Head of Secondary
It is an understatement to say the last three years have been
a challenge for our BCISB Secondary Students. Middle
and high school should be a time of stress-free fun
learning at school with your friends, not learn-
ing online behind a computer all day during a
pandemic. The resiliency our students have
shown the last three years is remarkable. I
commend and celebrate all of our students,
parents, teachers, and staff for pulling to-
gether and finishing this year off positively.
To end the year with events like Song Khran,
iCamp, field trips, International Day, awards,
Prom, and Graduation has lifted all of our spir-
its. I cannot wait to see what the future holds
for all of our BEARS. Finally, best of luck to our
graduating Grade 12 BEARS, you will be missed!
- Mr. Mitch

Grade 6
What a year for grade 6! We started off slow and as
strangers during online learning. Once we got back to
learning on campus we took off and became fast friends!
This group has learned and improved so much while ad-
justing to middle school and navigating the challenges of
Covid-19. I am proud of all the Grade 6 students!

This was a memorable year full with challenges and happy memories. We
began learning online, then went back to school on and off. Despite this, we
were able to create unforgettable moments, gain new knowledge, and de-
velop positive relationships. I could go on and on about how glad I am to have
been a part of this class, but there isn’t enough room; we would not have
made it this far without all of you. Thank you so much for everything, and I
wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Grade 8
Grade 8’s you managed to keep going in the face of a global pandemic, which was
no easy task. During your time at BCISB you have been provided with additional skills,
knowledge, and experience to make a difference in your life and the life of others. The
end of Middle School is just the end of one chapter in your life. Through learning from
peers, your teachers, and yourself, you are set to begin the next chapter in your life. In
the words of Margaret Mead, ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed
citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has’. To all of you,
thoughtful and committed citizens, I wish you every success in the next chapter of your
life.

It’s been an eventful year for all of us, but the ninth graders have kept
a positive attitude throughout it all. Whether it comes to decorating
our classroom or dressing up for themed activities, ninth grade has
always let their school pride shine through. As this year comes to an
end, and their journey towards graduation continues, I am sure that
they will all continue to represent BCISB in the greatest way possible;
by being themselves.

Our Music
Mr. Daniel Salgado

(Nu) (Pop)
BCISB had an exciting year in the Music department with students from
all divisions of the school. This school year presented its challenges sur-
rounding the restrictions of Covid-19 but I am very impressed with our stu-
dents’ drive for excellence regardless of the obstacles that they faced.
We had our first concert this school year during the Merry Little Christmas Par-
ty that happened in December. Highlights from this event included students
dressing up in festive themed costumes and singing and dancing to the clas-
sic holiday songs and carols. It was a great opportunity to have all members
of our community, including parents, celebrate the holiday season together.
After the Winter Break, students were challenged to take part in the an-
nual BCISB Artsfest and this year we did a hybrid of Artsfest that includ-
ed a video recording of the students performing which was then streamed
and played in homeroom classes to prevent the spread of the virus. Stu-
dents from Grades 1 to Grade 12 had the opportunity to perform a variety of
songs and dance to showcase their talent. Artfest is always a hit at BCISB
and we hope that next school year we will be able to perform in person.
Another highlight from our Music department this year was bringing back
high school music as an elective course for our students. Contempo-
rary music was studied by students in Grades 11 and 12 and they were suc-
cessfully able to perform and present their portfolio in an end of year
music recital. It was great to see them grow as musicians and to work
with them individually to share and reflect upon their passion for music.
The music department at BCISB is excited for the future growth of our depart-
ment. Over the summer months the music rooms will be renovated and new
equipment will be provided to help boost our program for the next academic
year and the future. We are looking forward to taking our talented students to the
next level which will include competitions and concerts of many different genres.
Have a great summer, BCISB!
