Student
Preparation
Strategy

 Purpose: To ensure students come prepared to class and maybe
with relevant questions about the content.

 Encourage the students to prepare the power point before coming to
class so the can have an idea about the subjects that we are going to
discus in the lecture and prepare questions.

 At the end of the lecture I give the students few questions about the
next lecture

What is BOPPPS

B = Bridge
O = Objectives
P = Pre Assessment
P = PARTICIPATORY LEARNING
P = Post Assessment
S = Summary

BOPPPS
B = BRIDGE

 Start with Greetings then I ask the students general questions not
related to the lecture just to break the ice

 I start by giving a short summery about the lecture and ask general
questions about the subject that we are going to discus in the
lecture

BOPPPS
O = OBJECTIVES

 My objectives for the students is to understand the general concept
of the subject and then the relation between the structure and
function.

 By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
 1-know the structure of the heart. ( Level: Remembering)
 2-Describe how the blood flow through the heart valves is only in

one direction and what happens if there is a back flow of blood
through the valves. (Level: Understanding).
 3-understand the function of the conducting system of heart and
the influence of the autonomic nervous system on it.

BOPPPS
P = PRE-ASSESSMENT

 Start asking general question about the subject that we are going to
discus to see the weakness and strength of the class so I can focus
on the weakness side.

BOPPPS
P = PARTICIPATORY LESSON

COURSE: Biology 2404
Lesson Title: The Heart

Learning Objectives By the end of this lesson, students will be able to -Identify the structure of the heart.

-understand the relationship between the structure of the heart and its functions.

-understand the function of the conducting system of heart and the influence of the autonomic nervous system on it.

Participatory Learning:

Time Instructor Activities Learner Activities Lesson Materials

10 mins Introduce the structure of the heart Ask questions to asses knowledge Slides 1-10 describe the heart
Bloom Question (Remembering): what is the structure that structure and parts
separate the two ventricles of the heart.

15 mins Divide the students into four groups, distribute heart model Each group will label the different parts of the heart. Heart models.

to each group allow 10 minutes to complete and 5 Bloom Question (Understanding): Compare between the SA node

minutes to discuss. and the AV node?

10 mins Introduce the function of the conducting system of heart and Ask questions to asses knowledge. Slides 11-25 describe the
15 mins the influence of the autonomic nervous system on it. Bloom Question (Analyzing): What is the relationship between the conduction system of the
heart rate and the sympathetic stimulation? heart.

Distribute heart models and allow 10 minutes to complete Students will label the conduction system of the heart. Heart models.
and 5 minutes to discuss. Bloom Question (Evaluating): how would you treat a patient with
low heart rate?

BOPPPS
P = POST-ASSESSMENT

 Asking questions about what we discussed
 Sometimes I do pop up quiz
 Give the students homeworks

BOPPPS
S = SUMMARY

 At the end of each lecture I do a brief summery
about the subject we discussed, this will close the
lesson by addressing any commonly missed
questions on post-assessment

Test Questions

 Questions:
 1-The heart is situated within the medial section of the thoracic cavity known

as. (Remembering)
 a. Pleural cavity.
 b. Hiatus.
 c.Diaphragm.
 d. Mediastinum.
 2- The chordae Tendeneae anchors the wall of the semilunar valve to the walls of the

ventricles. (Understanding)
 a.True
 b.False

Test Questions

 3-The semilunar valves prevents the backflow of blood into the atria
when the ventricles are contracting. (Applying)

 a. True
 b. False
 4. which of the following is called the pacemaker of the heart?

(Analyzing)
 a. AV node
 b. SA node
 c. Purkinjie fibers
 d. Bundle of HIS

Personal . I have gained new insights into preparing
Reflection effective lectures and lesson planning.
on My ACP
Experience . I covered the Heart topic in my class and
incorporated Kahoot that I used as part of
New Technology in ACP classroom. It was
successful and the students were involved
and they had fun and learned at the same
time.
