The engine is a 2023 Pierce Enforcer Engine and seats six firefighters, carries 1,000 gallons of water, and is equipped with plenty of tools for various types of operations. The design of the engine was based around a low hose bed and a short wheelbase—the latter of which will help the fire company serve the recent expansion of housing developments on the north side of the township. Simplicity and functionality were the top priorities in the design of this engine, and 49-3 is well equipped to serve current and future needs. The new engine replaces a Branchburg Township engine first put into service in 1994—completing an impressive 30-year replacement life cycle. North Branch Fires Up Engine 3 Check out 49-3 at one of the many fire company community events this fall. Follow @NBVFC49 on Facebook. This new engine would not be possible without the support of the Branchburg community. The fire company would like to, in particular, thank the taxpayers of Branchburg—for their North Branch Volunteer Fire Co. Engine 49-3 unwavering support of the department and members, the Branchburg Township Committee—for their commitment to ensuring the highest standards of emergency service and volunteerism in the township, and the administrative staff at Town Hall—who work tirelessly to see that projects like this are completed smoothly for all involved.

UNDER CONTRACT 320 Walnut St., Middlesex Looking for similar results? Michelle Amaral, BSN, RN, of Branchburg, received the Daisy Award for Hunterdon Health on July 25. The award is part of the Daisy Foundation’s program to recognize the clinical skill and the compassion nurses provide to patients and families every day. A patient’s family wrote, “My 94-year-old father stayed on 5 West for at least a week before going to rehab. He had heart failure and other issues related to it so he was a patient who needed special care. Although all the nurses were attentive, Michelle was exceptional and memorable because of her cheery bedside manner. Additionally, I was impressed by her knowledge of nursing and science. When my father was moved to rehab a few things were left behind including a photo of my father in his youth. Michelle took the time and care to put aside these things and give me a call. She went above her obligations and I really appreciate it. Nursing is a demanding job – no doubt about it! Michelle is a great asset and has a wonderful bedside approach to her patients.” The not-for-profit Daisy Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families. The Daisy Award has been adopted by 3,500 health care facilities and schools of nursing in all 50 states and 21 other countries, committed to honoring their nurses for their extraordinary care and compassion. Individual nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues and they are chosen by a Hunterdon Health committee. “We are proud to be among the healthcare organizations participating in the Daisy Award program. Nurses are heroes every day. It’s important that our nurses know their work is highly valued, and The Daisy Foundation provides a way for us to do that,” said Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services, Mary Jo Loughlin, DNP, RN, NEABC, Hunterdon Health. Cup sizes available up to K By Lisa McKeown Three Bridges Reformed Church will celebrate 150 years of service to the community on Sunday, Sept. 17. Worship will begin at 10:15 a.m. (nursery care is available) followed by a barbecue luncheon catered by Dan’s Backyard Bar-B-Que. On July 6, 1873, the Three Bridges Reformed Church was born, as the first leadership board (known as a Consistory) was installed to serve the fledgling congregation of 30 members. It was from these humble beginnings that a community of faith emerged that both felt led to gather together while at the same time reaching out to care for those around them. That faithful DNA has continued to reveal itself in a multitude of ways across the generations. It is from that place of reaching out that Three Bridges invites all its neighbors to its 150th Anniversary Celebration. This is a community of faith that is dedicated to serving its community by loving the world around them as they have first been loved. The celebration on the 17th will celebrate the church’s history while looking forward toward all that is about to be revealed. Interested in learning more? Benefit Concert Sept. 10 Three Bridges Reformed Church will host the Bernards Ensemble on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. The Bernards Ensemble is a musical group that was formed in 2016 to spread awareness about those with mental disabilities. A group of young musicians committed to this mission have held a benefit concert annually. This year, the benefit concert is not only to anchor the mission for supporting people with mental illnesses, but also to celebrate Three Bridges Reformed Church’s 150th anniversary in the community. Donations will be used to help organizations such as the Arc of Somerset, an organization that helps those with developmental disabilities. The public is invited to come out, enjoy the beautiful music, support the mission, and be part of the Three Bridges celebration.

Branchburg, SP $1,199,000 The deep green, late summer foliage, stood silent witness to what felt like an endless summer, but the blushing native dogwood could not keep the imperceptible approach of autumn and its conflagration of color a secret any longer. A gentle wink of scarlet, the size of a bushel basket, in the crown of one dogwood, was an unmistakable sign summer would soon boldly transition into autumn fire. To affirm the dogwood’s blush, the black walnut trees shower the ground with bright yellow leaflets. The wind, trailing a passing thunderstorm, cleared the clouds to reveal the blue sky, against which the still-anchored gold leaflets stood in bold contrast. Errant gusts of wind swept willing leaflets into dense yellow clouds to lay a carpet on the bright green grass below. The walnut’s redundant message ensured an upward or downward glance would repeat the same message, change is coming, and summer’s end is nigh. Oak trees serve an appetizer of acorns, delivered well before the cold weather sets in. Impatient squirrels, unable to wait for fallen acorns, scamper among the branches, dropping more than they can harvest. Deer will suddenly shift their diet to acorns and can be seen at midday, ravenously consuming all that fall to the ground. Gradually, the oaks use brilliant shades of red, scarlet and fluorescent orange to advertise their end of summer “all you can eat” fest. “Closing for the winter, all acorns must go,” the message is a disguised attempt by the oaks to ensure their propagation by the spread of errant acorns by chance or by squirrel. Not only are the trees hinting autumn’s approach, meadows and fields light up with a profusion of scattered beacons and clouds of color. Viewed from afar, the flowers appear as pinpoint portals of colored light emerging from a rainbow hidden beneath a vast green carpet. Upon closer exam, the colors expand into identifiable blooms. Ironweed is now in full bloom in naturalized meadows, pastures, and fields. This is one of my favorites as the flowers are a fathom deep shade of purple. A real attention getter stands in contrast to the conservative earth tones and champagne-colored grasses from which it emerges. Ironweed is another dashboard light, displaying a warning, autumn is not far around the bend. Light blue flowers of chicory, a variety of sunflower, joins its yellow petaled family of black-eyed susan and wild sunflowers to add diversity to the spectrum of color signaling the last days of summer. Native cardinal flowers are late summer blooms that last into early September. Where these intense, blood red velvety blooms appear, lingering hummingbirds will feed consistently to fuel up for fall migration. Touch me not, a variety of salvia, also found in moist soil, features cornucopia shaped yelloworange flowers on a succulent stem. Migrating hummingbirds relish a stopover to replenish energy stores. Small patches of touch-me-not, the deer failed to vanquish, are excellent places to find hummers during the transition into autumn. Thistle is now mature, topped with dark pink spikey blooms, Joe pye-weed, false mullein, fleabane, asters, queen Anne’s lace and ragweed, make their presence known in a last hurrah of summer color. Stands of teasel appear as bold brown spiked scepters to dominate the thick pasture grasses and profusion of spent water hemlock. Green leaves of Virginia creeper and poison ivy vines, which hang as draperies interspersed among the tree tops, turn scarlet and purple to compliment the colorful foliage. The trees are now elegantly dressed in preparation for the formal celestial dance of the planets to celebrate the moment of the autumnal equinox. Spider webs block every open space in the late summer woods and can be viewed as messages written in the finest script, warning of winter’s approach. Knowing the periodicity of the seasons over time, the signs of autumn’s approach should not be taken as a warning, instead it is best viewed as a featured item listed on the endless menu of natural wonders that extend from the ocean’s depth to the distant stars. Prepare to enjoy the brilliant color of fall. To quote Robert Louis Stevenson, it is more blessed to journey than arrive. Contact [email protected]. See more articles and photos at winterbearrising.wordpress.com. At First Blush A young hummingbird immerses itself in a late summer native cardinal flower. Notice the white streak on the hummer’s head. It is pollen deposited by the flower’s reproductive structures. As the bird feeds, it completes the act of pollination in exchange for a hearty meal.

He devoted free time to serve as warm up partner for a member of the girls’ team as well as wrestling all year, encouraging his teammates to adopt the same work ethic. He has captained Pioneer Wrestling all four years and achieved the coveted 100 wins. Five years ago, Sept. 2018– It was often wrongly called the “Branchburg Walmart,” on Route 22 West in Readington, and it closed in Feb. 2018 to be converted into a medical marijuana growing and processing facility. By the summer of 2018, the conversion of the 120,000- squarefoot building was well underway, with construction trucks replacing the vehicles of shoppers in the former Walmart parking lot. Ten years ago, Sept. 2013 – Senator Kip Bateman of Branchburg was honored by state and county police for sponsoring Dano’s Law, which helps protect police animals by elevating them to team member status.
