Hellooooo, Rialto CommUNITY! I am thrilled to announce that July is Parks and Recreation Month — a time to celebrate the incredible significance of our parks and the outstanding efforts of our Parks and Recreation Department! Our parks are not just patches of green; they are the beating heart of our community, where families gather for picnics, friends meet for games, and individuals find solace in nature's embrace. These beautiful green spaces provide a backdrop for endless adventures, relaxation, and wellness activities. Why are parks so essential, you ask? Well, let me count the many ways: Our Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for everyone in our community. We work tirelessly to meet the diverse needs and interests of our residents through a wide range of programs and services. From youth sports leagues to senior fitness classes, there's something for everyone to enjoy and benefit from. But it's not just about what we offer; it's about the connections we build and the joy we bring. Our team is committed to creating memorable experiences and promoting active living. During Parks and Recreation Month, I invite you to join us in celebrating by taking advantage of our special programs and events. Our July calendar is packed with exciting activities for all ages, including fitness classes, movie in the Parks, and much more. It's the perfect time to try something new and create lasting memories with your loved ones. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram or Facebook and share your park adventures. We love seeing your photos and hearing about your experiences! With appreciation, Cynthia Alvarado DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION WHAT'S NEW Health and Wellness Parks offer a space for physical activities like walking, jogging, yoga, and team sports, promoting a healthier lifestyle for all ages. Community Bonding Parks serve as gathering spots for events, festivals, and concerts, fostering a sense of togetherness and strengthening community ties. Mental Respite Amidst our busy lives, parks provide a tranquil escape, reducing stress and improving mental well-being. Environmental Benefits Parks contribute to cleaner air, provide habitats for wildlife, and enhance the overall quality of our environment. 1. 2. 3. 4. @rialtoparksandrec follow us Use #Thatswhatwedo and #Whereyoubelong 4 CITY UPDATES

Pool discharge tips Maintain your pool properly and help protect the environment DID YOU KNOW Routine swimming pool maintenance generates a variety of wastes such as cleaning wastewater, filter back-wash residues, biocides and acid washes that can contribute to stormwater pollution. Chlorine and other pool chemicals can harm our waterways when they are discharged improperly. Check with your city for local requirements before discharging your pool to the storm drain or sewer. Alternative 1: Sanitary Sewer - Some cities allow pools to be drained to the sanitary sewer during non-peak hours. Alternative 2: Lawn or Garden - Discharge the pool water through the lawn or garden. The flow should be controlled to prevent erosion problems or the water entering a neighbor's property. For Saltwater Pools: Saltwater pools should only be drained to the to the sewer or hauled away. IMPORTANT Dispose of filter backwash solids in the trash or landscape area. Neutralize acid washes before discharging to the sewer. Do not discharge to the storm drain. De-chlorinate the water before draining the pool to the storm drain. Consult with your pool contractor before de-chlorinating the pool to learn about your options. Hold it Before You Drain It SHUT Hold TEST DRAIN Shut o the chlorination system or stop adding chlorine. Hold the water in the pool for at least 5 days or add a de-chlorinating agent. Use a pool testing kit to ensure the level of chlorine is at 0.1ppm before discharging the water. - Make sure all debris is removed and chemicals are dissipated. - pH of pool water should be between 6.5 and 8.5 before discharging. - Make sure the water is free of any discoloration, mosquitoes, dirt or algae. Summertime Traffic Safety During the summer children are out of school and will be more active in their neighborhoods, so we need to be extra cautious of our young bike riders. Summer Safety Tips For Drivers: Important Things You Can Do To Keep your child safe: • Be alert, especially in residential areas. • Expect the unexpected. • Obey all laws. • Be predictable. • Double-check behind you and around you when backing out of a driveway or parking space. • Don't be distracted. • Have your child wear a helmet every time he or she rides a bike–no exceptions. Wearing a helmet that fits well every time you're on a bike helps protect their face, head, and brain if they fall down. Just like that bike they ride, it should be the right size and not one that "will grow into." • Teach your child the rules of the road to keep him or her safe while riding. • Make sure your child's bike is kept in good working order. • Teach your child safe control of the bicycle. Both hands should be kept on the bike's handlebars. Books and other items should be carried in a backpack or a basket. And only one person should ride a bike at a time–no exceptions. • Make sure your child never wears headphones while bicycling. Your child needs to be able to hear oncoming traffic.
