EXALTED RULER

Greetings Fellow Elks:

Let’s start with a BIG HEARTFELT THANK YOU to
Deven Parmar, our 2012-2013 excellent Exalted Ruler.
With his entourage, they remodeled both the Del Rey Room and Colum-
bus Room, had a very successful car show, a super chili cook-off and
spearheaded numerous events. When you see him around the Lodge,
wish him well and perhaps buy him an adult drink or two for all his
work.

Thank you to all who have trusted me to be your Exalted Ruler. Please
welcome your 2013-2014 officers: Craig Bromberger/Leading Knight;
Richard Duarte/Loyal Knight; Tony Pacheco/Lecturing Knight; Patty
Crockett PER/Secretary; Sandy McDowell/Treasurer; Candis Hawkes/
Esquire; Ken Dufva/Inner Guard; Travis Hartman/Assistant Inner Guard;
Brian Tomazic/Chaplain, and our most loyal Tiler Marty Trouillon. To-
gether with your help we will work to increase our membership, be more
visible in the community, raise a ton of money for our Major Project and
Elks National Foundation, all while having fun at the Lodge.

If you missed our Food Truck Night, you missed a great time. Thanks to
Rudy for coordinating this successful night. Our goal is to make this an
ongoing membership drive event.

As we begin our new fraternal year, please join us for at least one meet-
ing a month. Also, make a commitment to chair, co chair or volunteer to
help with an upcoming event. Help is always needed setting up, selling
tickets, working the front door, tearing down and foremost introduce the
Lodge to your friends and family. Remember our Lodge is only as good
as you are as a member.

Thanks again for putting your confidence in me and my terrific board.

Fraternally,

Kathy Grant

Fellow Lodge Members:

Greetings from the station of Brotherly Love.

I am excited and ready to delve into the responsibilities of this
office, and hope that I can count on your support and assis-
tance to guide me through this new and exciting Fraternal
Year.

For that matter, we, your newly elected Officers, encourage your involvement
and support, with an open door policy, on your comments or suggestions. At-
tend regular business meetings to express your thoughts and ideas, and interact
with fellow members. Get involved and feel the real energy of the Lodge.

Without being repetitive to articles published herewith by other Officers,
please make note of all activities and events planned for in the April – May
Whisper Calendar. Plan to attend these events, or if you are available to serve
or chair on any Committees related to the various events, please contact me at
[email protected]. We are always in need of your help.

I’d like to extend my congratulations to Mark J. Meyer, past Esteemed Lectur-
ing Knight, on being recognized as the Officer of the Year by then Exalted
Ruler, Deven Parmar, at his recent ER Fade-Out event. Job well done, Mark.

On February 16, 2013, Doc Sachen, PER of the Westchester Elks Lodge #2050
was presented the "President’s Silver Eagle Award" from CHEA President Art
Echternacht for 40+ years of dedication and many accomplishments to Elkdom.
The Eagle statue was presented at the State President's Dinner in Redondo
Beach.

Westchester Elks members volunteered for the Valentines for Veterans Concert
at the VA Hospital in West Los Angeles on February 12, 2013. A check for
$2500 was also donated with funds from an ENF grant.

The Westchester Elks Lodge #2050 held their Annual Law Enforcement Appre-
ciation Night on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. It is the Westchester Elks' way of
paying tribute to those who have sworn to “Protect and Serve” our local com-
munity. Following a dinner, each Officer of the Year was recognized for their
outstanding service throughout 2012. Among the officers honored were Officer
Ken Chang of El Segundo, Detective Loyd Waters of Inglewood, Deputy April
Jameson and Deputy William Cordero of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department
Marina Del Rey Station, Detective Theodore Jones of the LAPD LAX Field
Service Division, Communications Information Representative III Denise Mi-
nor of the LAPD World Airports, Officers Jeffrey Chen and Daniel Zulueta of
the California Highway Patrol West L.A., and Officer William Perez of LAPD
Pacific Area. (See photos on previous page.)

And in other news, on February 26th member Roger Lewis was presented with
the President's Volunteer Service Award by Frank Frazier, PER, Santa Monica
Elks Lodge #906, District Chair of National Veterans Service Committee. The
President’s Volunteer Service Award is the premier volunteer awards program
encouraging United States citizens or lawfully admitted permanent residents of
the United States through presidential recognition to live a life of service. It is a
way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment
and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service. The award was pre-
sented on White House stationery and signed by President Obama and with an
official President’s Volunteer Service Award Pin. This award was instituted by
G. W. Bush in 2002 and has been awarded regularly ever since.
