GLOSSARY

1: nonrenewable resource- a resource that cannot be replaced or is
replaced very slowly.
2: hydrocarbons- a compound of hydrogen and carbon
3: hydrogen- a colorless, odorless, highly flammable gas.
4: carbon- t he chemical element of atomic number 6.
5: flammable- e asily set on fire.

A fossil fuel can be one of three things such as natural gas, oil, or coal. A fossil fuel is formed
from dead plants and animals 200-400 million years ago. Fossil fuels are made up of
hydrocarbons giving them the ability burn and give off heat and light. A hydrocarbon is hydrogen
atoms fused with carbon atoms. Fossil fuels are also nonrenewable resources. A nonrenewable
resource is a resource that can not be replaced or is replaced very slowly. Once we use all of
the fossil fuels we have there will not be anymore or it will take another 200-400 million years to
get another batch from dead plants and animals. This is why fossil fuels are in the
nonrenewable resource category.

You are a fish swimming in the ocean 200 - 400 million years ago, even before the dinosaurs
lived. You come to a stop and it suddenly gets very dark, so you look up and see giant rocks
falling into the water. A rock hits you and slams you onto the ocean floor hard, it squishes you
against the floor but you are still alive. Over a month passes and you are still stuck under a rock,
then the sky gets dark red and lava starts spewing everywhere. More rocks fall on you followed
by lava and you get squished even more. Within the next year nothing has changed, night falls
and seeming like out of nowhere dirt falls on top of the lava and rocks and squishes you more,
then everything goes black.

If you compare coal to oil then you will get some similarities. For example, they are both the
color black, they are both fossil fuels, they are both found underground, and they are both used
for heat. Their differences are that coal is a solid, oil is a liquid, oil can be found under the ocean
floor, coal is mostly found in mines, oil is highly explosive, coal is highly flammable. If you
compare coal and natural gas you will most likely only find 1 similarity, they are both fossil fuels.
Their differences are coal is a solid, natural gas is a gas, coal is found in mines, and natural gas
is all around us. If you compare oil and natural gas it is pretty much the exact same thing as
coal compared to natural gas.

When rocks start falling and hit a fish, the fish gets stuck. When the lava spews everywhere
while the fish is stuck, the fish starts getting squished. The dirt starts falling and the fish is still
there and the dirt slams into the hardened lava, because of that the fish gets squished so hard
that its insides come out. 200-400 million years later that dead fish turns into a fossil fuel. We
use those fossil fuels for many things. Some examples of uses for fossil fuels are heat, light,
and electricity. Without fossil fuels we would be nothing.

The problem is that when you wake up from the black out you are tangled in seaweed. You try
to pull but you can't get loose from it. You start biting it but that doesn't work either. As you start
getting frustrated, just your luck a shark swims right in front of you. He tries to bite you and ends
up biting the seaweed. You swim away with him on your tail. He gets closer and chomp, now
you don't have a tail. You stop and look behind you and see that your tail is gone, and with
another chomp you have been eaten.

I am an eleven year old that likes playing sports and video games. I enjoy playing football with
my friends. I also like playing basketball with my older cousin. My favorite video game to play is
ride. My favorite football team is the seattle seahawks which is the team of my favorite player
and quarterback, russell wilson. I have two dogs, a pitbull terrier and a yorkshire terrier. I hope
you enjoyed reading my book and a little information about me, thank you for reading.
