PROJECT MANAGEMENT
A major part of producing this product is project management. It is important that there is always someone
who is keeping track of all aspects of the product.
The project manger on this product was in charge of making sure that the product was going along
at a pace that was inline with the scheduled production plan and the Gantt chart. The project had a
budget of $200 and has come in well underbudget around $150. Being both the producer and the
project manager it was my own responsibility to work out issues as they arose and think of
innovative ways to use tools and materials to maximise production. Due to the lockdown in
Melbourne I was unable to get much help from people, that being the case I had help from my
teachers in ordering and cutting some material to length. I also had hep from one of my fathers
friends in thicknessing a the piece of Tasmanian hardwood from 19mm to 12mm. All of the other
work was carried out by myself and 95% of the decisions were carried out by myself as the
designer and run past the end user.
The description of project management skills have shown exactly what was expected to be completed and
was completed by the producer of this product.

ENDER USER FEEDBACK ON THE FINAL PRODUCT
This portion of the design folio is a place where the end user is able to give their opinion on how they feel about the
product.
The following is a statement form the end user, Alice Meehan.
-“The product that has been designed meets all of my needs extremely well. It has the ability to
store all of the items that I asked to be stored at the start of this folio. I am happy that the product
was able to come in under budget and all things considered with the lockdown in quite a timely
manner. I understand that this is a product that I could not just go out an buy so I was happy to
wait a few moths for such a personalised product. All of the options that were put forward to me
but I believe I chose the most appropriate one. The changes that I made in conjunction with Ted
along the way were worth it in my eyes.”

EVALUATION CRITERIA
The evaluation criteria was outlined in one of the very first stages of this design folio. It is a very good tool to be able to look
back upon and reflect on what has taken place over the entire project. To think about what has worked well and what has not
worked so well.

EVALUATION CRITERIA
The evaluation criteria has shown that we as a designer, producer and project manger have done a very good job in meeting the WOODGROVE Number
9 design factors outlined in the evaluation criteria. There are also a number of factors that we can work on if there were to be BANK
an occasion where we undertook this or a similar project in future.
PLACES FOR IMPROVEMENT
The places for improvement part of the design folio allows the produce and designer to evaluate their work at a personal level.
It is a place where they are able to ask themselves truly about what they feel work and did not work well.
Improvement Comment
Material sustainability The materials could have been more sustainable in my eyes. The use of all hardwoods does not make for
Functionality sustainable product although because it is such a small, unique product it is not a burden on the environment. All
Quality of the materials were sourced form sustainable plantations and there was very minimal waist of material.
Time and cost
Aesthetics The product functions are requested by the end user. Some things to note are that there is more function designs
out there but as far as one off, designer pieces go this box meets all of the criteria. A part of the brief given to me
was to build a product that was unique and that is what I have done.
The quality of this product is of a standard that can not be found on any jewellery box in this price bracket. The
dovetail joints were something that I did not have much experience with but they have turned out to be a defining
feature of the product.
The cost of this box I believe would be very competitive form all of the market research and existing product I
have seen. To be able to produce this box for under $150 is very important. The time that this box took to produce
was probably a little bit longer than I expected and would have liked but the results speak for themself.
The aesthetics of the box are very impressive in my opinion. The curve of the front does not steal the show away
from the jewellery but it tempts the user to open it and look inside. The contrast of the dovetails from the end grain
to the side grain.

PLACES FOR IMPROVEMENT
My personal evaluation:
I believe the design of the product is truly individual and special. I have not been able to find
anything remotely similar to this product though all of the market research that I did. The box has
all of the ability to store the items that I was tasked with whilst still being an original design. I
believe that the joinery methods used in this box all suited the design and were chosen because
they were the best fit of the application. My end user has expressed their gratitude for the product
that I have been able to deliver them and solving the issue they had identified in their life.
The places for improvement has been a great place for me to discuss how I feel about this product. It has shown what the
challenges and shortcomings of this folio were.

CARE LABEL
The final part of this design folio is a care label for this product. It is important that the product has ongoing care so that it
can last as long as possible. It is not expected that the end user will know what the product needs so tis label is in place to
help them.
