NBL have created a perfect storm in the sport. New junior player numbers are

through the roof and more importantly, it seems like those boys and girls are


sticking with it.

Coming off a hugely successful 2021, NW Thunder Basketball have unfinished

business. An interrupted campaign found us ending the season on top of the

Southern Conference ladder but without the chance to play finals and with a


hunger for more.

After taking over the role as President in 2021, my first priority was to ensure that

we maintained a great culture while creating a really solid pathway and


connections in our local area. As a board we are taking a fresh look at what we

want to achieve on and off the court, and the future looks bright.

Under the careful watch of Head Coach Nick Haywood, the exciting list of

talented players are preparing to put in the hard work and hit the court with

intent. The bar will be set high, and we will push to get the results on both the


scoreboard and in our community.

To have a significant impact we need the support of businesses just like yours.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR COACH

This 2022 season is going to be extremely different from

last year, and I am equally as excited to coach this group

of men. We have been super impressed with the young


guns they have been training along with the more

experienced players in Joel Beveridge, Cam Brown, Ben


Woolley and Brady Armstrong.



I recruited two high character players with great basketball

IQ and work ethic in Sean MacDonald and KaVaughn

Scott. And with a couple of puzzle pieces to come, I am

pumped to see what we can put together.


What I do know is that we will represent the North West

Coast with passion, discipline, energy and a love for the
game that will take people along for a ride with us.

COMMUNITY

The North West Tasmania Thunder Basketball Club has a strong and
historic sense of community to the region with attendances of 800 -
1250 at any home game. Community engagement is an important part
of the wellbeing of people and the Club strives to add value to the
community through a variety of activities during the year.

In recognizing that the competitive sport will be exhilarating for
spectators, the core purpose of community clubs such as ours should be
to inspire the wider population to become active and adopt healthy
lifestyle choices through either organized sports or personal pursuits
that instil fitness and wellbeing.

We also provide a pathway for our local players to aspire
to. Over the past decade we have seen North West
Thunder players make it to the National Basketball
League and make the game their careers – Matt Knight,
Lucas Walker, Shawn Redhage, Mason Bragg and
recently Sejr Deans and Lachie Barker to name a few.

The Club recognises the need to be competitive on the
court but off the court we pride ourselves on engaging
the community. Annually we acknowledge the
challenges people have with the battle with cancer, by
holding our annual Todd Nothrop Memorial Game
which allows to us to pause and reflect on the people’s
lives impacted by such an illness. As well as supporting
the local community through the league-wide
acknowledged rounds of ANZAC Round, Pink Round,
First Nations Round and Mental Health Round.

We also have been engaging musicians, dance
performers, singers and other entertainers to help them
perform in front of an audience. It is important to the
Club that we improve the values in the community and
make it a better place for all to be part of.

HOW IS The NW Thunder Basketball Club has many
SPONSORSHIP expenses during the year, generally
accumulating to an estimated $230,000 per year
USED? to put our local team on the court. The majority
of money (90% plus) raised through sponsorship
goes directly to funding player travel, player
recruiting, stadium costs, wages, uniforms and
equipment to name some of the higher cost
items. We make contributions to local
performing clubs and charities in maintaining
the Club’s values of improving the community.
We invest into improving the game night
experiences and attracting people to the games.

We see it as important to conduct the Club as a
business and to ensure the operations are
sustainably managed and that we remain viable
and relevant to our constituents and the
community long into the future.

We have commitments from SeaFM/7BU,

The Advocate, The Examiner, Channel 7

Tasmania and WIN Television to conduct

weekly interviews in the evening news. We

will continue to enhance exposure for our

corporate partners through social and

digital media. With fantastic growth in

sponsorship comes more responsibility to

deliver to your business.

All of our home games to be live streamed

through their website as well as our own.

This may provide opportunities for

corporate partners to get further exposure

both locally and nationally.
