LEARNERS’ REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL 2004



CLUBS AND SOCIETIES growth not only for me but all the members. Many thanks
must go to Mrs Dori Waterston for her help and guidance

Museum continue to prosper.

Peer Counselling

This year has been a really interesting and enriching
experience. We started off the year as individuals in our
own worlds and have grown closer together as time has
passed. As a counselling body we have built friendships
that will always remain and have shared personal
experiences within the group.
The first term was full of entertainment which consisted of
a fun-filled sleepover at the pavilion. This was the first time
that this has been organised and it was a true success. From
this camp values and morals were shared and learnt. We
also spent a morning practising counselling techniques. I
can personally say the experience has left a special mark on
my heart.
Not many of the counsellors have had the opportunity to
counsel but they have all been very committed and eager to
wait until the need arises. We are qualified to deal with
relationship problems, adjustment problems, depression and
problems with substance abuse. We also have a list of
resources to whom girls can turn in trouble. The girls'
enthusiasm and happy dispositions have been a positive
asset to the group. The new counsellors have just
completed their training and have signed their pledges.
We are a dynamic group of girls and I wish them all the
best of luck for the future.

Peer Tutoring

The Peer Tutoring Programme ran very smoothly this year.
The systems set up by last year's heads were successfully
utilised during 2004. We continued to run class tutoring for
Maths and Science, which was headed up by Lauren Currie.
This fairly new system helped to deal with the many tutees
in these subjects by tutoring groups of people in the same
grade. We initiated new systems to monitor both the tutor
and tutee's progress as well as to make sure that
commitments were always met. We also worked out new
ways to get teachers' input about the tutees' academic
improvement. The secretary of the TLC, Atli Phatudi has
been selected as next year's Head Girl. This is the second
year running that this has happened. It is evident that
tutoring is the breeding ground for strong, caring leaders.

Photography

The Photography Club has grown enormously and this year
has been the best so far! We started off with a new, fresh,
enthusiastic group of juniors. Throughout the year these
young ladies grew so much - watch out for these young
talents! Our talented senior group carried on shining.
Through many trials and errors we all learnt new techniques
which just brought about an excitement for the future. Our
very own darkroom went for a makeover and many more
