Overview of Programs

Janus Academy operates a school for students diagnosed with ASD
aged 6 to 18 years of age. Our program provides an individualized
approach to teaching for each student based on the science of Applied
Behaviour Analysis (ABA). The program provides a major emphasis in
three core areas; development of language and communication skills,
the expansion of learner skills and academics, and the development of
socially appropriate behaviour and classroom skills. Goals and
objectives for each student are designed to facilitate independence
and allow each student to grow and develop to their full potential.

Janus Academy provides programming to students who possess skills
across the autism spectrum. As student profiles differ significantly, we
have created different divisions within our program to target
individual needs and group cohesiveness. Janus Academy classrooms
are not formed by grades but rather by similar student profiles and
learning objectives. We endeavour to ensure that all students are
placed within a peer group that will provide them with the most
successful educational experience.

Low ratio Programs

The classroom structure in these programs are based on low teacher-
to-student ratios. Students who fit these classrooms demonstrate
independence in routines, following instructions, group learning skills,
etc.

High ratio Programs

The classroom structure in these programs are based on high teacher-
to-student ratios. Students who require direct instruction and
individual attention to meet their educational needs are placed in
these classrooms.

We Need Your Support

Janus Academy receives funding from Alberta Education. This funding
combined with tuition fees must still be off-set with fundraising
activities to cover the full costs of this intense form of
education. Along with foundation, corporate and private donations,
Janus coordinates a number of fundraising activities throughout the
year.

Parents who have children attending Janus Academy must sign a
Commitment to Fundraising Agreement to help fundraise through
these events each year.

It costs $45,000 to educate one student at
Janus Academy each year.

Governance

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is a volunteer group dedicated to our Mission,
Vision and Values and who provide exemplary governance in the
operations of Janus Academy Society. The Board of Directors helps
formulate policy, oversees the organizations financial affairs, and
selects, retains, and counsels the Executive Director.

Parent Advisory Council (PAC)

The PAC advises the school administration on operational matters, and
the chair of the PAC joins the Janus Academy Society's Board of
Directors as an ex-officio member.
