Welcome to Fruita, CO!
Fruita, Colorado is a place like no other. With
beautiful landscapes, a wide variety of recreation for
all seasons, and so many local businesses to explore,
Fruita is truly a unique place to spend time in. Want
to go digging for dinosaur bones? Or ride a mountain
bike across red rock terrain?
Fruita is an adventure-lover’s paradise. Fruita offers
easy access to the Colorado National Monument, the
Kokopelli bike trail, which runs from Fruita to Moab,
and plenty of opportunities for camping, rafting,
hiking and golf. Dig into ancient history at the
Dinosaur Journey Museum, or explore some of
Colorado’s pristine natural wonders. The town of
Fruita sits on the banks of the Colorado River, a few
miles downstream from Grand Junction, and offers
visitors magnificent high-desert scenery and
unforgettable experiences.
Mad racing Colorado presents:
The 7th Annual Desert’s Edge Triathlon Festival (DETF)
September 8-9, 2018 at Highline Lake State Park. DETF
brings you two days of racing, a weekend of camping
with other triathletes and their fans, and a fun end to the
Colorado Tri Season. Desert's Edge weekend includes
your choice of XTERRA Sprint (not eligible for points) or
XTERRA Tri on Saturday, your choice of Sprint or Olympic
distance road tri’s on Sunday!
Camping is available right at the race site, just 200 yards
from the start and finish line. Enjoy great post-race food,
and a fun final tri weekend of the 2018 season. All just a
few short hours from Denver and Salt Lake City!
MAD Racing Colorado’s vision is to enrich people’s lives
by providing an environment to recognize their full
potential. Providing affordable quality events while
supporting local businesses and building community is
the MAD mission. DETF’s success is made possible with

• Stay within the singletrack tread and pass in areas that allow
for safe and responsible passing and do not cut corners. Participants
that need to dismount from their bicycle should move their bike and
themselves off the trail in a manner that doesn’t impact the soil or
vegetation. Avoid touching the delicate, black crust on the soil
(cryptobiotic soil).
• All biking participants are required to wear a helmet that complies with
U.S. CPSC safety standards for bicycle helmets.
• Each participant is expected to complete the entire course. If they do
not complete the entire course, the participant is considered a Did Not
Finish (DNF). If a participant is a DNF they should not cross the finish
line upon return to the start/finish-line area. They are expected to
report to the Timing Tent at any stage, to inform Event Timing they are
no longer on the course and did not complete the ride.
• Each participant must be considerate of other participants when
passing or being passed. Verbal communication and/or the use of a bell
are necessary for a successful pass. When being passed, please provide
adequate space when available for the faster participants to go by.
• Always abide by the laws and rules of the road and/or governing land
agency when appropriate. The roads are not managed and regulated
during the event. Use caution!
• Headphones connected to MP3 players or similar devices that prohibit
a participant’s ability to hear activity around them are not permitted.
• Littering is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
• Thank the volunteers; the event couldn’t happen without them.
• Please consider spectating at the designated spectator zones and
respect the surrounding soils / vegetation.

Audubon Society designated the park an

We'll have plenty of good food to fill your belly at our post-race picnic! Participant meals are included in
your entry fee. There will be a limited number of picnic lunches available for purchase by spectators on
race day. We will also award lots of sponsor merchandise and gift certificates at random during our awards
presentation – all racers are eligible for these random prizes, so be sure to stick around!!!
Each finisher (all races) will take home a 2018 Desert's Edge finisher glass! These will be given as you exit
the finish chute.
DETF Medals will be given to the top 3 overall M/F (If an age-grouper places top 3 overall they will NOT
double up in their age-group for awards).
AGE GROUP DIVISIONS:DETF Medals to the top 3 M/F finishers in each of the following age
groups: 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69,
70-74, 75-79, 80+.
CLYDESDALE, ATHENA, & CHALLENGED: Males over 220lbs. and females over 165lbs. Prizes
will be awarded to the top Clydesdale and Athena finishers. Clydesdale/Athena are not eligible for
age-group awards.
RELAY TEAMS:Teams of 2 or 3 competitors may race in the relay team category. There are three
divisions of teams (men’s, women’s, and coed).
