A MOOC is an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via
the Web. MOOC initiatives offer advantages in terms of broad and inclusive access
and allow flexible learning in terms of time and place. The development of

Micro-credentials are short, focused credentials designed to provide in-demand
skills, know-how and experience. Micro-Credentials are designed with a specific
learning path and involve studying a programme at your own pace in a mainly
online environment. In UPM, the micro-credentials initiative is introduced in year 2021
and branded as MC UPM, where students who complete the learning outcomes and
competency expectations are awarded digital badges and micro or macro courses
certificates. MC UPM courses are either from accredited academic programs or
stand-alone content.
Both PutraMOOC and MC UPM support lifelong learning and provide excellent
opportunity for academicians to contribute towards open education globally. These
initiatives are also aimed to cultivate innovation and creativity of academic staff
and students in teaching and learning (TnL).
It is a vision that UPM sees through PutraMOOC that the university will go a step

Lifelong Learning
Courses
Lifelong learning is rooted in the integration of
learning and living, covering lifelong (cradle to
grave) and life-wide learning for people of all
ages, delivered and undertaken through a variety
of modalities and meeting a wide range of
learning needs and demands (UNESCO Institute
for Lifelong Learning Technical Note on Lifelong
Learning,
The Delors Report of 1996, entitled Learning: The
treasure within (Delors et al. 1996) saw learning
throughout life as the ‘heartbeat’ of a society. It
also saw lifelong learning as a principle which
rests on four pillars – learning to be, learning to
know, learning to do and learning to live together
– and envisaged a learning society in which
everyone can learn according to her or his
individual needs and interests, anywhere and
anytime in an unrestricted, flexible and
constructive way.
Lifelong learning can also be described as the
concept of pursuing additional education and
the development of further skills beyond an
individual's formal or compulsory education.
Lifelong learning is generally voluntary and
self-motivated based on a pursuit to learn more,
gain new skills or support professional
development.
PutraMOOC offers various courses for the
purpose of life-long learning such as provided in
this section..
