Imagined Landscapes Lydia Buxton
Definition of my chosen theme Imagined Landscapes The ‘vision’ addresses these waking concerns through the possibilities of the imaginative landscapes offered by the dream-state You can imagine landscape paintings the lines defining the mountains, clouds and so on
Synonyms of my chosen theme false landscape made-up scene imaginary nature ideal prospect ideal terrain abstract landscape hypothetical scene
Why did I choose this Theme? I chose this theme as I'd like to have some fun with my creativity as I have never really taken photos so I think it’d be a fun project to do, and I can also take photos of some of my favourite natural phenomena, clouds and man-made objects such as powerlines.
Imagined landscapes The main artists that I will be researching are acloudyskye and Filip Hodas Adding in objects and making the environment looking more surreal, adding in mainly – Powerlines, Barren Plaines and deserts, rectangular 3D rocks and different props Artists acloudyskye Filip Hodas Victoria Siemer Oliver Jeffers Giacomo Costa Techniques Ways to Present Digital Collages Physical collages PowerPoints Physical collages Animation? Photoshoot 1 Landscapes
These are some pictures I took around near my area Brandon, Mostly down near a lake where there’s just farms, sunflower fields and pine forests, no one ever really goes down there so I thought it would be a good place to take these, I like the powerlines ones the most especially the ones with the most clouds since that’s the main thing I'm going for, very barren places with a lot of clouds and powerlines.
Crop 1 Crop 3 Crop 4 Crop 2 Cropped images of an image I took, I’m trying to see what would be the most ideal format to edit the image in.
This is one of my favourite photos I have taken out of the bunch I took this is where my house is as it is on a sort of very tall hill where the clouds are quite close, there is a powerline near there and every day when there are large cloud formations it always looks something like this and sometimes even better, I want most of my photos to have clouds involved as I love taking photos of them on days like these, They are great for imagining landscapes too. Developments Photomosh
Photomosh has many properties – often used for glitching and distorting, luckily photomosh is a (mostly) free website that you can find and use. Along with this photomosh can also randomize effects with the ‘Mosh’ button giving you a lot of variety. Here is a photomosh experiment that I am trying For this piece I used the pixelate feature on photomosh – I moved all of the pixels up to 200 to get the best result
Edit 1 Edit 3 Edit 2 Edit 4
Edit 5 Edit 6 Edit 7 Edit 8
This is an image I took of a power line outside of my house, a little while away but my camera has good zoom, I edited this in photomosh, and It came out with this edit which I really like as it looks like it's been covered by the sea and is reflecting off the water. Overall, I wish I worked more on the quality of the image, maybe experimenting with it a little bit more Evaluatio n
Artist Research acloudyskye
Acloudyskye’s work is very abstract, giving you the feeling of isolation and at most a sort of desolate feel – his work consists of a very prominent theme of the ocean and water, I wanted to choose his work as it is a large inspiration for me, its just the general style he does his work in, I also enjoy the stories he creates with his work.
Not much is known about him, but he is a large inspiration for most of my photography and world building, and his music is great to listen to while doing various activates, I usually listen to his music when drawing or doing my homework. His characters Illa and Enth are unique, and the story for them is just as unique, this world is based in a dystopian landscape originally hosted by humans and is now just abandoned, we don’t know why or how yet But I am eagerly waiting for him to release one of his other animations to tell the rest of the story. He inspires me to explore more landscapes and other techniques.
acloudyskye is a musical artist and 3D – 2D artist who lives in America, he is 22 (as of currently), and makes electronic music and does the cover art for them in a program called blender, he makes 3D animations and is currently creating a story with his art and music on his Youtube channel, he uses a lot of imaginary landscapes in this animations and art. acloudysky e
This is an album cover for acloudyskye’s album, ‘blood rushing like a current through a powerline’, this is one of the biggest inspirations for my photography along with a few other images, this was made in blender and shows a character (Enth) standing on a very clean white sand beach near a leaning powerline pole, it is shown that the character (Enth) has travelled overseas to get to this place Analysis
Photoshoot 2 Powerlines and Clouds
For this photoshoot, I will be taking to beaches and looking out for unique cloud formations and finding powerlines and pylons, cloudy days are what I am aiming for as pylons and powerlines standout more when they are photographed with a very cloudy background. After the photoshoot I will be using photoshop for editing and start making my landscapes, I may also use procreate to insert some of my drawings in to make it more unique. This Photoshoot will be inspired off acloudyskyes work as he is a very big inspiration for most of my photos and even my art at times, so he will be my biggest inspiration throughout most of my GCSE course.
This mood board is based on cloudy skies and pylons | powerlines, this is to help me get an idea of my next photoshoot.
Here is a photoshoot taken around my area, most of these were taken on foggy days (which is inconvenient as I wished for some good view of clouds), but these photos will do good for some edits
Here is a photo I took right up close to a pylon in a field, I think this photo is one of the best I took out of the ones I have taken for this photoshoot, these are the types of photos I will be taking; however, I'm hoping for some good clouds to show when I take these (as I am aiming for a good photo with clouds and pylons), however this proves difficult sometimes as the weather can make the sky completely clear. Evaluatio n
These are edits I made with photoshop, I really like 1 and 4 since they seem more surreal and stranger (however not exactly what I'm looking for), they are still good for my evaluation and make for a good example of edits
This was edited using photomosh, I really like how this became some sort of acid triplike image, with the strange illusions and abstract patterns, the blinding white and strained black really bring this image out, especially the pylon and the background trees, I might do more images with this effect as It is something that I'd be interested in just doing a full gallery of images with these effects that also go along with my theme. Evaluatio n
Here is a little experiment I did with some of the images I took for this photoshoot, I wanted to make a little gallery of these specific effects (mainly an effect called Linocut), I like these edits because they seem to be more abstract and interesting, moving them around using the noise effect in photomosh can hurt your eyes sometimes but it makes it look more alive and stranger. Digital Collage Experiments with Photoshop
This piece is one of the few I am experimenting with I'm not as proud of this one as the colors and background don’t contrast as well as some I have in the making, but I digress, I think this was a good start to the photoshop test that I am doing to broaden my abilities in photoshop. Evaluatio n
This is Jophiel a character I made specifically for photography, they will appear in some of my images, specifically ones that I feel they would fit in, they will be in different poses every time I draw them for an image I make. Here is the process of how I made this image (shown fully on next slide), first I put the picture of the sky, then the mountain png then I added the ocean to go with it and added some birds with a layer effect on ( I have forgotten what though ), then I added a white outline of a character I made.
This piece I am very proud of as the colors and the shades work perfectly together; I like how I got a chance to include a white outline of a random character I made specifically for which added a lot to this image, I really liked experimenting with these images and maybe I'll be able to use my own (instead of the ones in the asset folder). Developing Ideas Experiments with Photoshop
I used photoshop to produce this piece Here is the process in which I created this piece
Overall, I am happy with this project, and I hope to do more in the future – my favourite feature is the powerlines stretching out of the canvas, overall, I may do more projects like this in the future. Evaluatio n
Photoshoot 3 Beaches
This was produced in photoshop using 3 different photos and blending them together. Here is the process in which I did this piece
Here I have created a collage of images from multiple I have taken, the beach pictures and cliff picture were both taken at Seaham, I wanted to get to Seaham on a moodier day to get the feel I was going for – the clouds picture was taken when I was on a walk going home. Evaluatio n
Overall I am happy with these results and the edits I have made – all of them are unique and contrast from each other – I used different effects from photomosh for each. Here I edited some images in photomosh so I could get some more varied results
Here is the second edit that I did, I like this one as it reminds me of some of the first horror game – 3d monster maze, one of the first horror games ever made, along with this it does give some unsettling feelings as it looks very incomparable to the human eye – it looks in a way confusing. Evaluatio n
Here I used one of my past images I had created and put it through photomosh using duo tone with hex codes of grey and green – which is a theme I am going with for now. Here is yet another image that I made a while ago- I used this one for my beach's photoshoot – this one I used a much lighter and duller green and a saturated brown.
Here I have used one of my projects ‘Ent’ and developed on it with some new ideas I have had – I used some pages from the fabrica (or human fabric) to create a sort of collage, I used multiple overlay and colour effects to get the desired outcome of the image, I first changed the colour of the image using the bucket tool on a overlaying layer and set the effect to ‘colour’ – then I inserted the page of the fabrica and set the effect to ‘overlay’ after that I used the text tool and rotated the text to the left. Here are the effects that I used to get the desired outlook on this image ‘colour’ was to change the colour of the base image and ‘overlay’ was used to change the image of the fabrica.
Artist Research Studio Imeus
I could use these as inspiration to use postcards In my next section This studio uses postcards to edit, some with abstract imagery and they edit them by adding shapes and slicing them in half.
