more tips for our fellow students: 1. Take notes. Taking notes will not only keep you more engaged during class, but will also help you narrow down what you need to study when exam time rolls around. It's much easier to reread your notes than to reread your entire textbook! 2. Study. This one might be obvious, but did you know that there's a right and a wrong way to study? Review your material several days ahead of time, in small chunks, and in different manners (for example, write flashcards one day and take practice tests the next). In other words, don't cram. 3. Manage your study space. Find a place that will maximize your productivity. Look for places away from the television and other distractions. Whether it's your local library or just the desk in your bedroom, set aside a study space that you'll want to spend time in. 4. Find a study group. Sitting down with a group of people who are learning the same things as you is a great way to go over confusing class material or prepare for a big test. You can quiz each other, reteach material, and make sure that everyone is on the same page. After all, teaching someone else is the best way to learn. 5. Ask questions. You're in school to learn, so don't be afraid to do just that! Asking for help - from a teacher, a tutor or your friends - is a surefire way to make sure you truly understand the material.
