my FAVORITE BOOK
SUMMARY: SIX CRIMSON CRANES What more is there to say? This book has dragons, mouthwatering-sounding food, and most importantly, magic. The magic alone piqued my interest in the novel, but even though magic was present throughout, it is uncommon for people to possess it. If they do, they will be severely punished if they are discovered using or learning it. But what kind of danger would the emperor's darling daughter get herself into if she were to acquire magical powers? As intriguing as the title seems before I start, hello and a good morning to everybody my name is Baseerah binti Hafiz Gadafi from SMK Seri Nibong, PEA4003 and the book I'll be reviewing is The Six Crimson Cranes, a fantasy fiction novel created by the exceptional author Elizabeth Lim. Kiata, a faraway kingdom at sea, is home to an enchanting princess named Shiori. While she is a beautiful princess, as are most princesses, what distinguishes her is her adventurous, mischievous, always up to no good demeanor; nevertheless, given that she is the emperor's youngest child and the only daughter to six sons, she usually gets her way. Growing up as Kiata's only princess, she is frequently doted on with love and affection, but despite all of this attention, there is one person who does not adore her as much as the others, and that person is her stepmother Raikama. The story begins with the helpless princess drowning in the cold river, but how did the adored princess wind up in the river in the first place? It appears that stubborn princess Shiori was unhappy with her engagement, which led to her irrational action, but as punishment for her rash behavior, she was asked to weave an embroidery for her fiancé's family as an apology. Shiori soon became skeptical of her stepmother Raikama's sorcery while weaving the embroidery, but with no one to believe her, she could only hide her suspicions, which intensified with each passing day. Soon enough, her stepmother Raikama was caught for casting magical spells, prompting Shiori to summon her brothers to catch her stepmother in action. While she was able to successfully prove her suspicions, they were unaware of the curse their stepmother intended to imply, but it was too late to act, and they were all cursed.
The princess of Kiata had everything from a glorious life to being the center of attention in the kingdoms' eyes, but the curse placed on her rendered her unrecognizable. Not only did the curse alter her appearance and take away her voice, but it also changed her once cheerful personality to a gloomy one. As bad as it appears, it gets worse because it appears that all six of her brothers were cursed as crane. Shiori began to feel guilty after being cursed by her stepmother because she believes the core of her brothers' curse was caused by her carelessness, and as a result, she vowed to release the curse and confront their stepmother. Furthermore, the princess of Kiata faced numerous problems and difficulties, but she was able to overcome them for the sake of her brothers. However, while conquering challenges to reverse her stepmother's curse, she encounters a dragon prince along the way who assists her in achieving her goal. However, when dealing with another challenge, she runs across the person she ran away from at the start of the novel, her fiancée. Overall, the story was an absolute pleasure to read especially with its unexpected plot twists and distinctive characters that are difficult not to admire and while there are numerous reasons why I enjoy this novel, the main one is that, despite the significant changes brought about by her stepmother's curse, she was able to demonstrate that even when the princess thought she had lost everything, she found hope in hopelessness and pushed herself to become a recognized, brave princess which made her even stronger. Throughout the book, she demonstrated incredible strength and drive to break the curse so that she might free her brothers and restore everything to its former state. While on her journey, she begins to realize the simple things she had always overlooked when she was the emperor's careless princess, and most importantly, she placed the ones she loved first and never once gave up on them, even if it meant making sacrifices. Thisbook is highly suggested to anyone who is interested in exploring new books, but it is especially recommended to people who enjoy fantasy novels.
