PROFILE

ABOUT ME

NAME: MARIANA CHONG SIAU SIAN
STUDENT ID: 012020020849
AGE: 23YO
COURSE: BACHELOR IN TEACHING ENGLISH AS
SECOND LANGUAGE (BTESL)
INSTITUTION: MANAGEMENT AND SCIENCE
UNIVERSITY

I WAS BORN IN SARAWAK WITH MIX BLOOD OF CHINESE AND LUNBAWANG.
ENGLISH WAS NEVER MY FIRST LANGUAGE BUT MY FATHER KNOWS THE

IMPORTANCE OF SPEAKING ENGLISH SO HE SEND ME TO A FULLY ENGLISH
LANGUAGE KINDERGARTEN. AS I GROW, I LEARN THE LANGUAGE VERY WELL AND
ENJOY TEACHING MY FRIENDS SOMETIMES. THAT'S WHERE I PURSUE BTESL IN
MSU, SHAH ALAM.

Teaching is one of the honorable occupations PERSONAL
because what we become now is based on what

our teacher has shaped us.

PRINCIPLE INFor me, being a teacher should be equal to all
TEACHING
students despite their social status or their
background. A teacher should not be biased

with their students in teaching, hence it could

cause the students some hard time to adjust in

our lesson.

We should have good communication with students to smoothen the lesson

in class and develop their interest to learn. students would appreciate

the teacher so much if they listen and communicate with everyone in the

class. no students would left behind. this would apply when teaching

students with different proficiency.

As a teacher too, we should consistently create a fun environment in the

class and in the lesson itself. create a game concept, insert a

psychomotor activity or interact activity. i believe to create a fun class

will result in good achievement of the learning objective.

Page 01

OVERVIEW I learned a lot in Mircroteaching,
ABOUT as a future teacher. My lecturer,
Madam Nirmala has given her

MICROTEACHINGfull support and energy to give us
full insight into being a teacher in

school and what to expect ato be in school.
Overall lesson on Microteaching, I know one thing is that it is

not easy to teach students especially when you have a lot of

requirements in the teaching. Even when you do know how

and love to teach, as teachers, we need to reconsider a lot

of other elements. We need to look into students' proficiency

to determine our lesson plan within different classes.

Some students will give a lot of reactions in classroom, such

as being rude, lazy to participate, or fully active in class,

causing you trouble teaching or smoothening your teaching.

As a teacher, we need to know how to cater to all of the

students' performances and their attitudes in class. We need

their attention in class for them to understand the lesson. To

do that, the teacher has to do something to grasp their

attention.

There are a lot of strategies that can be used in the

classroom throughout this subject. Despite it being done in

short semester, I am grateful to my lecture for teaching and

preparing us for our next step of being a teacher - internship.

Overall I have learned a lot to be prepared as a teacher,

engage with students and deliver a lesson accordingly by

achieving the learning objective that we have set. We also

have to maintain a fun classroom to get the student's

interest to learn English as English is also one of the crucial

languages in globalization.

In the previous lesson, Madam asked us to find what was the
differences between KBSM and KSSM and what changes. We did a
discussion of the differences and changes based on what we have
found. What I mostly fond of the changes is that KSSM doesn't just give
up on the students who fail and cannot learn well. They will retrain until
they understood the lesson given and pass. In KBSM, mostly the
students drop out of school when they fail. This is why the changes were
made because the number of students dropping out was very high in
the KBSM era. We must fully understand the content within the DSKP. In
lesson plan, we learn more in-depth about what should we write the
content of it. What's most important is that it must be connected to the
activity and overall content in the first half. It will be a foul lesson plan if
it doesn't connect and follow what the DSKP stated.

For this tutorial, madam has
given a few advice and tips.
The allocation of time is very
important in teaching and
planning. It will take so
much effort with time
consumed in teaching.

In school, most of the teachers have to join workshops and it is
recommended for young teachers to join as well, especially in STEM
workshops.
In KSSM too, HOTs will be integrated with roles to prepare our students for
the outside world. HOTs will be used based on Bloom's Taxonomy level
from lower to the top. With this, we were asked to download all form of
DSKP and textbook for the next class.

Part 2 in learning the content of the lesson plan. The lesson plan is also a
guidance to another replacement teacher when you are unable to
come because of unavoidable incidents. Another point regarding
content standard is that it is where teacher fixes the destination that you
want the students to be and the objective is to answer WH questions. In
doing a lesson plan, the teacher must also incorporate students'
proficiency in the lesson. The activities must be the same standard as
the students' level of proficiency which not too hard or easy.
The role of learning outcome in lesson plan can affect one another:

learning goals &
objectives

Teaching & learning align feedback & assessment
activities together

If assessments were made with no feedback , you won't be able to know
if you have achieved the objective you have set in the lesson plan. To
portray objectives too, it has to liaise with SMART as the criteria to create
objectives. It must be specific with the verb/action word, measurable,
feasible and possible to achieve. All must refer back to Bloom's
Taxonomy. In classroom, teachers were advised to share learning
outcomes with the students so they are aware of the lesson and assist
the teacher as well.
The benefits of learning outcomes for teachers are teachers get proper
feedback, did not waste time, deliver a good lesson, more prepared and
confident. For students as well, they will know what to do in class, they
are able to know what to look forwards too and prepare physically and
mentally.
Based on all assessment, such as PBS, it would only focus on cognitive
side of educational domains. In the lesson, all lesson plan and teacher
must corporate all 3 domains which is cognitive, affective and
psychomotor. Each domains consist different level of Bloom Taxonomy.
It relates to objective also

because objective criteria must have a level of Bloom Taxonomy too.
We did a short exercise by creating a short story incorporating all of
Bloom's Taxonomy. Hence, in Bloom Taxonomy, we cannot jump or skip
a level to get to another level. It must be in oder.

We recap back on educational domains. All of the domains must be
balanced and each lesson must at least have all three.
In this lesson, I have learned on how to create the correct learning
objective based on the 4 criteria - ABCD. First is the audience(A) which
simplify to students only but it has fixed statement in the lesson plan
beforehand. What we should focus on is the next 3. B - behavior where it
is the first word to start the learning outcome, specifically the
verb/action word. Next is condition (C) where the requirement of the
students should achieve, not outside of the context. The requirement
must not include time because it can't be assessed through
time/speed. It must corporate in cognitive domain. Then lastly, degree
(D) where the teacher targets the amount/number that the students
should achieve in the outcome. However, the word 'at least' cannot be
use because the lesson plan already consists a section of differentiate
table for students' level of domains.
All of the criteria cannot be redundant and it need to be very specific so
it won't cause biasness in class. With that, we did an exercise to create
one learning objective using all of the criteria. There were words that
cannot be used, such as list (C), answer (D) and circle (D).

In this tutorial, we all prepared a lesson plan and let madam gives some
advise based on our objectives. There were a few errors given by my
peers and madam advise on re-struct the objective with the 4 criteria
which are ABCD.
It was kinda hard to construct an objective that need to achieve both
elements which are SMART and the ABCD. Even after trying to rephrase
the statement, it would still be lacking some elements. However, madam
has given us the website to use the verb word according to Bloom's
Taxonomy. It helps a lot to give options to write learning objective.

singing and dressing up.

Next is interest method. This can
help to get the students participate

For example, teacher can ask
questions like HOTs or funny
questions, share interesting facts,
let them talk about their interests

emphasize that we should prepared a lot in the future. Teaching aids is
the teacher's own effort to create or to find one to make the lesson more
meaningful and engaging to the students in classroom. That is one of
the role of teaching aids, it also develop student's creativity and
teaching process even easier.
There are types of teaching aids to counter teaching lesson in class,.
there are visual aids (actual objects, models, pictures, diodrama,
overhead projector), audio aids (radio, tape recorder, laptop, video-
audio), and audio-visual aids (TV, projector, YouTube, mini-hand
projector and flannel board/magnetic board.
As online classroom has been apply after Covid-19, there will be
chances that we will conduct online classes. So teaching aids for virtual
classroom can be found on various websites, such as pawtoon,

We were asked to bring all arts and stationery to tutorial for creating
teaching aids. Since madam was unavailable and Miss Angela help to
fill in but got another class to catch, we continue to do our teaching aids
in the library with the other groups. We manage to finish 80% of the
teaching aids and one of our group members brought it back and bring
it in for the next tutorial class.
With that, we discuss and did a leaflet consisting of all 3 activities in 1.
First activity is where the students have to guess the songs according to
the first few seconds of the song so they have to listen attentively. The
clues will be included in the pocket if the students didn't manage to
answer which consist of emojis. The next activity is the biggest board
game in the leaflet where it's a map for the students assigned to go.
Each group will have a different destination and for them to find where
their destination lies within the leaflet. Route will be given to them but
there will be no pictures or drawing that shows the place. All of us did
the teaching aids together with all of our ideas combine together.

For today's tutorial, madam has conducted an online class after
madam has meeting in the morning. Madam has given us a task
beforehand to demonstrate how we ask questions according to Bloom's
Taxonomy. We did the demonstration in group in which we ask different
'students' as our peers. Madam gave feedback on our demonstrations
and how it applies to each level of Bloom's Taxonomy. Each level has
different ways of asking and how we need to probe in case the answer
that we want did not answer by our students. We apply it and we did it
naturally, that were some compliments from madam on our
demonstration. We did participate with others asking questions and we
learn more from madam's feedback to each group.

For these 2 days, it was the due date of Project 1 with presentation. All
groups will have to create 5 lesson plans with 5 different teaching aids
to shows. All of the lesson plan must be connected and in the same
topic. The language skills will be different for all lesson plan. Our group
have presented on Thursday with first, snake and ladder board game,
infographic poster, fail case/floor plan, spinning wheel and a modal. All
of the group members have help each other to contribute to develop
the teaching aids. For the teaching aids, I have created house modal
with open air. It corporate with the poem 'What happen to Lulu?'. I am
proud of the outcome of the modal because a lot of hands have
contribute a lot in the making of it. Unfortunately, the lesson plan was
wrong and it does not connected with the rest of the lesson plan.
Other than us, we have given support to our peers with their creative
teaching aids.

In 2 weeks, all of the class time will be focused on mock teaching. Each
student will have a specific level of Form and what skills to implement in
the lesson plan. Teaching aids will be assessed too so the students must
create one to use in teaching.
After I've done my mock teaching, I come to class to support my friends
in their mock teaching. Since all good tips and feedback from madam
will be done after every mock teaching. So it's good to go to class and
listen to the feedback from madam. I have participated in my peer's
mock teaching since all presenters need 'students' in order to conduct a
lesson. However, I did not manage to come to class because of Covid-19
for one whole week but I am grateful that there was no lesson done. But I
managed to come to participate the mock teaching the day before to
get an idea of how to manage my lesson the next day.

Mock Teaching (Individual)

16 August 2022 (Tuesday)

For mock teaching, I was given Form 5 with reading skills to apply. I
have adapted of the infamous game called the 'Mafia game' with the
same concept of 'Among Us'. It took some time for me to brainstorm
what activity suitable with the requirement given to me. On the day of
mock teaching, there were some errors and for me, I did not deliver the
lesson well to the students. Since the mock teaching should only be 15
minutes, I have taken too much time to finish up everything.
But madam feedback has encouraged me to teach of how I cater the
classroom and doing the activity. However, i must stay professional as
a teacher. Overall I got a good compliment from madam. But the
marks if i have delivered the lesson well still not satisfy for me.

PROJECT 02

Task B: E-Portfolio

Task B in project 2 requires weekly reflection of the subject either
during lecture, tutorials or presentations. Reflecting all of the lesson
that has been done during this short semester has been so
meaningful and fruitful. I reflect on how I did during my mock
teaching and how I should be better at it and during each lesson, I
hope I really understand what has been taught by Madam Nirmala.
Being a teacher is not easy, but during the journey to become one
sure is exciting too. This portfolio can help as in a guideline during
our internship next semester, it can help to refresh our memory on
how we cater a few problems and issues, especially towards the kids
and teaching aids.
The platform I used to complete this E-portfolio is Canva. It has a lot
of templates and elements i can use to make this more interesting, it
is also easy to use.
