PROFILE
NAME: TAI MEE LIEN
MATRIC NUMBER: 012021070619
COURSE: BACHELOR IN TEACHING ENGLISH
AS SECOND LANGUAGE (BTESL)
UNIVERSITY: MANAGEMENT & SCIENCE
UNIVERSITY (MSU)
Hello everyone, my name is Tai Mee
Lien but my lecturers and my fellow
classmates in MSU call me Mei for
short. I am a progression student
from Diploma in Teaching English as
Second Language (DTESL) and
currently doing my Bachelor in
Teaching English as Second
Language (BTESL) at Management
and Science University, Shah Alam. I
am preparing for the upcoming
internship in a secondary school in
gaining knowledge and skills in
teaching the target language. Hence,
I am glad that I get to improve my
teaching skills as well as my
confidence to be the best educator for
my future students.
1
PERSONAL PRINCIPLE IN TEACHING
As a future educator, being passionate in teaching and willing to be
patient when teaching someone is one character that an educator should
have. It is important for a teacher to be passionate in sharing their
knowledge and let other people make use of the knowledge learned to
improve better. Having a good relationship as an educator with the
students is also important in order to make them feel at ease while
learning. Being approachable and understanding towards the students
is also a must character that a teacher should be. This is because, as a
student, I feel like a teacher is the main source for me to look for
information but at the same time putting trust into my teacher to share
certain problems that I wanted to share. Hence, the teacher should be
someone who was there to listen to the student’s problem, because I
believe there are students out there feeling lost and lacking support from
their family members. It led me to a path where I wanted to be an
educator in school and take care of those students who need attention
and support. Especially with unwanted cases happening in schools
around the world, I am hoping that one day there will be some changes
that can be made in schools in the world to make a better place for the
students to learn in a school environment without having to worry about
anything. Being a teacher is not just about trying to achieve the learning
outcome, but also to make sure that the students are not stressed about
coming to school or feeling like they are being forced to come. All success
in teaching will come aligned with being kind-hearted and being sincere
with what we are doing as a teacher and together we grow the future of
the world. 2
OVERALL RELFECTION:
MICROTEACHING CLASS
Through 8 weeks of learning Microteaching subject, I have
definitely learned and gained a lot in terms of teaching
skills, as well as speaking skills. Besides, Microteaching
classes allow me to learn lots of principles in teaching, and
there are different types of approach in teaching that I have
learned from my respected lectures Madam Nirmala and
Madam Izzati. Creating lesson plans is not as easy as what
other people thought it was. I always wanted to put the best
effort into creating my lesson because I want it to be
meaningful for my pupils in the future. The reason why I
wanted to study in the field of education is because I
appreciate educators out there spending their time thinking
about fun activities that can be included in their lesson.
In a nutshell, I believe that this Microteaching class is very
helpful and I am one step ahead in preparing myself for
future teaching, especially for the upcoming internship. I
am motivated by how Madam Nirmala and Madam Izzati
teached us with patience for the whole semester. I am
blessed with the knowledge I gained in Microteaching class,
and I will certainly be eager to apply the new skills that I
have learned for my teaching experience in the future.

WEEK 1 LECTURE 4 JULY 2022
(MONDAY)
TOPIC 1: INTRODUCTION TO
MICROTEACHING
On the first day of Microteaching lecture, Madam Nirmala introduced us to
the topic that we are going to learn throughout the semester, and also
briefly explained the assessments that we will be doing for Project 1 and
Project 2. For project 1 we are required to work in a group of 5 members, and
create 5 lesson plans with 5 different types of visual aids. Meanwhile, for our
project 2 it will be an individual assessment which is a mock teaching with a
duration of 15 minutes demonstration in the classroom. After explaining on
the topics and also the assessments, Madam Nirmala taught us on Topic 1
about “Teaching and Mircroteaching” which is about identifying the
components of teaching, and the concept, characteristics, and context of
microteaching. Since this is our short semester, all the topics must be done
within six weeks of lecture class, as well as presentation on our projects.

LECTURE 5 JULY 2022
(TUESDAY)
DSKP & LESSON PLAN
On the next day of lecture class, Madam Nirmala taught us on the DSKP
before we started to focus on how to write a proper lesson plan for
secondary level. In DSKP there are lots of important contents that a teacher
must remember and keep in mind. This is because DSKP is one of the main
references to look at when planning the lesson plan according to the
student’s level of proficiency. Besides, in DSKP there is also an updated
version from the previous version that we need to pay attention to, which is
the Cross-Curricular Elements from 6 elements and now there are 4 new
elements added into it.

TUTORIAL 6 JULY 2022
GROUP TASK (WEDNESDAY)
After being taught on the introduction of microteaching and the DSKP,
Madam Izzati gave us a task to do during tutorial class which is to answer a
total of 10 questions from the slides. All the questions are related to what we
have learned during lecture class and to test our understanding about the
components of KSSM and the examples of how these concepts will be
applied in teaching and learning. We are doing the task in groups of 3 and
each group will be focusing on 1 question and after that each group will be
presenting their answers to the classmates. From today’s task, I am able to
understand more in depth the differences between the concept of KSSM and
CEFR. This is because we are looking into the reasons for the formation of
CEFR and then we get to identify the main or the objectives of CEFR.

LESSON PLAN (THURSDAY)
In today's tutorial class, we are required
to create a complete lesson plan by
ourselves by following the format given
by Madam Nirmala in Google Classroom.
The format of the lesson plan given by
Madam is the updated format used in
secondary school nowadays and it was
totally different from the previous format
that we used to write during my diploma
which is for primary level. There are
certains parts in the lesson plan that I am
unsure what to write in that particular
column as it was new to me. Hence, I am
glad that Madam Izzati was there to guide
us and correct certain parts needed. It
was fine to make a mistake on the first try
of creating a lesson plan since Madam
Nirmala hasn't taught us on the next topic
which is focusing on how to write the
lesson plan especially the learning
objectives, set induction, the activities,
and lastly the closure part.

WEEK 2 LECTURE 12 JULY 2022
(MONDAY)
TOPIC 2:
TEACHING & LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Based on today’s topic, Madam Nirmala
taught us about learning objectives and
the roles of learning objectives in lesson
planning. Based on my understanding,
learning objectives are the teacher's
intention and what we intend to achieve
when we go to the classroom and perform
teaching. Besides, we also learned about
the S.M.A.R.T method which is a method
used in creating learning objectives for
the lesson plan. There are also ABCD
methods taught to guide us on how to
construct sentences for learning
objectives by following the statements of
learning objectives. As an example, A
stands for the audience which is the pupil.
B stands for Behaviour which is the
action or the verb that we wished the
pupils to do for the activity. C stands for
condition which is about the requirement
from the verb given and lastly D stands
for degree which is the target amount of
questions that the pupils need to answer
for the particular activity.

STATEMENTS OF LEARNING OBJECTIVES
A- AUDIENCE
B-BEHAVIOUR
C-CONDITION
D-DEGREE
For today’s tutorial class, we are given a task where we are required to
pick a set of content standards and learning standards from any form and
skill. In groups of 3, we are required to produce 3 learning objectives
based on the CS and LS chosen. The 3 statements should be from 3
different levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Most importantly, we need to
follow the statements of learning objectives learned in lecture class which
is the ABCD method in order to have a complete sentence by including all
the elements needed in the sentence. Furthermore, by working with my
members Cassandra and Krisha, they help me a lot since we get to correct
each other whenever we misunderstood or unclear about something. It
was easier to complete a task when we get to sit in a group to discuss and
also exchange ideas to make a better outcome. By doing today’s task, I
realized the importance of referring to the ABCD method when creating
the learning objectives because in order to be confident with our learning
objectives, we have to make sure that all the elements are included in the
sentence. 10
TUTORIAL 14 JULY 2022
PRESENTATION (THURSDAY)
For today’s tutorial class, the class is conducted at the meeting room at
level 11. The activity for today is related to yesterday’s task which is to
present on the learning objectives that we have created by following the
statements of learning objectives taught by Madam Nirmala. Each group
will send one representative to present their work at the front of the
classroom, and I am the one presenting our learning objectives to my
classmates. We received positive feedback from Madam Izzati because
our learning objectives have included the statements of LO. Besides, we
get to listen to the other group's learning objectives and get to learn
something from their mistakes so that we get to improve and not repeat
the mistakes. By presenting our work at the front of the classroom is
actually a good practice for everyone to improve our speaking skills and
also to train us to be confident when talking at the front of the classroom.
This is because we still feel nervous when the lecturer calls our name to
present at the front even though we have done it countless times.
11
WEEK 3 LECTURE 18 JULY 2022
(MONDAY)
TOPIC 3: SET INDUCTION
Based on today’s topic 3, Madam
Nirmala taught us on the set induction
in the first stage of teaching in the
classroom. Before Madam started
teaching, we watched a short video
about a student conducting mock
teaching for the set induction in the
classroom setting. Based on the video,
we get to watch how she started her
class with interesting materials and the
questioning techniques used during the
set induction to attract the pupil’s
attention. From this topic, I gained lots
of new information about the
techniques that can be used to start a
lesson. First of all, there are a total of 4
strategies that must be used in the set
induction, starting with attention
getting method, interest method,
putting lesson into context, and lastly
advanced organizers. Each of these
methods has its own specific criteria that we can follow in order to make sure
that we get to introduce the topic of the lesson with the time limit which is 5
to 6 minutes. In conclusion, it is important to start the lesson with eye
catching materials that can attract the pupils attention to begin the lesson.
Last but not least, keep the set induction easy as in visual and factual, and try
to make it short but at the same time we get to finish introducing the topic
and the learning objectives of the lesson. 12
LECTURE 19 JULY 2022
(TUESDAY)
TOPIC 7: TEACHING AIDS IN
LANGUAGE TEACHING
Today’s class is focusing on the new topic
which is from topic 7 about types of teaching
aids in language teaching. At the end of the
lesson, we get to identify the role and
functions of teaching aids in teaching and
learning. Besides, we also get to identify types
of teaching aids for language learning. Based
on today’s class, madam Nirmala taught us
different types of teaching aids used by
teachers in school from traditional classroom
to modern classroom. There are traditional
tools used by teachers in the past to deliver the
lesson, and there are lots of advanced tools
that can be used by teachers to improve our
teaching and lessons in the classroom. There
are 3 types of teaching aids introduced by
madam Nirmala in the topic which is visual
aids, audio aids, and lastly the combination of
audio-visual aids. Furthermore, teaching aids
play an important role in teaching language in
the classroom, since there are lots of benefits
that we can gain by using different types of
teaching aids. Most importantly, it is
important to consider which teaching aids are
suitable for the classroom setting before
bringing it to the classroom. This is because we
want to make sure that the teacher is
comfortable in using the teaching aids in the
classroom without facing any problems. 13

SET INDUCTION (4 STRATEGIES)
For today’s tutorial class, we are required to work in groups, and based on
the 4 set induction strategies learned in lecture class taught by Madam
Nirmala, we need to create 2 activities that we can carry out for each strategy
given. Besides, we need to create activities for both learning situations which
are online and physical learning. For this task, I am working with my friends
Cassandra, Krisha, and Landon. First of all, we chose a topic from form 3
Unit 2 with the topic called ‘Food, Food, Food!’ Creating activities for online
and physical learning are two different settings, and because of that we need
to plan properly on how to handle pupils online or in a physical classroom.
For example, when planning for an activity on an online platform, we have to
make sure that all pupils have access to the internet to be able to participate
in the activities. Meanwhile, for physical learning we can create activities
that are based on hands-on activities where pupils can physically and actively
participate in the activities conducted in the classroom. Most importantly,
when planning the activities it is important to make sure that the materials
created are suitable based on the situation that the pupils are in.

CREATE 1 TEACHING AIDS
For today’s tutorial class, we are required to work in our group and create a
teaching aid that we can use in classroom learning. Based on the teaching aid that
we created, it should be able to be used in 3 different activities in the same lesson.
The teaching aid that we created is related to the topic called 'Journey' where
pupils will have a journey to move from one place to another. Based on the map
that we have created, it was made of manilla cards, and we drew different types of
buildings on colour papers such as police station, school, hospital, supermarket,
bus station and many more buildings. We can think of many interesting activities
by using the topic journey because it was a fun topic to teach the pupils. For the
first activity for our teaching aid, we will give an audio where the pupils will listen
to it, and identify which buildings that the audio is referring to. This activity will
be focusing on the pupil’s listening skill. Second activities are focused on the
pupil’s speaking skill in which they have to conduct a conversation between two
people. For example, one will be asking directions, and the other person will be
giving proper directions based on the map that we have provided. Lastly, the
pupils have to replace the buildings that we have designed on the teaching aids
provided. Pupils have to justify why they relocate the buildings based on their
own opinions. Last but not least, it was always fun when creating activities for
pupils because I enjoyed creating the materials and I believed that it can help the
teacher to make the lesson easier to understand for the pupils. 15
WEEK 4 LECTURE 25 JULY 2022
(MONDAY)
TOPIC 4:
STIMULUS VARIATION
For today’s lecture class, we learned about
Topic 4 called Stimulus Variation and also
known as classroom management technique
which is one of the important things to learn
as a teacher. This is because teachers should
learn how to control the pupils to maintain
their attention during the lesson.
Madam Nirmala gave us a task to look for a
strategy that we can do in the classroom to
keep pupils engaged in the lesson. There
are lots of interesting ideas given by us on
how to catch the pupil’s attention in class.
As a teacher, we should be prepared with
different kinds of situations in handling
the pupil’s behavior in the classroom.
After that, we also learned a few factors
that could get pupil's attention such as
intensity, contrast, body movement, the
audio-visual aids, and lastly teacher’s
behaviour. Based on all these factors, we
need to choose a topic of our interest ,
and deliver in the classroom and plan the
stimulus variation strategies that we can
use. 16
LECTURE 26 JULY 2022
(TUESDAY)
TOPIC 5:
QUESTIONING TECHNIQUES
Today’s topic is one of my favourite things to learn which is from Topic 5 called
questioning techniques. It is important to learn on how to give questions to pupils,
but it is also important to learn on how to handle pupil’s responses in the classroom.
Hence, there are several types of questioning techniques that we have learned in
today’s lecture and one of them was to use the 5W in our questions. And most
importantly is to apply Bloom's Taxonomy when constructing the questions to the
pupils. There are two types of questions which start from lower level questions
which is to evaluate pupil’s preparation and comprehension. And moving on to
higher level questions which encourage the pupils to think more deeply and
critically.
Besides, we also learned the 3 strategies on handling pupils' responses in the
classroom. The first one is the strategies to use when pupils respond, such as giving
reinforcement which compliments them when giving the right answer. Second is
the strategies for responding to student’s questions such as trying to redirect the
question to the class. Third is the strategies to use when pupils don’t respond which
we can try to rephrase our questions for the pupils to understand better on what we
are asking. 17

TEACHING AIDS PRESENTATION&
DISCUSSION ON ASSIGNMENT
For today’s tutorial class, we are presenting the teaching aids that we have
created in last week’s tutorial class. Each group will be demonstrating on
how they will be using their teaching aids for 3 different activities in their
lesson. For our group demonstration, we called out a few classmates to come
to the front of the classroom to participate in the activities that we have
planned. The first activity is where the pupils will listen to the audio, and
identify which place that the audio is describing. Second activity is where the
pupils will be doing a role play on giving instructions to someone on how to
go to a destination based on the map provided. Third activity is where the
pupils will be discussing in groups and rearranging the building in the map
into a proper location based on their own justifications.

DEVELOP 6 QUESTIONS FROM BLOOM'S
TAXONOMY
For today’s tutorial class, Madam Nirmala
asked us to sit in our groups and we need to
choose any topics that we are interested in,
and develop 6 questions from the topic
chosen. Besides, we need to create one
question for each level of Bloom’s Taxonomy
which consists of 6 levels which is
remember, understand, apply, analyze,
evaluate, and create. The task for today
required us to be creative and use our critical
thinking skills on making sure that the
questions that we create must be
interrelated with each other. In addition to
that, the topic that we chose is from a movie
called ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and we try to
make the questions interesting and followed
Bloom's Taxonomy which started from easy
questions to higher order thinking questions
for the pupils. From today’s activity, I
learned how to create questions by following
Bloom's Taxonomy and also used the
questioning techniques taught by Madam
Nirmala in topic 5. By following Bloom's
Taxonomy, it will be easier for us to create
questions to match with the pupil's
proficiency.
19
WEEK 5 LECTURE 1 AUGUST 2022
(MONDAY)
TOPIC 6:
REINFORCEMENT STRATEGIES
Today’s class is based on Topic 6 called
‘Reinforcement Strategies.” There are 2 types
of reinforcement which are positive and
negative reinforcement. From today’s class
we learned how to give verbal praises to
compliment the pupils and there are also
many ways of giving positive reinforcement
in the classroom. For negative reinforcement,
is the actions that we take to make sure that
the pupils would not repeat the unwanted
behavior in the classroom.
By using positive reinforcement
in the classroom, it will bring
benefits for teaching and learning
sessions. This is because it will
increase the pupil’s engagement
in the lesson when we are paying
attention and give reactions to
what they are doing during the
activities.
Lastly, we also did an activity where we
discussed types of reinforcement and what
are the examples that we can do under each
category. For example, there are many words
that we can use for verbal praises in the
classroom. I personally like to use verbal
praise on my pupils because I realize that
they become more active to answer the
questions to get the praises from the teacher.
20
LECTURE 2 AUGUST 2022
(TUESDAY)
TOPIC 7:
CLOSURE IN A LESSON
Today is the last topic of Microteaching
subject which is Topic 7 about closure in a
lesson. After learning how to start a lesson,
how to conduct the activity, and the use of
teaching aids in the classroom, now we are
focusing on how to recap the lesson. Before
this, I think closure is nothing much, just a
simple and short recap on the lesson of the
day. But after Madam Nirmala taught us on
this topic, I realized that closure is also an
important stage that teachers must put
effort into. This is because closure helps the
pupils to have a better understanding of
what they have learned and to make sure
that they achieved the learning objectives
that we set at the beginning of the classroom
so that they can apply it to the world around
them. From what I have experienced during
my internship in the past, I get to write my
feedback based on the pupil’s response
during the recap session. This is because I
always give opportunities for the pupils to
share what they have learned during the
lesson, and I get to summarize my teaching
whether I get to achieve my learning
objectives or what are the areas that I need
to improve in the future. Not only that, we
get to learn different ways of ending a
lesson effectively. There are lists provided
by Madam Nirmala, and we get to discuss a
few ways and how to conduct the short
activity as a closure. 21

EVIDENCE
TOPIC:
USING MULTIMEDIA IN
TEACHING
22
3 AUGUST 2022 - 4 AUGUST 2022
USING MULTIMEDIA IN
TEACHING
23
24
For Project 1, we are required to work in a group and develop 5 sets of
teaching aids that are appropriate for 21st century ESL teaching and
learning for secondary school students. All 5 lesson plans must be
based on the four language skills which are reading, writing,
listening, and speaking skill. The topic chosen must be from the
KSSM/CEFR curriculum of any form. We are working in a group of 4
members, and we have been working really hard to come out with
ideas for our teaching aids.
Firstly, we started the project by sitting down together and discussing
which topic that we are going to choose. We have been changing our
topics because we need to make sure that we can create 5 different
teaching aids and different activities for the particular topic that we
chose. Then, we finally decided on choosing the topic from form 3,
Unit 3 ‘The Wonders of Nature.’ Each of us is getting 1 main skill and
trying to write a complete lesson plan before we conduct the next
meeting to make an improvement for our lesson plan or activities that
we have planned in the lesson plan.
By doing so, we can complete the project on time because everyone is
doing their part after we approve each other’s ideas on the lesson
plans as well as teaching aids. I enjoyed working on the project with
my group members because we believed we did well and gave our best
on creating the teaching aids. I hope I can create something creative
and innovative for my future students in the classroom so that they
will be able to learn the lesson while having fun by using the teaching
aids created by me.

TASK A- MOCK TEACHING
CHAPTER 3-8
TASK B- E PORTFOLIO
26
17 AUGUST 2022
PROJECT 2 REFLECTIONS
MOCK TEACHING APPENDIX:
ZOOM MOCK TEACHING
27
For project 2, it was an individual project with two tasks, which is the
mock teaching and second, we are required to create a portfolio of
learning and reflective evidence based on classroom and personal
activities which are related with all the lessons that we have learned
through the Microteaching subject. For mock teaching, the lesson
plan should only be 15 minutes long which includes set induction, an
activity, and closure.
From doing project 2, I get to experience another practice of teaching
in front of my classmates and recognize my weaknesses after getting
feedback from Madam Izzati and my classmates. Even though there
are last minute changes for our mock teaching, such as physical to
online mock teaching, and last minute changes to my lesson plan
which I have planned earlier, I was relieved to receive positive
comments from Madam Izzati.
Moreover, I got to apply some of the techniques taught by Madam
Nirmala and it went well even though during the online mock
teaching, I got issues with my internet and laptop. One thing that I
learned is how to be flexible with physical and online teaching in any
situation. This is because I need to think effectively on how to change
my lesson which was originally planned for physical class into online
teaching. It was great to experience the online teaching and learning
session again because I did my internship online for a few weeks
during the pandemic.
Last but not least, I am thankful for all the experience gained through
this semester and I hope that I will apply all these techniques learned
in my future teaching as an educator in school. I am satisfied with my
hard work for both projects, because me and my group members have
a great teamwork in completing the task given. 28
