INTRODUCTION
This study attempts to analyze and critically examine which group of
culture audience are using Tik Tok as a means of new media
technologies to promote their contemporary dancing, a popular
subculture shaping their constructive identities and everyday life and
what are their intended value, behaviour and attitude? Followed by an
investigation structure based on ethnography theories and what are the
other people’s perception towards this culture under the Global Flow?
The intended value of Nepaliese Youths is to get internet fame by uploading their
contemporary dance videos as their behaviours on Tik Tok, a creative, collaborative,
global and unique video-sharing social media networking, connecting with the other
parts of the world users. Their attitude is to create a new culture among its members and
get accepted or be recognised within the cultural strangers as through TikTok as an
Asian Media Communication Technology, we can spread and taste the culture through
global flow, also known as globalisation which spreads and makes people aware about a
certain culture.
METHODOLOGY
Our methodology for this project was first to conduct information gathering on Nepali
Tik Tok technique on YouTube, Official Tik Tok App platform and Tik Tok Videos on
Instagram and later breaking it into a Nepali culture which is contemporary dancing.
We will be carrying out our research in the form of autoethnography - an approach to
study Tik Tok and user’s comments on the owner’s Tik Tok videos, a digital
communication, an online space. As a researcher we are trying to observe the
participants in their natural environment and describe our cultural experience on why
we had that certain reaction to it.
For YouTube, we will be studying the user’s comments towards this Nepali
Contemporary dancing culture whether there are positive or negative comments, are
there any sexual or any shame or stigma attached behind those comments before we
give our own experience through auto ethnography by asking ourselves why did the user
feel this way? How do we feel towards this subculture and Why? What were our
viewpoints and perspectives?
1
HYPOTHESIS
Our hypothesis as a proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as of
now and as a starting point for further investigation is that the world is compressed
under globalization and through this there is a global flow of culture in which Tik Tok
has become a popular culture production in which people are showing and developing
their talent in which hows it being viewed and perceived. And now it is a high culture to
consume this media platform, making it a typical platform to create culture as under
cultural globalization, the culture circulates and because of this we can interact and
integrate more easily with the other cultural groups or strangers and we have to
understand and read the local culture group happenings by production of events (i.e.
dancing, lifestyle and belief) from many miles away. This helps us to reflect and
understand what the local culture is through the global media flow (i.e. Tik Tok).

ANALYSIS
Based on my observation and using the ethnography
beliefs and values, I see Nepali Tik Tok has a
mainstream dancing culture with dynamic dance steps
often involving hand movements forming a culture. I
am assuming that this contemporary dance is their
lifestyle and values.
They are also promoting their dancing culture group
through Tik Tok by encouraging users to imitate their
dance moves as a challenge with the help of hashtags,
making it an Internet trend. Through this, there is a
formation of global culture because people are
integrating with the local culture and having
widespread consumerism. Further creating a greater
influence on people to take part and learn Nepali dance culture as their art belief and
lifestyle all due to the rapid development of Tik Tok - an asian media technology
promoting the spread, interaction, integration and creation of culture under the global
flow. Leading to cultural heterogeneity inspiring a new culture on the cultural strangers
so that they can reinterpret the foreign culture and perceive in a positive manner by
further accepting and enriching the culture of Nepali Dancing so they could integrate or
add new elements to the local cultures. To me, this encourages cultural innovation and
inspires new culture.
As an auto ethnography, I was exposed to this new and different culture than mine and
how do I identify and interpret this foreign culture in their own way is by reading the
details of the video. In the Tik Tok Dance, the women was not wearing casual attire, she
was wearing a kurta-suruwal (a traditional clothing for women) to establish her urban
area lifestyle and values. This helps to understand the culture that still exists in the
modern days and may influence us or other people to try the culture in terms of the
clothing style.
As a Hong Kong Chinese student, I found this Tik Tok culture quite enthusiastic because
this group of cultural members are performing the dance according to the tunes and
rhythm, not doing it randomly. This makes me have a critical analysis that they really
want to perform and show their talent and would really like to participate and have their
5
self-expression dance moves to give a more three-dimensional and realistic expression
of urban historical features and urban impressions. Take vibrato as an example. If it is a
video shot by Nepalese, they will use Nepalese popular music as the soundtrack of the
video. They will wear Nepalese traditional costumes and perform Nepalese traditional
dances. There will also be Nepalese buildings in the video. After watching these videos,
people in other countries can learn about the historical features of Nepal and deepen the
impression of people in other countries on this country or city.
My group member perceives this Nepali Tik Tok Dancing as positive. He was not
surprised that Many Urban Nepaliese who have access to smartphones are now trying to
be an influencer by creating contents, spreading their talents, values on the Tik Tok
culture in hopes of finding attention and stardom or being a celebrity and further change
the society’s beliefs and attitudes towards Internet Fame, in which people could be
known for or even be recognised. To support this claim, Tik Tok has become a set of
culture as a shared norm for Nepaliese since they use Tok Tok as a way to express
themselves through creating and sharing dancing videos syncing with the music rhythm,
Thus, it has become a collection of shared symbols, signs and beliefs (Tik Tok Videos as a
material production) which is manipulating in their daily lives.
To further understand and interpret this qualitative data as a concept of how does the
use of Tik Tok affect Nepaliese people’s fame? We will be using ethnographic research, as
an attempt to actually understand what is happening and seeing what implications could
be formed. For instance, according to an article by Khadgi (2019), it was reported that
one psychologist stated “Young Nepaliese are flocking to Tik Tok for an instant fame
where there is a growing global audience you have never interacted with before are
suddenly engaging in your work, is one of the reasons Nepaliese are obsessed with it.”
Since, they are being validated for their work by promoting themselves under this
context and more people would be finding out about their skills and talent which is good
because as human beings, we love getting attention and reward which is good for one’s
mental health and could further motivate people and gain fame through realistic
portrayal Tik Tok, further changing a person’s aspect of life. As a result, this explains and
interprets everything and its behaviour of Young Nepalis using Tik Tok Videos.
As a former Social Sciences Indian Student being an etic perspective towards a particular
social group being studied so that they are not being left out. An approach to explain the
social realities through theoretical observation and having a conscious mind makes me
6
to comprises my thoughts, memories, and emotions, it is essential to understand and
interpret the meaning to the cultural strangers why there is this trend of creating
Nepalese Dance Tik Tok and tuning with the music rhythm through imitating or
mimicking as part of their talent and being shared viral globally. It has become quite
popular in Urban Nepal and the reason I am assuming is because it gives the user an
opportunity to connect with the same cultural group and challenging them through the
dance or even introduce this culture to the cultural strangers. I personally think it is
important to break the isolation because youths nowadays are having and showcasing
different talents and inputting creative value on themselves which are not conventional
has to be recognized in the modern society counterparts. It must be recognized and to be
seen among more people who are not aware or are unknown to this culture (cultural
strangers). Since, it helps to establish a person’s identity and continuity through social
media emerging trends under the era of Information technology.
The youths are being independent by
pursuing individualism and not bowing or
conforming to historical social norms. It is
probably valid because I think when users
see a new trending song, he or she would
experience an epiphany response especially
if they keep seeing or listening mostly they
will have an imaginative thoughts by
dancing to the music content tunes or
rhythm as part of self-expression, further
influencing the cognitive thinking. A process by which Tik Tok users may acquire
knowledge through experience, thought and sensory input. When a Tik Tok user uses
this cognition to create an understanding, it takes a person to dramaturgy aspects into
the real life, we may conceive that mostly we remember the face and the attitudes or
expression, not the context.
7
Upon reading and analyzing the videos both verbal and
visual as part of qualitative research tool, I have noticed and
observed that Nepalese youths who create Dancing Tik Tok
contents or productions by performing dance to its’ iconic
music beats based on the different music genre are trying to
express themselves through their emotional behavioral
further stimulating one’s personality. They are trying to
appeal to the society that they are best in expressing in media
technologies for social validation since they are finding a
parallel space to express themselves.
To conclude, Tik Tok is a great way to understand complex human behavior in different
social contexts, it does not only help the researcher but also the cultural strangers to
understand the culture and seeing similarities and differences in it.
My Group member as a Pakistani student, she watched the Top Tik Tok videos of Nepali
Tik Tokers 2019 which has out 9k views with 200+
With only about 3 comments which were “Nice” for each comment. And the videos were
not only the traditional Nepalese songs but had hindi songs as well. So, the Nepalese
people are into Tik Tok and it is getting more popular day by day but it is not all
traditional.
As an interpretation suggested from limited evidence so far and as a point of departure
for further study, it is that globalization compresses the environment and thereby a
global culture flow has been developed in which Tik Tok is a popular culture production
where people are showing and improving their talents as to how they can be presented
and interpreted.
And now it is a high culture to use this media platform and to become a standard
medium for cultural development as the world circulates through economic
globalization, which makes it easier for us to communicate and connect with other
cultural groups or aliens and to comprehend and interpret activities of local cultural
communities by output of events (e.g. music, lifestyle and faith). This lets one focus on
the local culture through the global media movement and to recognize what the local
culture is (Tik Tok).
8
I see that Nepali Tik Tok has a mainstream dance culture
with dynamic dance phases often involving hand
movements forming a culture based upon my observation
and the use of ethnographic belief and values. I suppose that
their culture and beliefs are this modern dance.
Via Tik Tok, they invite people to follow their dance gestures
as a challenge by using Hashtags and making it into an
Internet trend. Through this, a regional society is created as
individuals become absorbed into local culture and are
widely consumed. However, Nepali dance culture can be
brought into play and studied as a consequence of the rapid
development of Tik Tok, the Asian media technology that
facilitates the global flow of cultural diffusion, engagement,
incorporation and creation.
This contributes to cultural complexity, encouraging new communities of the global
cultural citizens to reinterpret and understand international communities in a positive
way by further embracing and enriching Nepalese dancing community, so that they can
absorb or connect to local cultures. This encourages intellectual creativity and stimulates
fresh community for me.
As an auto ethnography, I have been introduced to this modern world and society, and
by reading information on the video how I personally classify and understand this
foreign community. In the dance of Tik Tok people had no casual dress and wore a kurta
suruwal (a typically women's clothing) to describe their lifestyle and beliefs in the urban
areas. It leads to recognizing the society that still persists today and will motivate one or
anyone to pursue fashion with respect to the type of clothes.
I consider this Tik Tok community very excited as the dance is performed according to
patterns and rhythms by this collective of cultural participants, rather than by accident.
This offers me the objective evaluation that they really want to act to display their skills
and that they really want to engage and engage in their dance experiences in order to
give local historical elements and cultural perceptions a more 3D and practical voice.
Take the example of vibrato. We would use famous Nepalese music as the video's
soundtrack because it's a video taken by nepaleses. We sport typical Nepalese outfits and
watch typical Nepalese dances. Nepalese buildings would also appear in the film. After
looking at these images, you can know about Nepal's historic features in other countries
9
and deepen the impression of other citizens in this country or region.
Many urban Nepalese who have exposure to their mobile now seek to be influencers by
making material, transmitting their skills and ideals on Tik Tok web, in the hope of being
a star and gaining popularity and transforming the views and perceptions of society to
the Internet Fame, which might make people aware and even remembered.
Tik Tok has now become an existing tradition for Nepalese people to support this
assertion, as they use Tok Tok as a means of speech by producing and sharing dancing
videos synchronizing with music rhythm, thus rendering it a set of traditional icons,
signs and beliefs (Tik Tok Videos as a content production) that exploit in their daily lives.
To explain these qualitative details better and consider them as an indication of how the
usage of Tik Tok influence the image of the Nepalese people? We are trying to use
ethnographic analysis to better understand what is going on and to see what implications
can be generated.
Young Nepalese migrate to Tik Tok for instant attention, where there is an increasing
global audience for which they have never connected, sooner or later are unexpectedly
engaged in their jobs. As the research is justified through selling itself in this way and
more people hear about the talents and abilities which are nice, as we enjoy being cared
for and valued as human beings we are perfect for psychologically stable persons and
who might inspire and render us better known through a practical image of Tik Tok and
improve the dimension of existence for a person more. As a consequence, everything
and its actions in young Nepalis are clarified and described using Tik Tok images.
An attempt to describe the social realities by analytical insight and a aware mind helps
me to see the significance of my thoughts, experiences and feelings and to see and see
why Nepaleses make Tik Tok Dance, and adjust it to the rhythm through imitating or
imitating it as a part of their ability and selves.
It is very common in Urban Nepal and I believe that it offers users an opportunity to
interact and question the same cultural community by dancing or by bringing this
culture to the cultural strangers.
Honestly, I feel it is necessary to crack the insulation because young people today have
specific abilities to build innovative opportunities for themselves which are not
traditional. Many citizens who are unaware of this society (cultural strangers) must
know it and be recognized. Throughout the era of digital technologies, it helps to
10
establish the image and integrity of one individual via social networking.
The youth are critical of individualism and do not bend or adhere to traditional societal
norms. It is probably true because I believe that when users see a new trending album,
they will experience epiphany, particularly if they continue to see or to listen, often
through dancing to the music's material stories or rhythms, affecting their cognitive
thought.
A mechanism by which users of Tik Tok may learn information by practice,
contemplation and sensory feedback. If a consumer of Tik Tok utilizes the experience to
construct an interpretation, an individual brings dramatic things into real life. They
should think about the way the much of the time, they recall the picture, actions or
gestures, not the meaning.
I found and observed that Nepalese young people, who produce Dancing Tik Tok
material or produces in dances to their iconic music beats focused on various music
styles, attempt to manifest themselves more effectively through their emotional actions,
through activating one's personality, while reading and evaluating videos as part of the
qualitative investigative device. They seek to cater to the community, because they find
parallel space to articulate themselves through media technology, to be publicly
accepted.
In conclusion, Tik Tok allows not only scholars, but also ordinary citizens to consider
society in a variety of various social settings, seeing similarities and variations.
As a Hong Kong Local Student, Before I started this project, I had never been in contact
with TikTok. After I started this project, I found that TikTok is not only an entertainment
platform, but also helps people from different countries to show their culture to others. ,
Tik Tok lets more people recognize the culture of their country. Our topic is TikTok, such
as Nepali Dancing Videos. I think we can get into the culture through reading Tik Tok
Dancing Videos.
Nepali Tik Tok Dancing Videos, creators will add music to their videos. I found that the
most common music is Nepali traditional music. Watching Nepali Tik Tok Dancing
Videos aroused my interest in Nepali culture. In order to learn more about Nepali
culture, I did some research that Nepali traditional music is relatively simple, melody
and lyrics relatively simple and repetitive, easy to sing and remember, it also makes
these music can be passed onto future generations. The instruments used to interpret
Nepali traditional music are mostly Sarangi, Xiao and double-sided drums. Sarangi, Xiao
11
and double-sided drums are traditional Nepali musical instruments. Nepalese lives are
simple and simple. The traditional Nepalese music and their lyrics mostly describe the
magnificence of nature, and the things that are encountered in daily life such as love,
farming and child rearing, the names and deeds of Hindu deities such as Brahma, Vishnu
and Shiva. Often appear in Nepali traditional music and their lyrics.
Nepali Tik Tok Dancing Videos, The users will wear their traditional costumes, the
traditional apparel worn by the Nepali people are the Daura-Suruwalfor men and
Gunyo-Cholo for women. Dhoti and lungi are also worn by men, and sarees and kurta-
suruwal by women. This made me see their traditional costumes. I think the traditional
Nepalese costumes are very complicated, because they need to wear a lot of accessories.
Some of the accessories look very heavy. I think the sarees in Nepal’s traditional
costumes are beautiful, it has a lot of embroidery on it, and the craftsmanship is very
meticulous.
When I am watching the video, I think Nepali Tik Tok Dancing Videos aroused my
interest in Nepali culture and tradition, the dance movements are usually by folding
their hands. I feel that it is very novel. After watching Nepali Tik Tok Dancing Videos will
let me want to know more about Nepali culture and tradition. I will do some research
about Nepali culture and tradition. I think it is the way for Nepalese to promote their
culture and tradition. Because when some people do not understand Nepali culture and
tradition, they watch Nepali Tik Tok Dancing Videos, videos are no longer just
12
entertainment videos. Some unknown and unfamiliar things will cause people's
curiosity, so I think it will cause their curiosity and inquisitiveness. They will pay
attention to Nepali culture and tradition. In Nepalese to promote their culture and
tradition.
I find this project quite enjoyable about this experience because I have learnt a lot about
Nepalese culture and tradition through Nepali Tik Tok Dancing Videos. I used to know
the culture of a country through books, text or travel to those countries, and learn about
a country through videos culture and tradition, this method is very new to me. In future,
in addition to learning about the culture and traditions of a country through travel and
reading, I will try again to understand the culture and traditions of a country in a similar
way.
CONCLUSION
Throughout our process of personal discovery of this Tik Tok Culture, is that it enables
people to to let their imagination run wild and set their expressions free
receive instant feedback and awards in the form of likes, shares or comments, which
gives them a sense of being involved in such digital platforms for a long time. As
Nepaliese people who post or upload their contemporary dancing video on this social
media platform are not only seeking validation but also seeking approval for themselves,
so they feel good about themselves and more about their abilities.
And today, a lot of Nepaliese millenials are obsessed with the growing global audience in
which they have never interacted before. It allows these people to be creative and
imaginative. Since Nepaliese Tik Tok users who are dancing and also doing lip-sync of
the music lyrics. It also provides the users with the tools necessary to edit and arrange
them. This shows that Tik Tok offers a wide and simple set of editing possibilities,
creative and spectacular AR filters and a large sound and music library, even while the
shape may be the same.
In Nepal, the Google Play trends most and is home to many Nepalese users, many of
which have collected hundreds of thousands of follow-ups from fans. Such participants
not only furnished a room to support local Nepalese content for an international public,
but also recognized the web as a forum to counter all viral and social media movements.
13
TikTok may come out at first as a "cringy," especially if you are an adult, but it is a bit
odd.
TikTok creates the participatory community most well-known among young people on
the internet. Users will duet on the device and in return you can invite other users to the
material, which makes you feel like part of the community. Although TikTokers can post
unique sounds by themselves, users can also create their own videos using each other's
sound clips. It helps to create virality and involvement. One trend was recently
developed for the song Saani Na Risauna by Buddha Lama by the Nepali TikTok dancing
duo @pradeepthenext and @biju. The pair was able to pioneer a unique dance move on
the chorus of the song by getting people to copy their move in India, Australia and Nepal.
