Dear Sue Anne,
How was your holiday? I hope that you have enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed mine. This time around, my
parents thought of doing something different. 1 .The home encourages families to foster a child for weekends
or holidays. My dad and I thought it was a good idea. 2 . One Saturday morning, we drove to the home. The
children were of all ages, from babies to teenagers. Despite the circumstances that led them to being in the home,

they did not seem resentful at all.
Jane was sent to live with us. 4 . The things I took for granted like having my own room, a big, comfortable
house and a well- stocked fridge excited her. We got to know Jane. She was friendly and cheerful. 5
As the holidays ended, I felt sad that Jane would have to go back to the Shelter House. 6 . Write to me and
tell me how you spent the last two months. Take care and bye.

Bullies come in many types. The class bully is the boy or girl who keeps attacking you in class. They might push you
around or knock your head. 1 . They usually do it because they are stronger than you.
The bully who likes to pick on you at the playground is called the playground bully. 2 . They will try to make
you appear small and weak in front of other children. If you feel humiliated, it means that he has won.
The money bully will threaten to beat you up if you do not give him your pocket money. He could be an older pupil or
an outsider. 3 . These bullies are greedy and want to take more than what is rightfully theirs. They enjoy
taking things away from other people to make themselves feel like they are better than others. These bullies do not
want to work for their fair share of gain.
4 . No one knows that he is a bully other than the person whom they bully. He may not be bigger or stronger
than you. 5 . He is able to take your money or make you do things for them without hurting you. He might
even play mind-games with you and make you feel guilty for not doing things for them. He is very good at
manipulating people and can toy with people’s emotions.
If you encounter any of these bullies, do not get into a fight. 6 . If he does not listen, tell your teacher or
parents. You do not have to suffer in silence.
A. They might do anything to make you angry so that you will fight with them.
B. The smartest of all the bullies is the quiet bully.
C. They might also be doing it because they think it is funny, or
because they do not like the way you look, talk, or walk.
D. You should learn martial arts to protect yourself from bullies.

Chickenpox is an infection disease caused by a virus. 1 . As the disease spreads easily, it usually occurs
in epidemics affecting a whole community.
The symptoms of the disease may get a fever. 2 . They will quickly spread to the rest of the body. 3 ,
On the fourth day, these will dry up. The dried up blisters do not usually leave scars unless the infected person
scratches them and they burst. 4 . Normally, a person gets chickenpox only once in a lifetime.
5 . They must not share personal items such as towels and clothes with others. Infected persons should
also take plenty of rest and eat lightly. 6 .
A. Twenty-four hours later, red rashes appear on the back and chest.
B. The blisters appear more on the body, less on the limbs and face.
C. You shouldn’t scratch your blisters.
D. The rashes later become blisters containing a fluid.
E. People with chickenpox need to be isolated.
F. People should get vaccinated to avoid getting chickenpox.

Wild animals often hide, either to protect themselves or to hunt for their prey. 1 . The zebra’s black and white
stripes make its whole body appear a dull grey from afar. 2 . Animals with blotches or spots like the giraffe
and the leopard can hardly be seen if they stand still among the bushes and trees. The stripes of the tiger can
conceal it among the trees in the jungle. Cheetahs must hide to spring a surprise on their prey. 3 .
4 . It is not easy to see a leaf insect or a stick insect among leaves and branches. Colourful butterflies blend
it well with the brightly coloured flowers they feed among. Crocodiles look just like floating logs in the river.
5 . The chameleon and certain kinds of fish change colour when they enter new surroundings. For example,
a flounder can change from tan to black when it swims over sand and then mud.
6 . Each species has its own special way of surviving in the wild.
A. Their spotted tawny colour blends with the brown grasslands where they
hunt.

C Some animals, especially insects are shaped and coloured like their
