“IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK
There is something about the month of December that sends off a vibe of peace and
serenity. A number of warring countries in the course of history even held their ceasefires
in December! Add to this the most wonderful weather in Egypt -- chilly and sunny and
crisp and bright. Then throw in a fantastically decorated Christmas Bazaar, and you can
create a mental picture of the lovely day we all shared together on campus. Initiated and
organized by the MLS French Division, with the American Division right there beside them
offering its Choir Club, and even Dr. Soliman’s famous barbeque stand, the event was a
great success. Students, parents and teachers of MLS’ various divisions came together
to spend a warm and fun-packed day with a special appearance by the lovely Rula Zaki,
Egypt’s “voice of peace” as she has come to be known for her songs spreading concord
and harmony for all.

MLS Cares!
MLS Cares is such a popular and heartfelt club that it deserves to be set apart. Ms. Alaa Assem,
the club coordinator, goes to great lengths to provide students with various activities to raise
money for their chosen charities. The club’s income-generating activities include bake sales and
garage sales, aiming to raise money for orphanages, children’s hospitals, elderly homes, animal
shelters, distribution of blankets in winter, and compiling bags of staple food commodities before
Ramadan. This work generates a sense of responsibility and compassion for the less privileged and
focuses on the value of charity work.
All money earned is sent directly to
those who need it which creates a
very personal relation between the
givers and receivers. Thank you for
your big hearts, MLS Cares!

MLS’ greatest champs
Loud applause to our Grade 9 athlete Nadeem Ghaly, who broke a swimming record! Being the first autistic
boy to represent Egypt in the International Sports Federation for Persons with Intellectual Disability
Championship (INAS), Nadeem could only qualify if he timed under 32 seconds, but he actually broke the
record by timing 30.75 seconds in crawl swimming! Additionally, Grade 9’s Karim Sherif earned a bronze
as well as a silver medal in the INAS championship for table tennis in the Czech Republic. Amazing, you
guys! Thank you Ms. Dina Yassin for your constant support of our Special Education champions!

RECIPE CORNER by Mariam Magdy
French Silk Pie
Crust:
2 cups flour, preferably sifted
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup butter, cubed
5-7 tablespoons cold water
Method:
1.Mix the flour, salt, and the cubed butter either
using a food processor or by working them in with
hands until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
2.Add five tablespoons of water and knead until
the mixture forms a ball, if it is too dry, add
another tablespoon of water.
3.Roll out the piecrust to fill the desired pan,
and then refrigerate it for 1 hour.
4.Prick the crust with a fork and bake it for at
least ten minutes, or until it browns.
Filling: 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream, chilled
3 large eggs 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 1/2 inch
3/4 cup sugar pieces and softened
2 tablespoons water
1 cup (or about a little more than 125 grams)
bittersweet chocolate, melted and cooled
Method:
1.Whip the chilled cream using until stiff peaks form (meaning
it can hold its shape when you lift the whisk or mixer out of
it), then refrigerate it while you work on the rest.
2.Combine the eggs, sugar, and water in a heatproof bowl set
over a medium saucepan filled with simmering water, and,
using a hand mixer, beat the mixture on medium speed until
thickened (which would take around 7-10 minutes). Remove
the bowl from heat and continue to beat the mixture until
fluffy and cooled to room temperature (about 8 minutes).
3.Beat in the cooled, melted chocolate, the vanilla, and slowly add in the butter (a few pieces at a time),
until well combined.
4.Temper the chocolate mix with the whipped cream mix (take a spoonful or two of the whipped cream
and mix it, using a spatula or a spoon, with the chocolate mixture), then mix both of them together until
no streaks remain. Now add to a cooled pie crust and refrigerate until set (at least 3 hours).
