Obituary
Gary Lewis Hickson Jr., was born on November 21, 1978 in
Atlanta, Georgia to Rosa Mae Johnson and the late Gary Hickson
Sr.
“Mooky” as he was most affectionately known, attended
Jonesboro High School where he developed a skill in cosmetology
and thereafter became a talented licensed barber. Mooky later
attended ACT where he completed the program for Computer
Systems Technician. With this degree, he became the “fix it guy”,
repairing everything such as phones, computers, and any type of
technology based systems. He has always been an entrepreneur by
nature, balancing several businesses at a time all while being
diligent in networking.
At an early age in life, Mooky accepted Christ. As a kid he
loved playing baseball and had a passion for collecting baseball
cards. He also loved cars and took interest in fixing on all of the
numerous cars that he had. Although he had many hobbies,
fishing was by far his favorite. After a day of fishing, Mooky
would give you all the details; everything from the fishing location
he had chosen and the funny way he found it, down to the size
and number of the fish that he caught. Another pastime that
Mooky enjoyed and was particularly good at, was cooking. He
created dishes to which he placed his own personal touch and
unique name. If you ever had an opportunity to taste his self-
proclaimed The Mooky rice, you were fortunate indeed.
Due to his long battle with sickle cell which he endured all
of his life, he became a strong advocate to help others dealing with
this illness to stay uplifted. He was the first to share information
he had learned about nutrition and dietary supplements to help
those who wanted to explore natural alternatives to aid in a
healthier lifestyle. Mooky’s kind and relaxed personality made it
easy to listen to the detailed knowledge he was willing to impart.
On Saturday, May 9, 2020, Mooky departed his earthly
journey. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother Rosa
Mae Johnson (Velez); his only child Jasmine Hickson, who was the
love of his life; one sister Towanda Shante Glenn; one brother
Gregory Deonte White; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me, for I’m Free.
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Task left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at the close of the day.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee.
I am with the Lord, I am free!

and because of this I am eternally grateful to GOD for sharing you with me.
Until I see you again, know that I love you beyond words and will carry you in
