Management 101, High Risk Drinking & Drug Use, Title IX and Sexual Misconduct and
Hazing Prevention. The Academy culminated with the presentation of Certificates of

seriousness, real applicable statistics and advice for drinking with PCT brothers and sisters was a
big highlight for me.”
Monica Kassim, Dallas Alumni
“I really enjoyed getting to meet chapter representatives from all over the nation. I always knew that
Phi Chi Theta was a national fraternity, but getting to meet people from all over like UT Austin and
Ohio really showed me that our brotherhood is on a much larger scale than just our chapter.”
Jaselyn Pe, Zeta Omicron
“I enjoyed the Risk Management and Insurance Day where we talked about Health and Safety
Initiatives for our chapters...From learning health and safety initiatives to gaining an understanding
of PCT nationals, I gained a lot through the National Meeting.”

Business Meeting & Foundation Presentation
Friday, August 10th
The business meeting began with a visit from Lindsay Gulley with Visit Wichita, who welcomed the
group to Wichita, KS. Following the official beginning of the meeting and the welcome to Wichita,
the meeting proceeded with the Founders’ Day Covered Coat of Arms Ceremony and excerpt of the
Candle lighting ceremony which were presented by Josh Gabbard and the Rituals & Ceremonies
Committee.
Katie Griffin recognized the dedicated members who passed in the last biennium. They were Dorothy
Metelsky, Geneva Rose McWhorter, Brian M. Carlsen and Jean Hogan.
Gary Hodge presented the State of the Fraternity and highlights from the 2014-2016 biennium were
shared. He then shared his goals for 2018-2020 and the continued success of our Fraternity.
“I was able to meet so many great people at this meeting and I do hope to keep in touch
with all of them. We started a group chat together and I feel like we have an outlet for more
opinions and perspectives if we are ever curious about other chapters.”

PCT Foundation
The end of the year is approaching fast, which means a lot of you are starting to think about your tax refunds
that will be coming in a few months. You might also have charities that you like to donate to during the holi-
days to spread the joy of the season. We’d like to remind you that individuals can make tax-deductible contri-
butions to the Phi Chi Theta Educational Foundation any time of year. Chapters do not receive tax-deductions,
but will receive 40 award points from Nationals, as well as recognition at the National Meeting in August, 2018.
Here is how you can make an impact:
• Mail a check to the Foundation at PO Box 113394, Carrollton, TX 75011-3394
• Go online to this link at Justgiving.com to make a donation
We hope you will remember the Foundation and help support the worthy causes of their mission: to provide
educational programming to Phi Chi Theta members, and to provide scholarships to deserving recipients. You
may restrict your donation to a certain fund or cause, or you can leave that decision up to the Foundation to
use the funds as needed. Each and every donation, no matter how small, will have a very large effect. It is
because of your generosity that we are able to do so much for members of the Fraternity. We hope you can
help us continue to offer these benefits in the future. If you need chapter programming ideas, or have ques-
tions about the foundation, please reach out to the President of the Foundation, Missy Bolin, at foundation-

2018 NATIONAL MEETING
The Phi Chi Theta Educational Foundation introduced a new scholarship, the Lester F. Richardson
Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is funded by an endowment that was created in 2017, by
Dr. Danity Little, Trustee of the Phi Chi Theta Educational Foundation in honor of her late father,
Lester F. Richardson. A Lester F. Richardson Memorial Scholarship will be offered every other
year, starting in 2018. Foundation President, Missy Bolin presented on the State of the Foundation
and reviewed programs funded by the Foundation and the other scholarships offered through
the Foundation. The Foundation honored donors with a yellow brick road display with each brick
containing the name of a donor.
“I really enjoyed meeting with so many different people from around the country, including both active
collegiate members and alumni members. This really helped us grasp a general feel of what the
national chapter looks like, as opposed to just our local chapter culture.” Trevor Scheiderer, Zeta Xi
“The highlight for me was the camaraderie experienced through PCT. I also felt that seeing the PCT
leadership in action was very important, just knowing that we have support at a national level is a very
uplifting feeling.” Steven Maciel, Delta Chi

Meet Your VP of Alumni Affairs
RUSSELL HOSKIN
Russell Hoskin has been with Phi Chi Theta since 2009,
when he joined the Zeta Gamma chapter at the University
of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. While with the chapter, he
served as Professional Chair and Webmaster, delivering
a rebuilt website and increasing their social networking
presence on Twitter. He graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor
of Science in Information Technology/Information Systems
from the College of Business. He then spent 2 years as
Central Regional Director for Phi Chi Theta. He spent two
summers as an IT intern with Grainger, and started full
time there after graduation. After 5 years as an IT Security
Engineer at Grainger, Russ moved up to Milwaukee to
become a Product Manager for Northwestern Mutual’s
Identity and Access team. After 6 months in the role, he
was promoted to Assistant Director, Identity and Access
Management and is still in this position.
Mr. Hoskin’s Vision for the New Position:
Phi Chi Theta has done an excellent job recruiting and graduating students at our campus chapters.
The talent that has come through our organization is extremely impressive, we have graduates
impacting companies and communities across the nation and world. As most know, the bond you
create at your local chapter lasts longer than the years you are on campus, and that’s where the
Alumni initiative comes in. We want to take that passionate, experienced alumni group and ensure
they have a position to contribute, connect and influence.
Over the next few years, we will be focusing on the following objectives:
• Identify active alumni and have them register with the national office
• Increase alumni involvement at National and Regional Meetings as well as involvement in
programs such as the National Mentoring Program
• Align alumni support and organization into a new model
Over the next few months we are planning on hosting our first National sponsored Alumni event in
Chicago and releasing initial plans on the new details surrounding alumni organization.
Don’t Forget to Order Graduation Supplies!
Stoles and Cords may be
ordered through the Phi Chi Theta
National Office. Visit our

Phi Chi Theta Welcomes
National Honorary Member
JOE MUNOZ
Joe and his wife Sheri, are co-owners of
Enginetech, Inc. located in Carrollton, TX.
During its three decades of business,
Dallas-based Enginetech has grown to a
premier domestic and international parts
supplier, delivering the highest quality
engine rebuilding parts to locations almost
anywhere in the world.
Enginetech employs roughly 40 people
including two Phi Chi Theta Alpha Nu
alumni.
Joe began working at Enginetech in 1989, worked his way up from parts salesman to general
manager and now owner. This was done through hard work and through the mentor relationship
he had with the former owner/partner Fred Currey. Since taking over, Joe has added additional
locations across the country and more than doubled the revenue of the company.
Joe feels very strongly about paying it forward and giving back to his community of Carrollton,
which is the home of our National Headquarters. He has hosted a tour group where he gave a
personal tour to the Alpha Nu group to show what goes on behind the scenes of the operations
and provided insight on what it takes to be successful in business. Also allowing the chapter to
observe an executive management meeting.
Joe and his wife Sheri, hired Nicholas Mabry, Alpha Nu Chapter President, as an intern and then
offered him a full-time position at graduation. They also hired a second PCT alum, Summer
Boyle. They both think very highly of Phi Chi
Theta and commented that we should be proud
of the caliber of our members.
Joe and Sheri are very supportive of the Dallas
Alumni Chapter’s annual philanthropy, the
Lupus Foundation of America, Lone Star chap-
ter’s annual Lupus Walk. Sheri has attended
every walk to support the chapter and provides
refreshments for the group. Joe and Sheri
attended the Lupus Gala to help raise funds for
lupus research.
In his spare time, Joe’s hobbies include playing
bass in both a Beatles and REM tribute band,
muscle cars and railroads. Joe and Sheri
have two adult children, Joe and Kendall.

PHI CHI THETA FALL 2018
2018 NATIONAL MEETING
Phi Chi Theta Educational Foundation
The Phi Chi Theta Educational Foundation was well-represented at the National Meeting. We
learned a lot from the presentations and enjoyed sharing our story with the delegates who were
present. We even made some money from our raffle ticket sales and t-shirt sales, which will fund our
operating expenses for the next year. However, for us, the highlight of the meeting was the Awards
Ceremony. When it was almost concluded, the Trustees of the Foundation were called up for an
unexpected honor. Gary Hodge, President of the Phi Chi Theta Fraternity, presented the Foundation
with our largest single donation to date: a large check for $50,000. The Trustees were so grateful
to receive this donation from the Fraternity and to take over the scholarship program completely.
Along with the $50,000 check was a promise for an additional $1,000 to fund the scholarship for the
first year. We cannot thank Gary Hodge and the 2016-2018 Fraternity Executive Board enough for
making it happen. The amount will be split into two separate funds for scholarships in the names of
Helen D Snow and Anna E Hall. Because of the generosity of the Fraternity, these scholarships are
fully endowed, which means they will be self-sustaining. We will be awarding future scholarships out
of the interest earned off the $25,000 principal in each account.
The Foundation is a separate entity from the Phi Chi Theta Fraternity. We are a 501(c)3 non-
profit organization established to provide scholarships and educational programs to Phi Chi Theta
Fraternity Members and Chapters. The Fraternity’s mission is to provide daily operational support
and governing over the Phi Chi Theta Fraternity. The two organizations clearly have different and
separate missions. However, the missions are aligned in that both organizations serve Phi Chi Theta
Fraternity members. Because of the generosity of the Fraternity, the Foundation will be able to do
that better than we ever have before.
However, we would be remiss if we also didn’t thank all of you, our members, friends, family and
businesses. The Foundation would not exist if we did not have Phi Chi Theta members to serve. We
would not be able to operate without volunteer Trustees who serve on our board. The Foundation
could not complete its mission if not for the donations we receive from all of you. And we wouldn’t
have winners to award the scholarships to, if no one applied for them. We thank the Fraternity
for helping make us more successful than ever. The future is looking bright for the Phi Chi Theta
Educational Foundation, and we look forward to continuing the progress we have made. Thanks to
the Fraternity, especially Gary Hodge and the 2016-2018 Executive Board, and all of you, we are off
to a great start!

In my first semester of sophomore year, I was fortunate enough to be paired up with Michele
De La Rosa as a Phi Chi Theta alumni mentor. I apply to the mentorship program every year
and although I had great mentors before and after Michele, our mentor-mentee relationship
has definitely stood out as a very special one. In our initial interaction, Michele was very
detailed and I learned a lot about her background in the financial industry as well as her per-
sonal interests and passions. We clicked right away as we were both previous girl scouts and
passionate about being involved in women empowerment organizations or activities. During
the internship topic week of the mentorship program, I mentioned to her I was looking for a
summer internship as a software developer and she recommended JP Morgan’s Tech Analyst
Program and got the ball rolling for me. Although they were looking for juniors at the time, I
still managed to get an interview as a sophomore thanks to Michele. I didn’t get the internship
that year, but I learned a lot from the process and got work experience elsewhere and so when
I reapplied to the position junior year, I would be more prepared. Going into junior year, I knew
I wanted to try for JP Morgan’s Tech Analyst Program again and applied pretty early in the
recruiting season and secured the internship this time. Michele and I kept in contact through-
out this process and she gave me great advice on what I should improve or work on and
encouragement in my career advancement. When I started my job last summer in New York,
we were able to contact each other through Skype for business and talked a bit. As a senior
looking back at my progression through my college career, I can attribute a lot of the opportu-
nities I had to Michele and I am very thankful for her willingness to help.

PHI CHI THETA FALL 2018
Phi Chi Theta Welcomes New Chapter
On Sunday September 30th, 2018, the Zeta Rho Chapter was officially installed at the University of South Florida in
Tampa, Florida. To our chapter, being a founding member goes beyond the honor of having each of our names simply
printed on a charter. It means being a part of history at the University of South Florida and inciting a change that the
Muma College of Business so desperately needs. With the energy and excitement surrounding business fraternities
lacking, Phi Chi Theta will be known as the organization that stepped in and provoked change. In turn, being able to
call ourselves the founding members of this organization will enable us to leave our legacy both within the college of
business and the university as a whole.
As previously stated, the desire to start a chapter at the University of South Florida stems from the lack of energy
surrounding business fraternities within the Muma College of Business. On campus, these organizations have been
virtually non-existent and many business students do not know of the great benefits, opportunities, and experiences
that being a part of a business fraternity can offer. Our goal is to change that stigma. By focusing on our three pillars:
Professionalism, Philanthropy, and Social, we want to create an organization that appeals to all aspects of the college
experience. In doing so, we believe that we can serve as the catalysts for change at our university.
More importantly, becoming a part of Phi Chi Theta means becoming a
part of a prestigious organization. As a result of this, we will make it an
honor for students to be a part of our chapter and be able to represent
our letters on campus. Many of the other business fraternities at USF
struggle to recruit talented students, so they end up offering membership
to quite literally every single student that is interested. Our chapter will
take a significantly different approach. We will carefully pick out the
students who we feel best demonstrate the characteristics necessary to
be able to call themselves a Phi Chi Theta. From this, we will ensure that
our organization is full of the most talented and success hungry students
within the Muma College of Business.
As a whole, our desire to start the Zeta Rho chapter will hopefully lead
to a revamped professional business fraternity system at our university.
We aim to increase the energy surrounding business fraternities within
the Muma College of Business and in turn aim to create a better learning
environment for both current and prospective business students.

ALPHA MU
On October 12th, 2018, Phi Chi Theta’s Alpha Mu chapter at the University of Maryland hosted A
Night Zaching Against Cancer. The night consisted of several key speakers, a raffle, and live jazz
music.
The Zaching Against Cancer Foundation provides support for cancer patients, family members, and
caregivers that are affected by the disease. Zaching runs the Little Things Program which funds
small efforts, such as an Uber ride to the hospital, to help families and patients of cancer. The foun-
dation was founded by Zach Lederer before he passed away from brain cancer in 2014.
Each Fall semester the Alpha Mu chapter holds a fundraiser for the Zaching Against Cancer
Foundation in honor of Zach Lederer. Many Phi Chi Theta alumni attended the University of
Maryland in the same years as Zach and are personally connected to the cause. Our fundraising
efforts for the night raised over $1,500, all of which was donated to the Foundation.
Phi Chi Theta, Alpha Mu is proud to continuously support the Zaching Against Cancer Foundation
and dedicate a day of our semester to remember Zach.

ZETA EPSILON
This semester, the Zeta Epsilon chapter of Grand Valley State University has worked extremely
hard in the recruitment process, utilizing social media and marketing as some of our biggest assets.
In today’s modern society, it is important to understand that social media is more than likes and
comments, it’s networking and branding. It can have a huge effect on any organization or business
and has the ability to reach hundreds of thousands of people daily. With many seniors graduating in
April, we knew we had to step up our recruitment process and what better way to do that than social
media? We also incorporated a “Rush Week” this semester and held events, social and professional,
every week night for a week and a half. To promote this and to make it successful, we handed out
flyers and posted on all social media platforms daily. The key to increasing activity within these
posts and enhancing them to influence more and more people is to stay consistent and have active
members share each post. By doing this, our social media platforms are becoming more widespread
and interactive. Additionally, our website has been completely remodeled and now has a more
modern, unique feel to it! By utilizing and directing our focus on social media and marketing this
semester, our recruitment process was less overwhelming and very successful!

ZETA ETA
This semester our rush director, Megan Rodgers,
spent months putting together the most extensive
rush process this chapter has ever seen. With what
began with our video https://youtu.be/R8Ywhnlw0_k
turned into 16 more events than usual!
What were those 16 events? Twelve of them were
unofficial marketing events sponsored by either the
business school, our chapter, or other business fra-
ternities. We were able to pass out over 700 business
cards and 25 flyers.
The other four were our usual rush events which
include a case competition, info night, philanthropy
night, and dinner with the actives. What made this
year so special is our sponsor! Macy’s decided to
sponsor us this semester and we were able to put
their logo on all of our rush materials.
ZETA LAMBDA
We had 20 teams of 4 people participate plus an audience! I would say around 100-120 people
overall! We raised around $450 for testicular cancer research. We were hoping to raise more,
however our venue charged us more than we were anticipating for the meatball catering. Due to
this, next year we are thinking about reserving a classroom for free and having a different restaurant
cater the contest so we have a higher donation compared to what we collect from people. This was
overall a great event that both members of Phi Chi Theta and other students not in our organization
attended!

the Chapter”, a highly structured event where PNMs
filter through the room, talking to 6-7 members for a set
amount of time. This event is mandatory to move on
to our first-round interviews. For those who score high
enough after the first interviews, we had an “Informal
Meet the Chapter”, a more casual event where the
remaining PNMs come, eat pizza, and talk to members
in a more relaxed environment. Finally, the recruit-
ment process ends with second round interviews. The
Saturday morning after these interviews, our chapter
met bright and early for decisions. After a few hours of
lively debate, we came away with our bid list! Overall,
this was an extremely successful recruitment season;
our newest pledge class is one of our most diverse yet,
and we are all excited to see them work through the
pledge process.
Recruitment chair, junior Mackenzie Kelly said,
“Recruitment, in my opinion, is one of the most exciting
times for our fraternity. As a chapter, all of our brothers
and sisters really come together to recruit our next set
of members. Every year we see increasing talent in the
people who come to Ohio State and decide to rush our
fraternity. This semester was no exception. I am already
so excited to have this new pledge class and I cannot
wait to see all that they achieve in Phi Chi Theta.”

Chapter Updates
This past summer, our very own Valterri Salomaki was
recognized at the National Chapter Conference in Wichita,
Kansas where our Zeta Omicron chapter President Jaslyn Pe
represented us. The Phi Chi Theta National Key Award was
awarded to Valterri on the basis of the nominee’s contributions to
our local Phi Chi Theta chapter, Zeta Omicron, and his collegiate,
civic, and career achievements while attaining his baccalaureate
degree at the University of California, Riverside. Only one person
is recognized at the national level by Phi Chi Theta, and to be
considered eligible for it, one must have received the National
Key Award at the chapter level, which Valterri also got awarded
and recognized for at Zeta Omicron’s End of the Year Banquet
Ceremony in the Spring of 2017. Nominations can be made by
any chapter. The selection is made by a committee appointed
by the National President and the winner was presented with
an award from the National Office. On behalf of the entire Zeta
Omicron chapter, we are very proud of Valterri Salomaki and are
grateful for the national recognition!

Drake University lead to the acceptance of many intelligent
new members. Fall 2018 our recruitment was one of the most
fulfilling yet, with the acceptance of 13 new pledges. To show
what Zeta Xi chapter is all about, many different activities where
provided during recruitment week. Potential new members got
a sweet taste of Phi Chi Theta at the ice cream social as well
as an exhilarating scavenger hunt that kept them on their toes.
Towards the end of recruitment week, potential new members
got to relax by Grey’s Lake and discuss, with current members,
all the opportunities that Zeta Xi chapter can provide. At the end
of the week, the potential new members showed professionalism
and sophistication in their interviews. This lend to us welcoming
13 well-rounded and bright new members. We are enthusiastic
too see what the new pledge class can contribute to the Zeta Xi
chapter.
