page 1 Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 FROM THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN'S OFFICE Executive Chairman - Dr. S.Z Gata The Year of Deployment and Implementation Executive Chairman’s Remarks th It is my heartfelt pleasure to welcome all of you Vashandi veZESA Vanokosha, as we wrap up 2022. My remarks on the state of affairs of ZESA mark one of the major communiques to you as we sum up the year 2022. The years 2022 to 2023, as you are aware, are the years of “Strategical Deployment and Implementation” where we have undertaken major milestones in the strategic deployment of resources in terms of project funding, investing in generation, transmission and distribution of infrastructure, capacitation of our workforce in terms of work tools as well as creating state of the art operational and customer support services. There has been notable significant progress from merely stabilizing operations, client relations and industrial relations to being proactive and innovative in our plight to meet organizational objectives as well as establish ZESA as the employer of choice in the region and beyond. I express my sincere gratitude to the Government, the Board, Management, Employees and all other stakeholders who have tirelessly supported ZESA to ensure that we are where we are today. Management is aware of the plight that employees face in various spheres of their worklife balance and, as such, we are working on various initiatives to better the livelihoods of our employees. Such initiatives include periodic review of salaries and migration to the segregated medical aid fund which has passed through the preparatory stages. May you continue with the zeal and motivation as we drive towards the attainment of Vision 2030 objectives. The year was with its own challenges. We have faced constrained power generation capacity due to frequent breakdowns at all our aged power stations throughout the year. The Fourth Quarter also saw generation capacity at Kariba South Power Station reduced due to low water levels in the dam. This has adversely affected our capacity to fully service our customers and has forced us to resort to increased load shedding. Though other SADC Countries are in the same predicament, negotiations are now at advanced stages to secure increased imports from Zambia and Mozambique, as well as Independent Power Producers to augment local generation. The Hwange Unit 7 is expected to be synchronized into the national grid soon while Unit 8 will be commissioned before the end of the first quarter

Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 page 2 Projects Update Stakeholder Engagement and Communication th of 2023. These 2 units will give an additional of 600MW into the national grid. There has been efforts by the Government of Zimbabwe and ZESA to stabilize electricity supply through various interventions. These include power station expansion projects, transition to green economy through exploration of renewable sources of energy, electricity grid rehabilitation, total electrification projects, engagement of Independent Power Producers for Solar Projects and raising awareness on use of Alternative Sources of Power. I am glad to announce that significant progress has been made on the Total Electrification Project as we are now at the draw down stage of the Rwanda Energy Group funding. Notable milestones have already been achieved at commencement with the initial urban street lighting. The partnership will go a long way in terms of funding ZESA Manufacturing projects through ZENT, Street lighting through ZETDC and Rural Datafication through Powertel. I wish to update that most of our projects have successfully secured funding. These projects are aimed at increasing our electricity generation capacity, reinforcing and expanding our transmission and distribution grid network and electricity end user beneficiation projects. Other projects are now at different stages of financial closure, inclusive of Green Energy Generation Projects, Cleaner Thermal Power Station Refurbishment Projects, Power Station Life Extension Projects and Transmission Network Expansion Projects. These are expected to have a ripple effect in increasing the company’s capacity to reduce the new connections backlog as well as maintain electricity supply infrastructure reliability and availability. Public Private Partnerships are also being implemented particularly in the mining and mineral beneficiation sectors. These, and many provisions of other projects are critical in the growth of the economy through access to electricity for all, supporting a US$12 billion mining industry by 2023, ensuring food security, improving industrial capacity utilization and providing internet connectivity to all parts of Zimbabwe. ZESA’s main focus is to ensure that the projects, once completed, bridge the gap between supply and demand and even contribute to the fiscus through foreign currency earning from electricity exports. The company has made an impressive and remarkable improvement in the way we communicate and engage with our stakeholders. Platforms such as the 24-hour national contact centre, ZESA and subsidiary websites, social media platforms, business conferences and community engagements continue to be utilized in engaging external stakeholders. Internal stakeholders also continue to be engaged through works councils, Regional Stakeholder Relations Officers, Staff Satisfaction Surveys and the Open Door Policy which allows for every voice to be heard at the workplace. We should all work to portray a positive image of our company through excellent service delivery in our various complimentary roles. Tariff Update We are in constant engagement with our regulator and Government for a cost reflective tariff to enable us to meet our operational costs as well as to invest in infrastructural preventative maintenance and expansion projects. A cost reflective tariff would also enable us to consequently improve the remuneration packages of our valued employees.

page 3 Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 The ZESA Annual Sports Festival Conclusion th The year marked the return of the Munyati Sports Festival after years of absence. ZESA in general, and I in particular, have always paid a special interest in the welfare needs of ZESA employees. This special interest also includes the welfare of pensioners, widows and orphans. The revival of the ZESA Annual Sports and Wellness Festival with the 2022 edition was a welcome and encouraging development with regards to activities aimed at improving employees' wellness. The fusion between work and sport helps in the creation of greater social cohesion in the company which is key for teamwork and harmonious industrial relations. Workplace sporting activities also play an integral role in keeping employees physically and mentally healthy as well as improve workplace productivity, a new study has established. I am, therefore, happy to have celebrated with you the 2022 edition of the ZESA Annual Sports and Wellness Festival. I was enthused by the level of commitment, teamwork and loyalty during the Munyati Sports Festival. It is evident from the activities going on across all regions and subsidiaries that the message of implementation is clear. To that effect, some departments have gone an extra mile to dedicate some days as field days where they are visiting various projects to ensure implementation is properly done. I urge you to continue to be mindful of our widows, pensioners and orphans whenever you come up with initiatives as they are and will always belong to the ZESA family. Allow me to conclude by reiterating that we are mindful of the challenges you are facing and management is seized with various mitigation measures which will be communicated at the appropriate time. I thank you for the resilience and dedication to duty and implore you to continue with this spirit. We have a part to play, which include enabling universal access to electricity provision, promoting cultural diversity at the workplace, tolerance, unity of purpose and to work hard for our beloved organization. Blessed Holidays and remember to take care of yourselves and families. SAFETY TIP

Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 page 4 POWER COLUMN Q3 2022 The period under review saw Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) experiencing depressed generation at the thermal stations due to numerous forced outages.  A total of 2,258.79GWh were sent out in the 3 quarter of the year, thereby missing the target which was set at 2,444.02GWh by 7.58%. However, for  the period January to September 2022, ZPC managed to send out 6,727.82GWh, surpassing the target set at 6,621.62GWh by 1.60%. The small thermals produced a total of 41.47GWh of energy, falling 29.09% short of the quarterly target of 58.48GWh. This was due to low plant availability and coal stock outs, which resulted in generation loss. During the quarter, Kariba South Power Station had 7 units available for peak generation, and as a such, the station exceeded its quarterly target by 9.17%. The hydro power station’s output for the quarter under review was 2.53% higher than the output in the same period last year and this was attributed to an increase in water allocation by Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) from 15 Billion Cubic Meters in 2021 to 22.5 Billion Cubic Meters in 2022. Kariba Power Station consumed 20.4 Billion Cubic Meters for power generation as of the end of Q3 2022, compared to a target of 17.4 Billion Cubic Meters , leaving the station with 2.1 Billion Cubic Meters of generation capacity for the remainder of the year. ZPC secured US$310 million from the ExportImport (EXIM) Bank of India to rehabilitate Hwange Power Station. The rehabilitation of the ageing thermal power plant shall be done in three phases and we are projecting that the work on the refurbishment will begin in the third quarter of 2023. The Deka Upgradation Project is 71.2% complete and on track to be completed by March 31, 2023. The pipes have been laid in the order of thickness for the entire 42km. Since then, pipe welding has begun. The Hwange Expansion Project Unit 7 is expected to be synchronised to the grid by the end of this year. th SAFETY TIP rd

Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) started receiving various components for the Deka project in July 2022 and this project is being funded from a US$48.1million Line of Credit (LOC) extended by the Government of India to the Government of Zimbabwe. The Deka Upgradation Project officially commenced on the 1 of October 2021 and is expected to be completed by 31 of March 2023. The project scope includes the construction of a new 42 km, 960mm diameter pipeline from Deka High Lift pump station to Hwange Power Station, complete with independent cathodic protection, supply of spare pumps and motors, supply of spares for Deka Low lift and High Lift pump stations, new supervisory control and data acquisition system and field instruments, refurbishment of ZINWA Water Treatment Plant in Hwange and provision of three tap off points for supply of raw water to the Deka community. To this end, the first batch of 3 555 mild steel pipes arrived in the country on the 10 of July 2022. Transportation process took approximately a month to complete as the pipes were transported in batches of 30 trucks. This is another notable achievement which is expected to contribute immensely to the key aspirations of the National Development Strategy 1(NDS1) and Vision 2030, which is targeted to significantly contribute in achieving energy self-sufficiency. To date, a total of US$13.7 million has been invested in procuring local goods and services such as surveys, general civil works, inland transportation, pipe laying and jointing and pipe hydro testing and commissioning, thus, enormously contributing towards socio - economic development. The project is being implemented alongside the Hwange Unit 7 and 8 Expansion Project to augment supply of water at Hwange Power Station with the coming on board of the two new units which will add 600MW to the national grid. As part of our Corporate Social Investment initiatives, we are cognisant of the need for access to water in the communities that we operate in, and, to this end, there will be water outlets along the pipeline for the provision of this basic need. Furthermore, we have a deliberate local empowerment strategy where the locals have been given first priority and employed for this and several ongoing projects to ensure that no-one and no place is left behind. ZPC is committed towards energy self-sufficiency by the year 2030 and, would like to thank all stakeholders for their sustained support and commitment in a bid to meet all the targets. page 5 Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 ARRIVAL OF DEKA UPGRADATION PROJECT EQUIPMENT BOOSTS HWANGE EXPANSION PROJECT th Pipes received for Deka Upgradation Project Trucks Receiving Equipment For DEKA Updragation Project st st th

Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 page 6 53 Annual Executive Meeting For The Southern African Power Pool, October 2022. In October 2022, ZESA Holdings had the honour of hosting the 53 Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP) Annual Executive Meeting where twelve (12) member countries of the SAPP attended. These included Botswana, Mozambique, Malawi, Angola, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia, DRC, and Zimbabwe. The event was graced by the ZESA Holdings Executive Chairman, Dr. S.Z. Gata and ZESA top Management who were later joined by The Minister of Energy and Power Development, Hon. S. Zhemu to officiate at the opening of SAPP Coordination Centre Offices in Emerald Hill. Various Stakeholders attending official opening of SAPP Offices in Emerald Hill on 31 October 2022. th rd rd

page 7 Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 One major highlight of this year’s SAPP meeting was a discussion on generation capacity of the interconnected utilities. Looking at 2020, total installed capacity of all SAPP utilities was 72157MW with an operating capacity of 58494MW. Thus, about 80% of installed capacity was active in 2020. Fast forward to 2022 and that 80% has dropped to about 66% as highlighted by Engineer Choga, Acting Managing Director for ZETDC in his address. The reason for this is not always the deterioration of existing power-generating installations. Expansion of capacity on existing plants as well as new plants that haven’t gone online yet contributes to this. The Minister of Energy and Power Development, Hon. S. Zhemu, further explained that the construction of Hwange Power Station’s unit 7 was nearing completion and expected to be online by December 2022. He also mentioned that unit 8 of the same power station will be completed by the end of the 1 quarter of 2023. These 2 units will be adding a combined 600MW to the grid. Speaking at the officiating ceremony, ZESA Executive Chairman Dr Sydney Gata said, “Having the SAPP offices situated in Harare is both symbolic and strategic. It is symbolic in that Zimbabwe is centrally positioned in the SADC region. It is strategic in that access to Harare for any requisite physical meetings such as this one, is achieved with ease”. th st

Speaking at ZESA’s drone technology certification ceremony in Harare in a speech read on my behalf, the ZESA Executive Chairman Dr Sydney Gata said, “Today marks the day that we celebrate the certification of the use of drone technology in our day-today operations, a milestone that is expected to improve on service delivery. With drone technology, the Zimbabwe Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) will be able to identify faults within the transmission and distribution of electricity channels without having to physically send a team on the ground for line patrol”. The company becomes one of the pioneers to be certified in Remote Operated Pilot Certification, a prestigious certification by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ). “This will enable a quicker turn-around in fault finding and rectification, resulting in continuous and consistent provision of electricity to our customers. Drone technology will also assist ZETDC in its fight against vandalism and theft of electricity infrastructure.” Said Dr Gata. ZETDC is also battling a myriad of challenges, ncluding theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure, faults mainly emanating from ageing power distribution infrastructure which is currently undergoing rehabilitation. This has seen the country experiencing unplanned power outages resulting in customer inconveniences. The power utility boss said the organization was leveraging on digital technologies such as drones, anti-intrusion detection systems, CCTV systems, geographical information systems, remote sensing, smart-metering, artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve service delivery. “Drones are key in Zimbabwe’s electricity digital market disruption as they create opportunities beyond the traditional way of doing business, provide non-traditional solutions and simplify the electricity generation, transmission and distribution processes,” Dr Sydney Gata added. THE Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) embarked on an aggressive and strategic revenue assurance exercise as it intensified its effort to combat the widespread theft of electricity through meter bypassing and incorrect installation resulting in some customers consuming electricity at no cost. Following their recent visit to Bulawayo, the company’s Revenue Assurance Manager, Engineer, Wilfred Shereni said these cases are more prevalent in suburbs such as Cowdray Park and Mahatshula and In Harare, areas like Mabvuku, Highfields, Mbare, Mufakose, among others, dominate such cases. It is said that youths constitute most of electricity users who bypass electricity systems to steal power. The ZETDC senior management made another visit in May to Bulawayo to assess how the power utility will incorporate all the housing units into the pre-paid payment system. ZETDC has procured 100 000 prepaid meters as it targets to complete the placement of all its customers under this system by June next year. The power utility says some of the parastatal's clients who bypass the system are discovered when they do not buy electricity for a prolonged period, resulting in ZETDC officials conducting checks at those homes. ZETDC Revenue Assurance manager, Engineer Wilfred Shereni said that, theft of electricity by consumers is also happening in both western and eastern regions. He said that, at houses where there is tampering with electricity, some of the people living there will not be aware of the theft. "I wouldn't want to mention names but it's all over and when we did an audit, we found out that some meters were bypassed in those areas (Cowdray Park and Mahatshula). But I must mention that we also have some very good and honest customers in those areas. Even in low density suburbs you will find some customers bypassing but some of the tenants won't know it". "There are some people who go around claiming to be consultants, so some of our customers, you will find their meters having been bypassed without even them knowing." said Eng Shereni He said out of concern that, despite Government coming up with stiff regulations to deter clients from tampering with power infrastructure, customers still do it ,"We identified the culprits when we were doing those audits. There is a penalty of up to 30 years and there are charges that we levy the customer and despite all those measures, we are finding customers still stealing electricity". Eng Shereni further said," ZETDC has come up with several strategies to prevent electricity theft. Those who steal electricity should understand that other consumers bear the cost of their theft. ZETDC has come up with an intelligent box to detect electricity theft. It is a problem and that is why we are placing meters on the poles so that the meters are not accessible. A box can be monitored remotely page 11 ZETDC Advances Its Campaign Against Electricity Theft Megawatt Bulletin 4th Quarter | 2022

Government is in the process of amending existing laws to punish those who vandalize electricity infrastructure. While theft of copper cables and vandalism of transformers is rampant and its impact is widespread, the theft of electricity at home will also attract similar fines. At the moment there is a mandatory nine- year jail sentence for those who tamper or abuse power infrastructure but Government wants those convicted to face a 30-year mandatory sentence. Campaign against Electricity theft so that when a customer tampers with it, it will report back. It can house up to 12 (twelve) meters which is equivalent to monitoring 12 houses". Engineer Shereni appreciated the ongoing nationwide stakeholder engagement programmes and said there is a need to continuously educate our consumers about the risks associated with theft of power. "We are losing revenue which we are supposed to be collecting. As a power utility, when we look at tariff reviews, we look at all our customers and customers who are paying are actually paying for those who are stealing from the utility. They are not stealing from us but other customers in essence". Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 page 12 th #Say No To Vandalism

page 13 Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 TOTAL ELECTRIFICATION OF ZIMBABWE LAUNCH READY TO ROLL The Government of Zimbabwe engaged the Government of the Republic of Rwanda for cooperation in the energy sector. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Energy was signed between the Ministry of Energy and Power Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Rwanda. This led to the signing of the inter-Utility Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and ZESA in which various areas of co-operation were agreed upon. The facility is worth US$800 million. The attainment of the Government’s vision of becoming an upper middle income economy by 2030 is premised upon a secure, robust, reliable and adequate power supply mechanism. The power sector is a key enabler for the successful implementation of both NDS1 and NDS2 on the trajectory towards the attainment of vision 2030. Energy security is critical to Zimbabwe’s economic recovery, stabilization and growth. ZESA has been seeking recapitalization to restore the integrity of its aged infrastructure, grow the customer base and close the power supply gap that is resulting in load shedding and taking a knock on the productive sectors of the economy. ZESA is, indeed, very proud and excited to have operationalized the Rwanda Energy Group (REG) MoA signed in a unique and historical partnership and the first between African power utilities. The game changing US$800 million facility far exceeds the funding loans advanced by multilateral funders before the imposition of sanctions on the country. The facility will transform the fortunes of the power utility and capacitate it to connect more than 345,000 homes on the national grid towards the achievement of universal access to electricity under the Total Electrification programme. A new US$10 million monthly revenue stream will be realized from the growth in customer base and new mining step loads in the short to medium term. In addition, through the smart metering project a robust revenue assurance strategy is guaranteed to plug revenue leakages and bring the utility to international best practice loss benchmarks. ZESA has since embarked on an aggressive project execution drive in order to achieve the gains in a timely manner and amortize the facility. Sleeves have been rolled up at all levels and teams are on the ground. Without effective implementation, deployment and execution, the benefits will not be realised. To that end, ZESA expresses its uttermost gratitude and appreciation of the friendship, brotherly and fraternal relationship with REG in this long term win-win strategic partnership. With the skills, competencies and capabilities in ZESA, the facility will take the utility to a higher level and enable it to fulfill its mandate and, ultimately, enable vision 2030 to became a reality. ZESA has learnt a lot from REG’s work rate, ethics and culture which is the bedrock of their success and is worthy of th

Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 page 14 emulation as evidenced in the 25km public lighting pilot project. The consummation of the MoU over an 18 months’ period was given impetus by the weekly one hour meetings that bore fruit leading to the historic financial closure of the facility. Both ZESA and REG put in tremendous effort and hard work. Among the projects that are to be implemented under the US$800 million facility, are the rolling out of three (3) million Stand Alone Home Solar Systems, Distribution of Solar Generation Systems for Sensitive and Strategic Supply (SSS) points, Distribution and Access (Connection backlog of 345,000 customers), National Public Street Lighting for Provincial Capitals and Rural Datafication. Furthermore, the facility will allow for the installation of Applications that maximize use of Electricity and System Load Factors, the local manufacturing of transformers through ZENT for the ZETDC and export to Rwanda, Mozambique and Zambia, Masvingo 132kV Substation, Distribution and access associated with the 132kV Masvingo Substation, Revenue Assurance through the roll out of pre-paid and smart meters, drone technology and capacity building through various skills training at the ZESA National Training Centre. Powertel Communications has stepped up efforts to thwart the scourge of vandalism that has haemorraged the power utility of critical distribution infrastructure required by the nation to ensure reliable access to electricity. Rollout of Transformer Anti- Intrusion system (TAIS) has gained momentum with Powertel working closely with the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Distribution Company (ZETDC) and Group Loss Control to protect transformers in the most hard hit areas. Whilst the global target is 6000 transformers protected by the TAIS, the project is being implemented in phases, with Phase 1 of the project expected to cover almost 1200 transformers in the most hard hit areas and is already underway with progress now slightly above 50% complete. Powertel Ensuring Modernisation of the Electricity Grid … Installation of OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) Fiber on Distribution Infrastructure. Powertel has embarked on major infrastructural projects implementation drive in partnership with ZETDC, which will not only result in a digital & future ready electricity grid distribution network, but ultimately will see the rural population benefiting from access to a plethora of digital products and services. This falls in line with Powertel’s mandate to provide integrated ICT solutions to support power generation, transmission and distribution by ZESA, thus enabling realtime monitoring and control of the power grid elements to balance between power generation and consumption. Currently Powertel operates and maintains the communication infrastructure, both backbone and access networks within the ZESA Group, including deploying the existing and future optic fiber infrastructure on the power lines. page 15 Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 Powertel Steps Up Efforts On The Anti-Vandalism Drive th

Utilising it’s strength in deploying fiber optic networks, in particular, Optical Ground Wire (OPGW), ADSS and other fiber optic solutions and communication systems, Powertel is actively supporting the modernization of the national grid by deploying a spectrum of Smart Grid technologies to guarantee efficient provision of reliable electricity to anchor sustainable economic growth and development. Powertel already has and continues to deploy extensive ICT infrastructure on the Grid that will enable future grid technologies such as the integration of distributed energy resource management systems (DERMS), Internet of Power (IoP), Smart City and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Real-time Energy Optimization (AERO). Notable projects that are under way include the Sherwood B to Hwange OPGW project which has 6 project teams deployed totalling 85 Human Resources encompassing Climbers, Linesmen and Groundsmen who are working on the ground to ensure timeous completion of the project. This project is expected to reduce the digital connectivity gap in areas such as Gokwe, Zhombe, Nkayi, Hwange amongst others. Ensuring reliable electricity and ICT infrastructure in rural communities is envisaged to accelerate and modernize provincial economic development, thus, attracting investment and infrastructural development in those areas.

page 17 Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 Munyati Sports And Wellness Festival Bounces Back After several years on a haitus , the much anticipated ZESA Munyati Sports and Wellness Festival 2022 edition returned to the ZESA calendar. The annual corporate sporting showcase had been shelved for eight (8) years due to a number of reasons that include typhoid and the COVID 19 pandemics. The event returned to the ZESA calendar amid various mental, social and economic challenges that employees had been facing. The festival acted as a much needed morale booster where employees got the opportunity to interact amongst themselves, interact with management, compete in various sporting disciplines as well as take a break from the day to day work activities. The curtain raiser of the sports festival was the signature modeling event which was held at the spacious ZPC Munyati Guest House Bowling Green. Employees battled it out for the much coveted Mr. and Miss Munyati Modeling titles. One could be forgiven for easily mistaking the event for a modeling show in Paris, the fashion capital of the world. The Judges panel was well dressed in elegant evening wear and Mr. Ruhode, one of the panelists could have easily walked away with the Mr. Munyati title had he not been a Judge. His colleague Mrs. Moyo was also not to be outdone in an elegant green number as she chaired the Judges’ panel. The greatest headache for the judges was on scoring the models as each participant came well prepared and all of them could have easily won the title. The court of public opinion added their voice in assisting to select the eventual winners with the Munyati Community turning up in large numbers to cheer their own. disciplines were lined up which included soccer, netball, volleyball, tennis, athletics, tug of war, pool, darts, draught and golf. All sporting events in this year’s edition of the ZESA Munyati Sports and Wellness Festival took place at Munyati Power Station save for golf which was played in Kwekwe. This gave an opportunity for a wholesome uplifting of Munyati facilities, with those that were left behind being earmarked for refurbishment or construction in subsequent years. The official opening ceremony was held on Saturday 1 October 2022 at the ZPC Munyati Power Station Main Stadium. The event was nothing short of spectacular with various stakeholders that included Colonel Mudzinganyama who was the Guest of Honour, representing the Minister of Energy and Power Development, District Development Coordinator for Zibagwe District representing the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Midlands Province, The ZESA Executive Chairman Dr S.Z. ZESA Holdings, in partnership with Nyaradzo Group’s Friends of the Environment took part in a tree planting exercise at ZESA National Training Centre on Friday 9 December 2022. Friends Of The Environment (FOTE), is a not-for-profit organization of environmentally like-minded individuals and corporate entities championing the re-greening of Zimbabwe through tree planting. The FOTE initiative, in partnership with ZESA, was inspired by the kick-starting of the tree planting season, as it notably followed the National Tree Planting Day which was commemorated on Saturday, 3 December 2022. In this picture, Patience Fusire (holding a tree ) of FOTE in the Company of some ZESA staff who took part in the tree planting initiative FOTE representative Mr Mukaro took time to train participants on how to plant trees in a way which ensures they will thrive. The event was characterized with chants of the slogan, “Muti Nhasi, Sango Mangwana, Sango Mangwana, Muti Nhasi”. The slogan motivates people to grow trees as every effort will ultimately lead to an improved environment in future. In her address, Ms Fusire demonstrated her strong bond with nature in general and greening the environment in particular. She rallied all the participants to grow as many trees as possible so that we can have many forests in future. Stakeholder Relations Executive for ZESA Holdings, Ms. Prisca Utete, in her address, emphasised that, people generally need reminders of our connection with nature and our planet. She added,“This act is fundamental. The health of our planet is essential to our own health and wellbeing and to our future and trees are an essential part of it”. Trees planted on the day were a mixture of indigenous and exotic. These included the Bottlebrush Tree, Kenyan Croton, Musau, Munyii, Mukute, Mushumha, Mutohwe with a variety of mixed fruit trees being added to the lot. page 21 Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 ZESA Holdings Inaugural Wellness Day 2022 ZESA Holdings hosted the inaugural Wellness Day on the of 5 August 2022 under the theme " Employee Transformation Through Wellness". Speaking at the event, the ZESA Executive Chairman, represented by Mr Chikwenhere, outlined how important wellness is to a ZESA employee and he implored management to be innovative in addressing employee welfare issues. He reminded management to always be mindful of orphans, widows and pensioners. ZESA Acting Head Corporate Services, Mrs. Florence Chibasa, expressed joy over the success of the event as this was key to striking a balance between work and play, education and leisure , obedience and freedom as well as safety and autonomy. Whilst physical health is of paramount importance to the wellbeing of a person, mental health is of equal if not more significant importance. The day was quite an action packed and fun filled day which saw ZESA Holdings and ZESA National Training Centre (NTC) staff convening at the NTC for the wellness day. Upon registration, employees were issued with a cricket hat and a towel before being directed to the main field were all activities were to take place. As it was the first Friday of the month, environmental wellness was the first thing on the agenda. The members of staff who were present participated in the National Clean Up Campaign and cleaned the environs of the ZESA National Training Centre, albeit the fact that ZESA National Training Centre staff does a splendid job to ensure that the facility is always clean. ZESA employees literally struggled to find any waste to clean up at the NTC facility. Everyone was well dressed in and presentable in a blue tracksuit and white golf shirt. The day started off with a Zumba dancing session to literally “shake off” the bodies and bones of which some could be heard creaking and squeaking due to lack of constant exercise. The Master of Ceremony, Mr Prosper “Mkoma Puro” Mutswiri made sure he improved mental wellness of those in attendance through cracking hearty jokes whenever the moment arose. After the Zumba session Mr C. Ngadziore offered an invocation before the acting Head of Corporate Services, Mrs F. Chibasa gave opening remarks. The General Manager Stakeholder Relations Communication and Welfare, Dr G. Manyaya took time to introduce the Guest of Honour, Mr E. Chikwenhere who was standing in for the ZESA Holdings Group Executive Chairman, Dr S.Z. Gata. In a speech read on his behalf, Dr Gata emphasised the importance of mental and physical health of all ZESA employees. He stated that as employees, we should take active measures to improve our physical and mental wellness. He further stated that ZESA Holdings was happy with the successful hosting of its inaugural wellness and sports day event. After the ball games, there were track events which included a sack race and a departmental relay. The Stakeholder Relations Department took the lime light in the sack race with Mr Mutswiri proving that, though he was a Usain Bolt with the microphone racing was not for him, he fell more than thrice in the 50 metre sack race. Not to be outdone by his colleague, Mr Mushininga from the same department decided to trip and fall twice coming out last in the end of the fun-filled race. Mr Mushininga had this to say, “Vandijuma. They had already started jumping before we were told to go. But, however, it is not always about winning but about participation. Just wait and see next wellness day, I will win this". Dr Gata went on to state that they were aware of the financial plight that the employees are facing and that management is working to ensure that the financial wellness of staff is improved as it has a ripple effect on physical and emotional wellness. After the initial presentations by service providers, it was time for sport. First were the ball games which included Netball, Soccer and Volleyball. After track events came the time for the main event which was the tug-of-war matches. It was a show of sheer determination and power as teams sought to establish dominance by pulling each other over. After the tug-of- war event, attendees were treated to a sumptuous lunch by the NTC staff. The morning events were punctuated by a hearty and healthy breakfast that was prepared by the NTC canteen staff. Breakfast was followed by Service Provider presentations. Cellmed Health, Connect Zimbabwe, and Old Mutual began by giving presentations on healthy lifestyle, stress management and financial wellness, respectively. Mr S. Zuze gave a presentation on retirement planning for all and sundry to prepare for life after ZESA. After the hearty lunch and sporting events, it was now time for more Service Provider presentations. Musasa Project took time to educate attendees on Gender Based Violence as well as ways to mitigate against it. Belvedere Medical Centre also made a presentation on the services that they provide and how they ensure their clients’ lives are a priority. The best was indeed saved for last when Miles Jacob took to the platform to present. He covered all aspects of employee wellness, including personal hygiene, mental wellness, spiritual wellness, sexual wellness and physical wellness. After the presentations the Acting Head of Corporate Services and the Acting Senior Manager Human Resources at ZPC were invited to hand over awards to the successful participants. Mr Makuvaza, the Acting Training and Development Manager at NTC gave the closing remarks before closing the event with a word of prayer. After that, it was time for socialising and interacting whilst reminiscing on the events of the day. Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 page 24 Of all the gifts that we wish for, the gift of health and life always stands on top. ZESA Group of companies has introduced various initiatives aimed at improving and safeguarding the health and wellness of its employees. The various initiatives include both preventative as well as assistive measures in the event of ill-health. Wellness Days, Weekend sporting activities, the Annual Sports and Wellness Festival and medical aid facilities quickly come to mind. As a mark of demonstrating that the company values its employees who are at the heart of its operations, ZESA has a facility to cater for employee’s medical needs beyond the normal human resources health initiatives. The medical assistance facility is administered under the stakeholder relations department, in line with the Corporate Social Responsibility Policy. One proud beneficiary of the facility is Mr Thomas Kamuchenje working under ZETDC Southern Region as an Artisan Assistant at Kwekwe Customer Service Centre. Thomas had exhausted his Medical Aid Facility (MAC) claim facility, Staff Special Fund and medical loan facility yet he still needed to access medical services. In his own words, “When the stakeholder relations team visited our offices and made a presentation on the CSR policy, l immediately approached our human resources department. I am so grateful for the medical assistance l received from the company. l was treated and continue to receive treatment. Though I am still not so well, I am very happy that I am getting attention. I am also happy the company has gone over and above to ensure l am treated, l will forever be grateful” The General Manager Stakeholder Relations, Communications and Welfare Dr George Manyaya had this to say, “While the Company is doing all it can to ensure we improve on our medical aid facility, the medical assistance facility under the Corporate Social Responsibility has been very useful in the year 2022. We saw twenty-five (25) of our employees being assisted across the group. In most cases, these employees needed specialist and very costly treatment. A total of seventyfive million Zimbabwean dollars (ZWL 75 000 000.00) was used on payments towards medical assistance for employees during the year.” ZESA Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Saves Lives th Thomas Kamuchenje (Artisan Assistant ZETDC)

Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 page 26 Tradition has always been viewed from different perspectives among various people who have their own cultural ideologies, it provides a sense of belonging so that no one feels like an outsider. While some communities have departed completely from their culture, for the Tonga people, tradition has remained alive despite the modern trends in our country. For the Tonga community tradition fulfils a sense of being, belonging, believing and benevolence. It has maintained continuity between generations, allows cultures to share their heritage with others and is used to teach people about their history. When Kariba Dam was constructed, the Tonga people were staying along the Zambezi River performing their traditions which were meant to ensure that the river does not dry up. They were later displaced to pave way for Kariba dam construction. The Tonga people, however, maintained their tradition they feel they have a responsibility to continue their rituals so that Kariba dam does not dry up. Towards the end of each year, chiefs under Kariba district hold traditional ceremonies which are meant to improve the water situation in Kariba dam. All organizations whose activities rely on Kariba Dam waters assist the Chiefs with groceries during the ceremonies as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. This year’s ceremonies were held in November 2022. ZESA, through its subsidiary ZPC, provided groceries to all the four chiefs in Kariba and Chief Mola was one of the benefiting chiefs. Stakeholder Relations Officer Mr. Sylvester Mushininga and Community Relations Officer Mr. Reuben Mupfumira attended the function. A visit was made to Chief Mola’s homestead where the traditional ceremony was being held. It was such a moving ceremony with different activities being performed. Two types of beer were brewed, one brewed for seven days and the other one brewed for one day, much to the pleasure of the community members who were drinking beer for a whole weekend. Chief Mola was so grateful to ZPC for the support he received through the purchase of groceries. In his own words, ‘I am totally delighted to see this amazing quantity of groceries from ZPC. This is the usual support we get from them, however, this time they have improved. In actual fact, they are improving on a yearly basis. Leaners in particular expressed keen interest in some of the Traineeship opportunities available in the group with one learner stating that, “I did not know that there are good jobs that you can do without going to university. I also liked that if I become an apprentice my school fees at college will be paid for by ZESA while I also earn an allowance to take care of myself. “Information is power” so the old adage goes. The same can be said to be true as was the case for the Corporate Social Responsibility roll out exercise in the ZESA Northern Region. The Corporate Social Responsibility policy was signed on the 5 of January 2022. The Stakeholder Relations Department embarked on a nationwide policy rollout programme where they presented the Corporate Social Responsibility Policy to stakeholders who included employees, pensioners, widows and widowers. From the 11 to the 14 June 2022 the Stakeholder Relations Department embarked on a Policy rollout program in the northern region, covering Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central and part of Mashonaland East Provinces. The purpose of the engagement was to conscientise stakeholders on the contents of the CSR Policy as well as to gather input on issues that could be considered in the policy when the next review is conducted. Stakeholders welcomed the policy as it contains positive policy provisions that stakeholders could benefit from. Some of the key takeaways that are provided for by the policy include supporting of sporting activities, medical assistance, school fees assistance, empowerment and indigenisation which stakeholders also highlighted as areas they could potentially benefit from. Some of the comments from the Stakeholders are captured below. “I am very happy because of this policy. When my husband passed away the company seemed to have neglected us. It is not easy being a single parent with young children. But from this policy my children can potentially be assisted with school fees and that makes life easier and the future brighter.” Kariba Widow “I am happy that the issue of sport is covered by policy. I am glad that as ZESA they care about our physical and mental health. I just hope this will not end with the policy with little work on the ground.” ZETDC Chinhoyi Employee “We really appreciate the medical assistance towards chronic conditions. We had become desperate as employees. We just hope this assistance also incorporates our immediate family members such as spouses and children. But we welcome this policy.” ZPC Kariba Employee “We are happy that you want to assist us with skills to start income generating projects. We really welcome such an initiative because our pensions are very low and can no longer sustain us.” ZESA Pensioner page 29 Megawatt Bulletin 4 Quarter | 2022 The above picture shows widows listening attentively to the CSR Policy presentation at the Social Club under ZPC Kariba South Power Station while Ms Busi Chibaya made a presentation.
