Follow the instructions to edit a photograph to place the head of the
celebrity onto a different body.
Open Paint OR
Double click the Paint shortcut
or click Start – All Programs – Accessories –Paint.
Click on the Maximize () button to enlarge the window to full screen.
Open Celebrity Photo
Click the File menu and choose Open.
Go to the place where the celebrity photos were saved.
Select an image. Click Open.
Does the Image Need to be Resized? (Optional)
When the image opens students should be able to see the ENTIRE
picture on the screen. If they cannot, they need to resize it.
From the Image menu, click Stretch/Skew.
Type 50% in both the Horizontal and Vertical stretch boxes. Click OK.
Is the picture a good size? If the picture is still too large, reduce the size again by 50%.

Select the Head
Students will place the head of the celebrity onto the new body
image. To do this, they need to trace around just the head using
the Free-Form Select tool.
Click the Free-Form Select tool from the toolbox. or
Click and drag the mouse to create an outline around the head. Try to get as close to
the edges of the form as possible. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE PERFECT!
TIP: This must be done in one
motion. Caution students to take
their time to keep the mouse
movement under control!
When done, let go of the mouse button. A dotted box appears around the ENTIRE
PICTURE. DO NOT WORRY, THE SELECTION THAT WAS MADE IS STILL THERE!
Copy the Selection to a File
Students will save the selection as head. Then they insert
the head onto the new body image.
Click the Edit menu and select Copy To from the list.
Go to the place where work is saved.
In the File name: box, type head. Click Save.
DO NOT CLOSE MICROSOFT PAINT!
Open Picture of New Body Image TECHNOKIDS INC.
Click the File menu and select Open.
Go to the place where work is saved.
Click on the picture of the replacement body. Click Open.

Resize the "Head" Picture and then Move it into Place
Students need to resize and move the
head to place it onto the new body.
Place the mouse over the corner handle of the dotted outline.
When the mouse pointer changes to a two-way black arrow, click and drag to adjust the
size of the image – drag in to make it smaller – drag out to make it larger.
DO NOT CLICK OFF THE PICTURE YET!
Place the mouse over the center of the head. When the mouse pointer changes to a
four-way arrow, click and drag until the picture is placed onto the new body.
Students may need to resize the head again to get it just right!

Make it Look Real (Optional) or
Students may have some of the OLD background in the
picture. Color from part of the new body can be copied and
used to paint around the head.
Click the Magnifier tool. Click on the head to see it up close.
Click the Pick Color tool. or
Click on a piece of the background. THIS WILL COPY THE COLOR.
Click the Pencil tool or
or use the Brush tool. or
Click and drag the mouse to paint over parts of the OLD background.
Use the Magnifier options to zoom out to see the changes to the picture.

will be smaller, so it will look great!

Save the New Look
Click the File menu and select Save As.
Go to the place where work is saved.
In the File name: box, type body clinic.
Make sure that the file type is 24-bit Bitmap.
Click Save.

Assignment 4: Extreme Makeover – Hair Salon
In this activity, students visit a Makeover website to apply Hair Salon
makeup, style hair, and add accessories to the celebrity. Celebrity Makeover
STUDENTS MUST BE REGISTERED AT THE WEBSITE to use the
Makeover feature. You can pre-register your students or
have each person complete the registration form. Please
note that students must have an email account to register.
Students load a celebrity image into the Makeover
website. This image is then transformed using the on-screen
features such as makeup, hair, and accessories.
For example:

or click START – ALL PROGRAMS – INTERNET EXPLORER.
Access an Online Makeover Website
Click the Favorites Center.
Click the Celebrity Internet Favorites folder.
Expand the Makeover folder and choose an online makeover site.

Look at the site to find the link to a free makeover. Click it.
Click on the box that allows a photo to be uploaded.
Type in member name and password.

Position the face by placing the dots over the eyes. Click Next.
Follow the screen prompts to position the eyes and lips. Click Next.

Print the Screen to Copy the Celebrity Makeover
Students need to save a picture of the makeover so that they can
include it in the e-tabloid. The website does NOT let visitors save the
makeover picture as a file. To save a copy of the makeover, students
must click the PRINT SCREEN key on the keyboard. This will cause the
computer to take a picture of the ENTIRE WEB PAGE. This is called a
screen shot. Students will paste the screen shot into Microsoft Paint. They
will then select the picture of the celebrity. This selection will be saved as
a picture.

Click the PRT SCR (Print Screen) button on the keyboard.
Paste the Screen Shot into Microsoft Paint or
Double click the shortcut to Paint
or select All Programs – Accessories – Paint.
From the Edit menu, select Paste.
The whole image that was on

Assignment 5: Morph a Celebrity
In this assignment, students create a video that morphs the “old look” of the celebrity into
the “new look” using the FREE program FaceMorpher Lite.
Students choose a “before” photo of the celebrity from the
collection they saved from the Internet in Part 1. Ideally, this photo
should have the same orientation as the “after” or makeover
picture. If both images have the celebrity facing directly into
the camera, the morph video will be most effective.
The morph is saved as a movie file. It will be added to the e-tabloid in Part 3.
Open FaceMorpher Lite
Open FaceMorpher Lite.
Add Before and After Images
To add the “before” picture, click the first Open button.
Click Next.
Go to the location of the saved celebrity images. Select the celebrity image that will
show the “old look.” Click Open.
Draw a box around the head.
Drawing a box around the
head helps the program to
locate the position of the
face. This allows the software
to make a smooth transition
from one face to the other.

Click the Play button to watch the celebrity transform from the "old look" to the "new

Save the Morph
Click the File menu and choose Save Movie.
Go to the location where work is saved.
In the File name box, type morph. Confirm that the file type is AVI Movie (*avi).
Click Save.
Click OK.
Close FaceMorpher Lite
Close FaceMorpher by clicking the Close box.
When asked to save changes to the project, click No.
Tips:
Slow down the morph: If you think the morph is playing too fast, click the up
arrow beside Frames to increase the number. Try 40 and then adjust as
necessary.
Make fine adjustments manually: To line up facial features exactly, click
Manual Enhancement. Drag the small green nodes to resize and locate eyes,
nose, and mouth or face shape more accurately in either image.
Try Caricature Mode: To see a zany effect, click the Movie menu and choose
Caricature Mode. Click Play. If you want to keep the results, click Save
Movie... under the File menu.
Change the celebrity photo: If the morph is not smooth or you do not like the
results, try a different photo.

In this assignment, students add action buttons to the final slide. These controls allow viewers to

Assignment 8 Add Finishing Touches
In this assignment, students add finishing touches to the e-tabloid including custom animation
and transitions. Please note that timings and animation are NOT applied to the Comment Slide.
If time is an issue, this assignment can be omitted. Instead of the e-tabloid playing automatically,
students will click the mouse to advance each slide.

View the presentation to watch the animation.
Add a transition effect to the Title Slide, Celebrity Slide, and Before and After Slide. Set
the speed of the transition and the timing for when the slide advances.

Choose a Design Template
From the Format menu, select Slide Design.
Look at the designs in the task pane.
Choose a design by clicking on it.
Make the Celebrity Slide
Students create a slide that includes information about the celebrity.
Basic facts such as name, age or birthday, residence, profession,
marital or dating status, and the person’s “claim to fame” are written
into a bulleted list. A picture of the celebrity is placed onto the slide.
Insert a New Slide
From the Insert menu, select New Slide.
From the task pane, click on the layout Title, Text, and Content.
Click the mouse in the title placeholder and type the Celebrity Name.

Click the mouse in the left placeholder. Type in facts about the celebrity.
Press ENTER after each line is added.

Go to location where the images of the celebrity were saved.
Select one of the “before” pictures of the celebrity.
Click Insert.
Adjust Picture Size (Optional)
Move the mouse pointer over one of the corner sizing handles on the image.
Click and drag outwards to make the image larger or inwards to make the image
smaller.

Add the Morphing Video to a Slide
Students create a slide which contains the morph video that shows
the celebrity transforming from their “old look” to their “new look”.
Create a Before and After Slide
From the Insert menu, select New Slide.
From the task pane, click on the layout Title Only.
Click the mouse in the title placeholder and type Before and After.
Insert Movie File
From the Insert menu, select Movies and Sounds. Select Movie from File.
Go to the location of the morph video. Select the video and then click OK.
When prompted, click Automatically to have the movie start automatically in the slide
show.

Create the Comment Slide
The last slide is a comment slide. It has a text box that allows viewers
to write their feedback about the makeover while the presentation is
in slide show mode.
Add a New Title and Content Slide
From the Insert menu, select New Slide.
From the task pane, click on the layout Title Only.
Click the mouse in the title placeholder and type What do you think?
Add a Text Box Control
From the View menu, select Toolbars. Select Control Toolbox.
Click the Text Box tool.
When the cursor changes into a crosshair, draw a box below the title.
This is the box in which
viewers will write their
comments.
Leave some space at the
bottom for instructions and
the End and Replay
buttons.

Modify Text Box Properties
With the text box still selected, click Properties on the Control Toolbox.
Changes need to be
made to allow viewers to
type comments into the
box when the presentation
is in Slide Show mode.
Adjust the settings:
o Click the EnterKeyBehavior row to reveal the drop down arrow. Click the arrow to
change False to True.
o Click the arrow to change the MultiLine value to True.
o In the Value row, type directions to the viewer, for example: Add your comments
here…
Click the X in the top right corner of the Properties window.
The viewer directions appear,
but you cannot type directly
into the text box. When the
presentation is in Slide Show
mode, comments can be
typed into the box.
Add Viewer Instructions
Click the Text Box tool on the Drawing Toolbar.
Click and drag to draw a text box below the comment box.
Add the text Click at the end of the last comment and press ENTER, then add your own
comments.

View the Presentation
It is time to test the presentation and make sure everything is working
properly.
Click slide 1 in the Outline Pane, or press the PAGE UP key until slide 1 is in view.
From the Slide Show menu, select View Show.
Click the mouse to advance to the next slide.
When the Comment Slide appears, add text into the box to “test” this feature.
Press ENTER twice to start
the first comment and
separate it from the line of
instructions.
Press the ESCAPE key to exit Slide Show mode.
Save the E-Tabloid
From the File menu, select Save.
Go to the location where work is saved.
The file name Magazine Name should already be in place as the program selects the first
word in the presentation. If not, change the file name to Magazine Name.
Click Save.

Click the Close button (X) to exit the program.

In this assignment, students add action buttons to the last slide. These
controls allow viewers to "End" or "Replay" the presentation quickly and
easily.
Open the Saved E-Tabloid in Microsoft PowerPoint
Open Microsoft PowerPoint.
From the File menu, select Open.
Go to the location where work is saved.
Select Magazine Name and then click Open.
Go to the Comment Slide
Click the PAGE DOWN key until the Comment Slide comes into view.
Add the “Replay” Action Button
From the Slide Show menu, select Action Buttons. Select Action Button: Beginning.
Click and drag to draw a button.
When the Action Settings dialog box opens, check to see if the Hyperlink to option is set
to First Slide. Click OK.

Assignment 8: Add Finishing Touches
Students add finishing touches to the e-tabloid. These
include:

Open the Saved E-Tabloid in Microsoft PowerPoint
Open Microsoft PowerPoint.
From the File menu, select Open.
Go to the location where work is saved.
Select Magazine Name and then click Open.
Add an Entrance Animation Effect to a Slide Object on the Title Slide
Students will animate slide objects. They should think about the
order that each object should appear on the screen. For
example, on the title slide the Magazine Name should appear
first, with the article name appearing second.
Students SHOULD NOT animate the comment box or action
buttons on the slide 4 Comment Slide.
Make sure that students are looking at slide 1.
Select the object on the slide that should be animated first.
From the Slide Show menu, click Custom Animation.
Click Add Effect.

From its menu, point to Entrance.
Click on an animation in the list to apply it to the object.

Click More Effects to see more choices. When students find one they like, click OK.
– A number appears beside the animated object on the slide and the animation appears
in the Custom Animation pane.
Click Play to review the animation.
If students don’t like it, they can click Change and choose another animation.
If students want to delete the animation, click Remove.

Modify the Animation Effect on the Title Slide
Students can change when an animation starts, the direction it moves,
and the speed of the effect. Customize the animation.
In Custom Animation pane, click on the animated title to select it.
Set When the Animation Starts
In the Start area, "On Click" is selected. Click the arrow and choose After Previous.
Set the Direction of an Effect
In the Direction area, click the arrow and choose from the directions or zoom available.
TIP: This option is only available
for some animation effects.
Set the Speed of an Effect
In the Speed area, click the arrow and choose from Very Slow, Slow, Medium, Fast, and
Very Fast.

Animate the Objects on the Celebrity and Before and After Slides
Students must apply their knowledge to animate the remaining slide
objects. Below are some tips:
The sequence objects appearing on the slide is important. For
example, a title should appear before the text on the slide.
Not all objects need to be animated.
The title on the Before and After slide should appear before the
video. Change the order of effects using the Re-Order arrows.
DO NOT ANIMATE ANY OBJECTS ON THE COMMENT SLIDE
How to Change the Order of Effects
In Custom Animation pane click on an animation that needs to be moved.
Click the Re-Order up or down arrows to change the order of the effect.
Watch the Animation
Click slide 1 in the Outline Pane, or press the PAGE UP key until slide 1 is in view.
From the Slide Show menu, select View Show.
Click the mouse to advance to the next slide.
Click the End Show action button when the Comment Slide is displayed.

Add a Transition Effect between Slides
A transition is an effect that is added between slides. It is a great way
to break up the action. As well, transitions settings can be customized
to force a slide show to play automatically. Have students follow the
instructions to add transitions to the Title Slide, Celebrity Slide, and
Before and After Slide. DO NOT ADD A TRANSITION TO THE COMMENT
SLIDE.
Make sure that students are looking at slide 1.
Pick a Transition for the Title Slide
Select slide 1 in the Outline Pane.
From the Slide Show menu, select Slide Transition.
View the transitions in the task pane. Click on a transition effect to add it to the slide.
Adjust the Speed of the Transition on the Title Slide
In the Modify transition area, click the arrow beside Speed.
Choose from Slow, Medium, or Fast.
Set the Timing for When the Slide Advances to the Next Slide
In the Advance slide area, remove the check beside On Mouse Click.

Click slide 1 in the Outline Pane, or press the PAGE UP key until slide 1 is in view.
From the Slide Show menu, select View Show. The show should automatically play.

Teaching Strategy
In this part, students share their presentations with each other and solicit comments about the
makeover in the e-tabloid. Explain scenario to students.
The time is now! Fans cannot wait any longer. They want to read all about
their favorite celebrities. The article is published. What do the fans think of
the EXTREME new look?
Find out how fans reacted to the celebrity's makeover by reading their
comments and opinions.

Assignment 9 Fan Reaction to the New Look
In this assignment, students view the EXTREME makeover articles. They offer their comments
about the “new look” on the final slide.
It is suggested that students rotate around the room beginning with the workstation to their right.
Students view the presentation and add a short comment on the last slide, then after an allotted
amount of time they move to the next workstation and view the next show. Ideally, students
should be able to view all slide shows.
Afterwards, students return to their seats to read the reviews. Is the new look a success?

Open the Saved E-Tabloid in Microsoft PowerPoint
Open Microsoft PowerPoint.
From the File menu, select Open.
Go to the location where work is saved.
Select Magazine Name and then click Open.
HAVE STUDENTS GO TO THE WORKSTATION TO THEIR RIGHT.
View E-Tabloids
From the Slide Show menu, select View Show.
