Puthandu, also known as Tamil New Year, is the first day of
year on the Tamil calendar, traditionally celebrated as a festival
by Tamils as the first day of the Tamil month Chittirai.
It is also believed that Lord Brahma began the establishment
of the universe. Hence, this day has its own importance.
People celebrate this day with great joy and happiness and
hope for the prosperity and good fortune in the new year.
Some people even start new business venture as they
consider this day to be extremely promising.

Some of the rituals include eating vegetarian dishes; bringing
fruits, sweets, and flowers into the house; and the oldest
member of the family concluding the festival by reading the

the school. The slogan 'Prosit spes Labori' translated to 'we work in hope' definitely holds merit in the day-to-day
affairs at PHSG. There is a certain drive behind every PHSG student, a hunger to excel that mo vates students to
work hard and excel in all their endeavours. Last but not least, the mul culturalism of PHSG is phenomenal! I've
met students at this school that have lived in the farthest corners of the world from where we are right now, and I
have learned from experiences they've lived through. My peers here are some of the most open-minded, accep ng
and diverse people. The students, staff, administra on, all of them, treat everyone with due respect regardless of
age, gender, race etc. With regards to equal treatment, students wearing a uniform really enforces how hard
they're trying to level the playing field of all students, but without robbing us of our individualism.
Hence, the reason we have dress-down days. Since our school is non-denomina onal, a vast range of religions and
beliefs are equally respected. I think that's what makes our school community so unique - the shared importance of
acknowledgment and respect of all people from all walks of life. Being at a school like this teaches the importance
of acceptance, tolerance and progress. Stereotypes hold no merit here.
I am proud of my school and I never hesitate to express it."
