various categories.
At the Inter-house Gala, before anyone could see Clarendon they
could hear the rumbling roars of passion that echoed through the
pool enclosure and resounded across the stands, as we demon-
strated one of our most well-known attributes: our spirit. This year
we kept the cheers loud but the laughter even louder. Our
cheerleaders’ outfits from Two Broke Girls were stunning.
Throughout the year we celebrated our victories but we
accepted and worked on our defeats from the pool to track, the
soccer field, the tense debating halls and the interesting public
speaking sessions. This mentality of resilience and great sports-
manship is what always kept us in first place. At the Inter-house
Athletics, we reclaimed our second place position and managed
to scoop second place for spirit. Our all-star soccer teams both
placed second at the Inter-house Soccer. At the Inter-house Debate
Clarendon won the debate, proving that they are truly
multitalented.

2019 began with a beautiful sunrise. The Grade 8s
were all proud of being Van Zylians from day one
of Grade 8 Camp. It might have been their bright
orange bandanas or their enthusiastic form teacher,
Ms Shelley, but they have all been so proud of
belonging to the orange house from the moment they
were welcomed into our family. From our amazing heads
of House, Mrs De Bruin and Ms Dowlath, and all the staff mem-
bers a part of Van Zyl to every single girl who has orange blood
running through their veins, we are all proud Van Zylians!
The rom-com, Just as I was getting married... was one filled with
laughter and tears. Our talented cast and directors made the House
Play the wonderful one that was. The support from our Van Zyl
family on the night and feedback thereafter, was truly heartwarm-
ing.
Our Kim Possible theme at the Inter-house Gala and the gala was
truly a memorable one, with Van Zyl winning the trophy. All the
swimmers and girls who were
cheering on the day made this possible.
As the sun sets, the journey is ending. Mmaphale Ramatsetse and
Jenna Anderson both truly enjoyed leading Van Zyl in 2019. It was
an absolute honour to lead such talented and wonderful young
ladies. All the memories of all the Inter-house events of 2019 will
forever stay in our memory books, especially winning Inter-house
Athletics for the seventh time in a row.
