History
Vel Tech University is one of the few Institutes offering Biomedical Engineering in Tamilnadu, with an
immense aim of providing a different learning environment to inculcate out of the box thinking. The
department of Biomedical Engineering was established in the year 2017 under the school of Electrical and
Communication of Engineering with an aim to connect engineering and biology. True to its mission of
merging engineering with science and medicine the department is propelling itself to become the major
educator in Biomedical Instrumentation and allied engineering by employing diverse workforce. Over the
period of three years, the department has raised to the standards of world class laboratories by setting up
Brain Computer Interface(BCI) from open BCI. The department introduced a major pedagogical shift by
incorporating integrated lab courses in the curriculum with the motive of giving learn by doing experience
to the students.
Dr.N.M.Masoodhu Banu professor and head of the department has 2 decades of teaching experience and
close to 10 years of industryexperience in the field of digital signal processing and embedded programing.
The department has faculty strength of 10 and total of 5 doctorates in diverse research field which is
essential for the interdisciplinary nature of bio medical engineering.
1. Faculty and Students achievement
a. Our faculty and students are recognized for their achievement throughout the year both
inter and intra college competitions. At the event “India Covid Move- Online Hackathon
Challenge Edition 2” conducted by IEEE section, Assistant professor Karthik Raj V has been
awarded with second prize.
India Covid Move- online Hackathon Challenge Edition 2
b. At the India Innovation Challenge Design Contest 2019 (IICDC) conducted by Texas Instruments
three teams from undergraduate Biomedical Engineering mentored by three different faculty
members have been screened for quarterfinal phase and got their Texas Instruments MSP430
boards and the required additional component from Texas free of cost.
