Founders Day - in the Making - a Sneak Peek

The month of August saw BIS in rehearsal mode. With
Founders’ Day fast approaching, the day was spent
with a focus on academics upto lunch time, post which
practice for FDP started at 1:30 sharp. Students were
divided into groups, the musicians, the singers, the
backstage, the Alpha actors, the Beta actors, the
Gamma actors, the yoga performers, the dancers….
Come 1:30 pm, the staircase saw a flurry of activity
with students from Grades 6 to Grade 10, making their
way to the respective spaces for the FDP practice.

Each group worked with a director, with the house captains and other office bearers taking on
the task of assistant directors. The fun and learning has no doubt been amazing, as is apparent
from the sneak peek into practice time.

GERMAN UPDATE Zenia Hathi

From 16th-22 nd June 2019, Grade 9 student Divina Mathur went for the summer camp to
Nepal. The mornings started with sport. Thereafter students spent the day in various
workshops. They studied the German language and prepared a presentation for the last day. A
city tour was also included in the activities.

Ishan Shah and Avan Hathi of Grade 10 ventured on a Language Camp to Dresden from
7th-27th July 2019. Every year 2 students are selected for this 3 week language camp in
Germany. There are about 10 nations that take part at this camp with about 70 students.
Everyday students have language classes for 4 hours. The rest of the day, students are taken
for sightseeing, visits to museums, exhibitions or sport activities.

Ishan who was on this camp shares his impressions:
“Just recently, I had gone for a trip to Germany to learn more about the culture and improve my
German. Due to a connection flight from Paris, and a Bus ride from Berlin to Dresden; I was
exhausted. I made new friends from Ukraine, Brazil, South Africa, Denmark and also India. The
stay at the youth hostel was more than satisfactory; with the sleep being comfortable, the food
being appetizing, and a shopping center being right opposite the hostel. I stayed in a two
bedroom room with my roommate from Indonesia, called 'Amrullah'. The supervisors were kind,
funny and always helpful in order for us to enjoy our stay. They used to take us out for activities
ranging from visiting museums to playing football. These activities helped us to get to know the
other students. The teaching was top-notch, with the teachers implementing interactive
learning sessions with the help of outdoor activities. I also enjoyed taking part in the project;
'Fotostory' ; which involved making a computerized presentation of a story with dialogues and
thinking bubbles, with the students being specific characters in the story. I enjoyed leaving the
youth hostel everyday with my friends to explore the city of Dresden and shop for discounted
clothes. I was sad at the going away party, as I had to say goodbye to the wonderful people I
got to know throughout the 21 days, and go back to India to study and make up for my 10 days
absence from school”

CLASSROOMS - AN INNOVATIVE WORKSPACE
Knowing Me Knowing You
checked PS
Ms.Azmin Z. Vania

As part of the introductory lesson to English, students of Grade 6 custom made their personality face templates
in class, where they shared their pride and goals as much as they shared their anxieties and fears. This was a
great opening to understand each child and learn about their self image before they got buried under academic
pressure. Several students requested that their images be kept private as it was quite personal (and only meant
for my eyes) so we’ve only put up those who didn’t mind sharing about themselves. I did one on myself as well and
shared it with the students. How could I expect them to trust me if I didn’t trust them?

Settling In - GRADE 6 INDUCTION checked PS
Fizza Kachwala

Our youngest Middle-schoolers came into Gilbert a day earlier than the rest, on July 17,2019. To induct them
into the new system and familiarise them to the renovated Gilbert campus, we planned an entire day focussed on
them. The day began with students working as a team under the guidance and instructions of Ms. Kayla D’souza
of J Productions. The activities that were planned by her, allowed students and teachers to interact with each
other. Students and teachers had a chance to know each other better and students had opportunities to explore
the new campus.

Later, Ms. Azmin conducted a special session for the class to introduce them to the challenges of Middle school.
In an attempt to complete a series of complicated tasks students figured that the best way to navigate Middle
School was through team-work and focus. The class teachers Ms. Swapna and Mr. Imran spend time explaining
the housekeeping and other rules for the week ahead. This was followed by sessions in ART by Ms. Pooja and
Music by the True School of Music.

Overall, it was a day that was not only fun but also provided the students with a sense of comfort and confidence
to begin their journey into Middle School.

The U/16 Boys’ and Girls’ Team had yet another round of
exceptional performance in the MSSA Football tournament.
They played well and gave the other teams a very tough fight.
