It is the season when our city comes alive, when parks fill with laughter, neighbors become friends, and the spirit of community that makes Rialto so special reminds us all of why we are proud to call this place home. This summer, Rialto brings you moments that matter. Spread your blanket under the stars for Movies in the Park, free and open to all. Cheer on our first responders at the Battle of the Badges Pulled Pork Cook-Off (all proceeds benefit MADD) and celebrate our Route 66 heritage at the 31st Annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show & Cruise on 66. Join us at Jerry Eaves Park for our spectacular 4th of July Celebration, featuring fireworks, live music, games, and the kind of community energy that reminds us all just how lucky we are to live here. And mark your calendars for the MADD Inland Empire 5K this October. Our commitment to health and well-being shines bright as well, with the 7th Annual Men's Health Fair, Drowning Prevention & Safety Day, and Pet-A-Palooza & Pollution Prevention Fair all returning this season. I am also especially proud of our Summer Food Service Program partnership with Rialto Unified School District, providing free daily meals to children ages 1 through 18 across our city. No application. No barriers. Just nourishment, because every child in Rialto deserves to thrive. From Summer Camp for our youngest residents, to our seniors, there is truly something for everyone this summer. Rialto is more than a city. It is a community built on pride, resilience, and a genuine love for one another. Step outside, explore this edition of Rialto Progress, and let's create memories together. This is our summer. Let's make it one to remember.Warmly,Tanya WilliamsCity ManagerRialto Community MessageBridge Progress 2

BACKYARD COMPOSTINGHome composting is an effective and efficient way to dramatically reduce your waste stream at home.Organic material sent to the landfill creates methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that contributes to the negative impacts of our changing climate. By making compost, you are creating a valuable soil amendment that you can use to benefit your landscape, boost plant growth and reduce carbon emissions.Home composting can be done in an enclosed bin or tumbler, in an easily made bunker, or using a no-fuss pile. The key is to blend your feedstocks to achieve a balance of carbon and nitrogen, keep things damp but not saturated, and ensure adequate oxygen deep in the pile. The microbes will do the rest.REDUCE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINTMany types of food waste and yard waste can be composted at home:• GRASS CLIPPINGS • VEGETABLE GARDEN WASTE• TREE / SHRUB TRIMMINGS • FRUIT TREE WASTE• AUTUMN LEAVES • COFFEE GROUNDS• SHREDDED PAPPER • FRUIT / VEGETABLE KITCHEN SCRAPSHOME COMPOSTERS SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO COMPOST MEAT, DAIRY OR LARGE AMOUNTS OF BAKED GOODS.If you are interested in buying a compost bin for your home, call 909.820.2602.Get YourCompost BinThe City of Rialto sells The Earth Machine compost bins at a cost that include free instructions and printed materials to anyone interested in learning how to make this nutrientrich soil amendment. These bins have an open bottom and are placed directly on the ground. A properly managed compost pile DOES NOT SMELL BAD!! The materials should smell like fresh earth.EASY TO CARE FORIt only takes about 15 minutes a week. RIALTO PROGRESS SUMMER 2026 RIALTOCA.GOV 21

SummertimeTRAFFIC SAFETYDuring the summer children are out of school and will be more active in their neighborhoods, so we need to be extra cautious of our young bike riders.Summer Safety TipsFOR DRIVERS:• Be alert, especially in residential areas.• Expect the unexpected.• Obey all laws.• Be predictable.• Double-check behind you and around you when backing out of a driveway or parking space.• Don't be distracted.Important Things You Can Do ToKEEP YOUR CHILD SAFE:• Have your child wear a helmet every time he or she rides a bike–no exceptions. Wearing a helmet that fits well every time you're on a bike helps protect their face, head, and brain if they fall down. Just like that bike they ride, it should be the right size and not one that \"will grow into.\"• Teach your child the rules of the road to keep him or her safe while riding.• Make sure your child's bike is kept in good working order.• Teach your child safe control of the bicycle. Both hands should be kept on the bike's handlebars. Books and other items should be carried in a backpack or a basket. And only one person should ride a bike at a time–no exceptions.• Make sure your child never wears headphones while bicycling. Your child needs to be able to hear oncoming traffic.RIALTO PROGRESS SUMMER 2026 RIALTOCA.GOV 31
