Guest of Honour

I congratulate the Sabah Women Entrepreneurs & Professionals Association (SWEPA) on the
occasion of your 14th Installation. I am happy to note that SWEPA has made many inroads not
only in leadership development but also contributed much to women development in
communities where SWEPA has reached out to. The incoming President, Puan Sitti Damsal will
inject youth and experience into SWEPA’s continuous journey to success.

Our transformation journey towards a developed nation must re ect a balance representation
in gender equality. The State Government’s support to SWEPA’s programmes in the past has
made it possible to forge ahead together in promoting shared prosperity and equal economic
opportunities in the industry. We are delighted to continue the good rapport with SWEPA.

Our economy has faced - and still faces - serious challenges and especially during the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic which
has impacted businesses and industries. Since its inception in 1994, SWEPA has been in the forefront of assisting the government in
many key roles towards empowering and inspiring women through various platforms which is in tandem with the State Government’s
aim to see greater women-driven initiatives. I applaud SWEPA’s initiatives.

SWEPA leaders have always carried out their duties with passion and tenacity, and they share a united and an unrelenting
commitment to make women roles stand out in entrepreneurship and leadership. I would like to see SWEPA venture into wider
economic clusters and explore business opportunities beyond our shores. The State Government values SWEPA’s contributions to the
state. Syabas to SWEPA for all your achievements.

On behalf of the State Government, I o er you warm wishes and every success in your endeavours.

Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor
Chief Minister of Sabah

Incoming President

Welcome to the SWEPA 14th Installation Ceremony 2021!

Greetings to all esteemed guests, SWEPA members along with all its a iliates to Sabah Nurses Association (SANA). I am extremely
relieved and pleased that despite the ongoing pandemic that has struck so many lives, we are still able to be together virtually via
SWEPA’s very rst online Installation Ceremony. This is a time of “Hope, Enlightenment, Aspiring & Love” (H.E.A.L), where we heal
together and rebuild, we must strive beyond our limits not just as a tagline but as an a irmation of what will pull us through this
journey together.

We are honoured to have Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Seri Panglima Hj Hajiji Mohd Noor, Chief Minister of Sabah, as our Guest of
Honour grace our Virtual Installation event celebrating and acknowledging the newly installed SWEPA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE for
year 2021-2023. Your continuous support towards SWEPA is greatly appreciated.

This term, as President, I will look ahead and continue to build our strengths and aim towards new directions. The executive
committee members and I will continue SWEPA’s Educational and Skill programs through Education, Training and Resources,
targeting especially at leveraging on SWEPA members personal certi cations, professional quali cations and skills which will
bene t our members by enhancing their profession in their respective elds. To achieve this goal, we will continue to build and
enhance our partnership with Federal and State governments, as well as Corporate and Private sectors.

The President’s tagline for the next two years is Strive Beyond Limits, and I hope to have the opportunity to work with everyone on
our various projects to break any limitations and explore new grounds. I believe all this can be achieved with our dedicated
executive committee members and all SWEPA members.

My sincere thanks to Immediate Past President Madam Lai Fui Nar for her continuous and excellent
support. She is both wise and calm and I am grateful that she has shared her wisdom generously
with me. She has contributed to SWEPA despite serving her term during the pandemic in the past
two challenging years. Kudos to Madam Lai Fui Nar and her team! I would also like to take this
opportunity to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to our Charter President and Past Presidents
for their guidance and advice along the way.

It would not be complete without saying THANK YOU to my Organising Chairlady, Madam Karen
Wong who is also my Vice President. You and your organising committee have been instrumental
in stitching everything together to ensure that our installation project and today’s event will be a
great success! Evidently, all the hard work and determination has paid o and I am truly grateful. It
has been quite a journey but with the superb commitment and active support from all of you, we
have achieved the objective of SWEPA 14th Installation 2021 and made it a reality.

A special thanks to all generous sponsors, advertisers, donors, without the support of people like
you, we would not be able to reach our goals. Last but not least, let’s all work together and strive
to create more opportunities for our members with pride, integrity and accountability!

Message from

Outgoing President 2021

It is my utmost pleasure to have this opportunity to pen this message for the 14th Installation of the Sabah Women Entrepreneurs and
Professionals Association (SWEPA). Having helmed the Presidency of one of the most recognised and prestigious women
organisations in Sabah from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2021, I truly value this once-in-a-life-time experience.

SWEPA is a respected and esteemed organisation and it is a demanding responsibility to keep her ag ying high. “In Tandem” was
my presidential theme, intending to balance the programmes and activities of SWEPA to bene t both the members as well as women
outside of SWEPA.

We were able to implement various meaningful programmes in spite of the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The 13th
Installation Dinner was as glamorous as previous occasions. It was graced by the Deputy Chief Minister and the delegations of the
Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW) of Taiwan and Malaysia, apart from members, friends, families and well-wishers.
We were entertained by the complimentary performance of the Hakka band San Geu Tai from Taiwan and the fashion show put
together by MOD House with our very own SWEPA members Anne Antah and Mary Jim.

Throughout the two-years, the Social Committee was able to organise a social trip to Tenom and several members gatherings in
conjunction with festive celebrations. The Knowledge Development Committee organised three trainings, one virtual talk and the
rst-ever SWEPA Training Camp. The Members' Development Committee provided opportunities to members to publicise their business
through the Biznet physically, through Whatsapp as well as on facebook. SWEPA managed to send the fourth Solar Mama to Barefoot
College in India. A ected by the pandemic, BSP 3.0 is pending the arrival of the solar equipment for installation at Kg. Paus. The
Enriche team was able to visit the villages in between the movement control orders. As usual, the SWEPA Toastmasters Club (STMC)
continued to shine with regular training meetings and consistently achieving President Distinguished Club status year after year.

SWEPA was honoured to be given the opportunity to organise the 6-months Wanita Empowered
Business Mentorship Program funded by the United States Embassy. SWEPA worked with 3R, the
Women Entrepreneurs & Professionals Association of Sarawak (WEPS) and the Penang Women
Chamber of Commerce (PWCC) to put together virtual training workshops, mentoring and
peer-sharing sessions, besides the O icial Launching, Meet & Greet and the International Women Day
(IWD) Celebration. The program culminated in the nale with Pitching, Awards Night and Forum in
Kuala Lumpur. The Closing was o iciated by His Excellency Ambassador.

I am deeply grateful for the contribution, dedication and support of each of the executive committee
who has worked diligently over the two years to keep SWEPA on the go despite the many challenges.
I appreciate the guidance and advice of my Immediate Past President Datuk Aminah Ambrose, Legal
Advisor Melanie Tann and the Past Presidents.

I am thankful for the opportunity to have served as the 14th President of SWEPA which has
enriched my life journey. This memorable experience is invaluable. I am happy to hand the
baton to Sitti B. Damsal and her capable committee to continue to bring SWEPA to scale new
heights. And to the 14th Installation Organising Committee headed by Karen Wong, kudos to
all the e ort and hard work in making this possible. Congratulations and all the best.

“A ray of hope, ickers in the sky, a tiny star, lights up way up high……
When duty calls, we are here to serve, SWEPA sisterhood never fail to guide….

With great leaders to lead, we learn to follow….
Portraying our roles in many multifold……”

Under the current COVID Pandemic, everyone is very skeptical, what will be coming next?

With a bold and broad thinking approach under the leadership of our new President Sitti Damsal, we came up with this bright
concept of breaking out of the norm of the history of SWEPA’s Installation Dinner. No Gala Dinner, No Grandstand Performers, No
VVIPs, just us and our community partners to witness the 14th Installation of the New Exco Lineup for year 2021-2023, in this simple,
yet elegant English garden high-tea setting.

It is a SWEPA Installation tradition that fundraising is a must…but how?

Capitalizing our members’ skills and abilities, we found that there are a great number of good chefs and specialized training
providers among our members. With a team of very committed Organising Committee, we rolled out our “Request for Proposal”
inviting our Members to submit their variety of dishes and training programs to us, after which, we incorporated them into 4
segments of packages to o er to our clients ranging from Government agencies, Corporates and GLC’s bodies.

This new business model was well received with many positive feedback from our clients. They were enthralled that SWEPA has
conceptualized such an innovative approach despite being in the pandemic situation. Moving forward, we truly believe that this
will be another way for SWEPA to strategize our business model to assist our members.

With a signi cant objective of contributing to community, this event will also raise funds to aid the Sabah Nurses Association in
which 80% of their members are women front-liners who have been providing their unfailing services to serve in hospitals
throughout Sabah all this while.

My salute and gratitude to my wonderful Organising Team for all their e ort, time, and sacri ces
in putting together our work plan to enable the smooth delivery of SWEPA’s H.E.A.L special
event. Even after today’s Installation procession, our committee will continue follow-up work
and progress in the supply & delivery of our Meal & Training packages.

We are also very grateful to have the support from Sabah’s Chief Minister, Y.A.B Datuk Seri
Panglima Haji Hajiji Bin Haji Noor together with other State Ministries and Agencies for their
valuable support and contributions in making our event a resounding success.

We thank you for gracing our auspicious ceremony today, be it virtually or physically and hope
you will enjoy what we have lined up for this afternoon.

YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE ...!

Sabah Nurses Association (SANA)

Sabah Nurses Association (SANA) was formed on the 8th June 1977 and
registered as a Society on the 17th January 1978. There were only 41 members
at that time. Present day, SANA has spread its wings to the other districts in
Sabah. It boasts of a stronghold of 10,000 members today. SANA
complements the Health Department of Sabah in promoting health literacy to
the communities, especially those in the rural areas. These are our main
objectives :

• To promote the advancement of nursing as a “profession”
• To improve the training of nurses at basic and post basic levels.
• To hold periodical meetings among members of the association

for educational and social purposes.

The concept of professionalism in nursing, according to the founder of SANA, Mr. Francis Yong, was still in its infancy
when SANA was formed. Professor Datuk Dr Bibi Florina Abdullah was the driving force behind professionalism in
nursing. She was at the helm then, being the Chief Nurse of Sabah. Professor Datuk Dr Bibi Florina Abdullah went on
to become Malaysia’s rst Director of Nursing (2004-2012). She was also the President of SANA at that time.
SANA has been most persistent in its struggle for a better representation, not just for its members but also for nurses in
the country in order to meet the patients’ expectation and nursing challenges..
In facing the Covid 19 pandemic SANA had donated some amount of PPEs to hospitals in April 2020. SANA , through
its retired members, had also volunteered at Wisma Wanita and Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC)
Vaccination Centres (PPV) to assist the nurses in the vaccination programme. SANA will continue to facilitate the
nurses and serve the community.
