Can You Imagine? (A Poem By Sarah Homam Alkassir) Can you imagine a world where hands entwine, Crafting a future that is divine, A magical place where we unite, A magical place that seems forever bright. Can you envision a land where trees stand strong, Oceans where Vaquitas belong, Air that smells so sweet, so fresh, So nice that you long to take a deep breath. Can you picture a society where no one’s afraid to be themselves, Where nobody tries to be someone else, Where differences are celebrated and diversity is all over the place, Where, for once, people appreciate you for you and not your face. This world that I’m speaking of, It may seem a make-believe but really is not, But in each hand that joins to strive, Lies the power to ensure this dream's alive.

Column of the future Good day to all of the readers. This column is all about the world of the future. Have you ever imagined, how the world would look like in the future? How much more would it have to develop? This column will show how technology used to be in the past and how it is now and our predictions on how it would probably look like in the future Comparisons on next page Predictions on the page after that
Comparisons Things in past used to be a lot different than they are today. In this column, we are going to be comparing cars in the olden days vs cars today Predictions People are coming up with numerous amount of CRAZY car ideas. When I say CRAZY I really mean it. Dubai is running tests for its next “FLYING TAXI”. All this is happening in the year 2021 so imagine the next hundred years. I feel like future cars would have ROCKET LAUNCHERS and maybe a eco friendly engine fuel. If we are talking about the interiors I would say a screen which is actually just a hologram and seats that recline fully back.
Short stories: A Saviours Destiny-Firelight In all of my life, not once have I ever felt free. I feel constricted and bounded by those who command me to do something, time and time again. I have never experienced the sensation of freedom and individuality. I also am constantly reminded of my ability to remedy others both physically and mentally. “Sevir, you should be thankful that you have been blessed with these…. powers!” “You know Sevir, God has blessed you with this gift, it is enthralling what you can do.” “Sevir, thanks for the quick mend. My mind feels eased and balanced again. You should consider helping distraught people and those whose body or mental state is dysfunctional.” Conversely, I have never felt the same way. I always think that I was given a burden, rather than a gift, of these powers, considering no one lets me be myself, or give me the chance (let alone endeavour) to decide what I want to do, going ahead. My powers have left me astray, when they have had the adverse effect than me being in the limelight.
To summarise, I wanted nothing to do with my powers. I think that it makes me feel like a disgrace. If anything, I think I am incapable of utilising my potential and that I am quite incompetent when it comes to proper usage of my abilities and wished that God had granted them to a person wise and worthy enough to carry out these tasks effectively. I was woken up from my daydreaming by Mother. “So Sevir,” Mother began, “what do you plan to do?” “Excuse me? “ “You know, the ongoing global crisis in where people are struggling to survive and adapt to the environment, what do you plan to do about it?” “Exactly, I don’t understand why you are, all of a sudden, targeting me with your statements.” I blurted, not realising how harsh that sounded. “I’m talking to you.” “Not like that, I mean, why me? There’s Katie, and there’s Eldor. Why me? And I don’t dare dream to cross the border of using my powers ever again.” Outraged, I stood up, and left without any further comment and locked myself inside my room. But I knew exactly why Mother asked me. First of all, I’m the only one in the family with powers that are serviceable as per the situation-not that anyone in my family besides me has any powers. As the world is dying of many human-caused problems such as diseases, loss of stability in the economical and energy production sector, wars, and global warming just to name a few, people are suffering, even people who have no role in these calamities. So, I have the power to restore humanity. Second of all, Katie is 5 years old and can barely be of any benefit. Eldor has to help Mother with in and out of house formalities.
I bit back my lip and tried to stop myself from crying. Thinking about Eldor helping mom reminded me of my late father. But the tears shed, nonetheless. He was too much of a saddening memory to be able to forget, especially for me, the person who could’ve saved him from death, but failed. The reminiscence was rushed back into my mind space, and I could evade it no longer. I was brought back to the scene, my father, laying there on the ground fighting for life. He rasped and coughed, choking of dust particles deep in his throat. He had inhaled fumes of smoke that wafted through the air. As he was a soldier, he was designated a place to check perimeter, that was later to be the epicentre of a bombing barrage. He was breathing quite heavily. And there I was, my hands firm in his chest, trying to manifest and channel all my healing power and energy to the centre of his body, the area affected most. I concentrated every single thought and atom of myself, my very being and aura itself, to try and revive him. But all of my efforts proved to be of no avail. He lay there lifeless and placid, never to return again. This remembrance was deathly and haunting. It was etched back into my brain but would-at timesreturn and haunt me. It reminded of how skill-less I am. This was more than reason enough for me to not utilise my power. I didn’t want to fail anyone else like how I did my very own father. The opening of a door brought me back to reality. Mother sat beside me, stroking and comforting me, as if she knew what I was thinking.
“Sevir, now listen to me. I know this might seem unfair, but you have been gifted these powers for a purpose. That purpose might be helping others in hard times. Failing one person does not mean giving it up and wasting your chance to be a part of the greater good. Everyone has their purpose and destiny, and this is yours. We all have one, it’s just that we haven’t found it yet.” I looked up at her, smiling. “Let me tell you something, Sevir in English translates to Saviour. So, live up to your name and be the firelight in this dark, gloomy and corrupted world. Bring justice to injustice, faith to the bruised and guide the lost. Always protect those who can’t protect themselves. Fulfil your destiny and be the Saviour of us in these dark times.” These words gave me encouragement, confidence and hope, reason enough to stand and make a difference. I ran out of the house, staring out at the horizon, the breeze sifting through my hair. The world needed a firelight, a one that saves them all. I’m sure that this is only just the beginning of what is to be, a glorious and an eventful voyage in the fulfilment of my dream, mission and destiny. My name is Saviour, Firelight of Earth, and this is my story. By Taher Hussain 9B1
