4 This course is divided into two: 101 and 102. At the end of the DAC for RCEF Training of Trainers (ToT), participants are expected to produce a recorded micro-teaching session showcasing how they will cascade the course to RCEF beneficiaries. Digital Agriculture Course 101 DAC for RCEF 101 is an introductory course that encourages farmers to utilize smartphones, the internet, basic ICT tools on rice, and social media marketing in boosting their farming productivity Introduction to DAC4RCEF 101 What: Digital Farmers Program, an ICT-based ladderized capacity development program which focuses from basic digital tools such as social media to more complex services such as ecommerce and online payment systems. Why: To help farmers access information to make better farming decisions, improve efficiencies & skills using digital technologies, expand and tap a wide network of market opportunities, increase resiliency, and enhance their livelihood. Where: DAC will be rolled out nationwide with the help of the DA-ATI, TESDA, and Farm Schools. When: Interested participants can check the schedules of the DAC for RCEF trainings with the ATI Regional Training Centers or Farm Schools in their area. Who: DAC for RCEF is for program farmer-beneficiaries, Farm Schools, and youth who are interested to go into agriculture. Learning Outcomes: 1. Describe how they can use digital tools and technologies to help them in their daily lives & farming practices; 2. Identify the parts, function, and uses of the smartphone; 3. Access the internet and perform tasks and functions using the internet; 4. Identify social media apps and agri ICT tools that can help them in their farming practices; 5. Explain internet safety and learn how to protect themselves online from possible scams; 6. Must be able to do topic searches in Google, FB and Youtube; and 7. Must be able to download applications via App Store or Play Store. Lesson 1: Smartphone 101 A. The Power of Smartphone


5 In this section, explain the basic functions of the smartphone and demonstrate how to operate one. This will give the farmers an idea on the benefits of using smartphones over traditional phones. As defined on the textbook: Ang smartphone ay tumutukoy sa isang gadget o device na may kakayahang magsagawa ng iba pang mga bagay maliban sa karaniwang nagagawa ng isang telepono. Sa panahon ng pag-unlad ng teknolohiya, hindi lamang pagtawag ang maaaring gawin sa isang telepono. Ngayon, maaari na itong gamitin bilang kamera, libangan, at telebisyon. Kadalasan ito ay touchscreen device na magagamit sa pamamagitan ng pag pindot / swipe sa screen. B.1. Activity 1 For this activity, make sure that every participant will be able to try using the smartphone. B.1. Smartphone Challenge


6 Mechanics Challenge 1: Ask the participants to turn their smartphones on and off. Challenge 2: Ask them to dial and call 171. Challenge 3: Ask them to to text someone using their smartphone. This activity also intends to establish communication between each participants. Challenge 4: Ask the participants to use the camera to take a clear photo of an object. Example: take a photo the DAC for RCEF streamer or banner, making sure that the image is clear and the entire banner can be seen in the photo. You are also encouraged to give prizes to participants who can finish the tasks first. After the first activity, the facilitator can sign the passports of the farmers to show completion. Lesson 2. Accessing the Internet Teach the participants how to connect to the internet via their smartphones. Mechanics: 1. Instruct them to swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick Settings Panel. 2. Tell them to press the WiFi icon, and to choose a network to connect to. 3. If WiFi is not provided, they can press on the Mobile Data icon to activate their mobile data. Note: P5 will be deducted from their regular load for every 15 minutes of browsing if they are not registered to any data plans or prepaid promos such as Giga Surf 50 or GoSurf 99 among others. Lesson 2.1. Mobile Applications Start by discussing briefly what a mobile application is. Brief the participants on the apps they will mainly use during the course, which are Facebook, Google, and YouTube. Allot time to explain each app what it is for, how to use it, and how it can be applied to farming. Refer to the sl What is a Mobile Application? Ang mobile application, o tinatawag ring mobile app o app, ay isang software application na ginawa upang magamit sa isang mobile device kagaya ng smartphones at tablet. Malaki ang naitulong ng mga mobile apps ngayong panahon ng pandemya. Sa pamamagitan ng mobile apps, nalilibang ang mga tao habang nasa kani-kanilang mga


7 bahay, nakakausap natin ang ating mga mahal sa buhay, at nakakabili tayo ng ating mga pang-araw-araw na pangangailangan. Karamihan ng mga bagong smartphones ay meron nang pre-installed mobile applications. Kabilang na dito ang Facebook, Google, at Youtube. Kung wala, maaaring mag-download sa Play Store kung Android ang ginagamit na smartphone at Apple Store kung iOS naman ang ginagamit. A3.1. Activity 2 Teach the participants how to use Facebook to help them market their product to their potential buyers and/or investors. Mechanics: 1. Instruct the participants to open the Facebook app and log in to their account. 2. Ask them to join the DAC for RCEF Facebook Group. 3. Ask them to like Facebook page of the Agricultural Training Institute, FarmSmart PH and their Farm School. Note: During registration, you may already identify those participants who don't have a Facebook account. Ask their farm school partners to create for them before the training starts. A.3.2 Activity 3 Teach the participants how to use Google to search for farming information that will help them boost their productivity. Mechanics: 1. Instruct the participants to open the Google app and search for three words that are related to farming such as; A. English keywords Philippine agriculture, rice farming, mechanization, farm school, RCEF. A. Filipino keywords Pagpili ng binhi ng palay, pag-papatubig, paggamit ng pataba 2. Afterwards, instruct them to look for search results in the following tabs: Images, Videos, and News. Note: You can also instruct the farmers to search for local/contextualized keywords. A.3.3. Activity 4


8 Teach the participants on how to use YouTube to search videos regarding farming practices which they can use as reference in improving their products. Mechanics: 1. Search and subscribe to DA-ATI YouTube channel: Agricultural Training Institute. 2.From the available videos uploaded to DA-ATI YouTube channel, participants should choose one and share the link to the video to their DAC for RCEF FB group. Lesson 3. Internet Safety Basics Share with the participants tip on how to avoid scams, viruses, and other types of harassment online. Inform them of common scams that can compromise their safety online. Lesson 4. Basic Agri ICT Tools


9 Start by discussing briefly what a mobile application is. Then introduce apps and tools that can help with farming such as e-Learning for knowledge resource, AccuWeather for weather, the Farmers Contact Center for help lines, and GPS Fields Area Measure for land measure. Knowledge Resources ● e-Learning Program for Agriculture and Fisheries ● Pinoy Rice Knowledge Bank Agri Help Lines ● ● PhilRice Text Center Activity 3.1 e-Learning Program for Agriculture and Fisheries Guide the participants on how to use the e-Extension Program for Agriculture and Fisheries website where they can access free e-Learning materials on agriculture. Mechanics: 1. Instruct the participants to visit the e-Extension Program website using the link: http://e-extension.gov.ph/elearning/ 2. Have them choose a topic under courses (e.g. crops) 3. Tell the participants to summarize the lesson based on their understanding and share it with their youth participant partner. Note: Remember to make sure everyone can catch up and that the farmers are the ones navigating the phones themselves, with the assistance of their youth partners! Activity 3.2. PinoyRice Knowledge Bank Briefly introduce the Pinoy Rice Knowledge Bank to the participants. In the discussion, emphasize why it was developed by PhilRice, what are its main features, and how they can maximize its use to improve their knowledge on rice and rice-based technologies. Activity (No using of the Search button for the duration of the activity): 1. Give at least 3 major categories of materials that can be downloaded from the PinoyRice. 2.If a farmer from Northern Samar is interested to know the list of seed growers near him, which part of the PinoyRice should he/she go?


10 3.What is the main content of the Rice Production tab of PinoyRice? Activity 3.3. PhilRice Text Center Discuss the PhilRice Text Center and play the AVP for further discussion. Activity: 1. Have the participants recite the PTC number at least three times. 2.Ask the participants to take out their mobile phone and save the PTC number as a contact. 3.Tell the participants to do each of the following and then send it to the PTC. Each must show a reply from PTC to verify. a.compose a personal question about rice b. info-on-demand keyword as shortcut to question in a. 4.Have the participants register to the PTC following the prescribed text format and have them show the confirmation message from PTC upon successful registration. Activity 3.4. Farmers Contact Center Discuss the services offered by the Farmers Contact Center (FCC). Mechanics: 1. Tell them send a message or try calling the FCC hotline number. Lesson 4. Basic Social Media Marketing


11 Introduce to the participants the concept of social media marketing using the provided AVP featuring Richard Dadole, an online agripreneur and the owner of Umahan ni Dongkoy Farm. After the video, you can expound more on the power of social media marketing. Activity 4.1. Window Shopping After explaining what social media marketing is, discuss briefly Facebook Marketplace. The first activity will give the participants a window shopping experience online. Mechanics: 1. Give the participants 5-10 minutes to look for items on Facebook. This will give them first-hand experience on online buying. 2. Facilitate discussions they have observed in their window shopping experience, such as range of the prices, product reach, and descriptions. 3. Refer to the facilitator's deck for tips on phonetography Activity 4.2. Facebook Marketplace Teach the participants how to use Facebook app as a market platform for their product. Use the sample products you prepared for this activity. Mechanics: 1. Instruct the participants to post and sell an item at the local DAC for RCEF group (provided by the RTC) with the following format: ➔ Photo ➔ Title ➔ Location ➔ Price 1. 12 DFP 102 is the second course in the three-level program that aims to encourage farmers to utilize technologies in farming. This DAC for RCEF 102 is the second course of the RCEF digital literacy program that focuses on in-depth mobile agri applications for seed selection as well as pest, nutrient, and farm management. This level will also expound on the usage of online platforms for marketing and payment transactions. Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify advanced digital tools and technologies and describe how they can be used in their daily lives & farming practices; 2. Create a social media product content and marketing plan; 3. Describe how e-commerce can help them in their farming practices and marketing their products; and 4. Explain internet safety & identify tips on how to protect themselves from the possible scams/bogus buyers. 5. Identify steps on how to do online transaction through mobile money (PayMaya and GCash) Lesson 1. Agri Apps on Rice Start by discussing briefly what a mobile application is. Then introduce rice applications on seed selection and preparation, nutrient management, pest and diseases management, and farm management. Provide demonstrations for the participants to understand how to use the said apps. Activity.1.1 Rice App for seed selection and preparation: Binhing Palay App Discuss the Binhing Palay which is a mobile application that serves as catalog of released rice varieties in the Philippines. It provides rice variety information for farmers, seed growers, extension workers, researchers and students thru smartphone or tablet. Activity (Question and Answer): 1. NSIC Rc 528 is resistant to what pest and diseases? 2. True or False. Binhing Palay App can be used even without Internet connection.


13 3. It is dry season in Ilocos Region. He wants to plant an inbred variety but he has no idea what. Using the Binhing Palay App, what varieties can Mang Juan consider planting? Activity1.2. Rice App for Nutrient Management: Leaf Color Computing App Introduce the Leaf Color Computing (LCC) App that has the capability to help users determine the right amount and timing of nitrogen fertilizer to apply by capturing rice leaf images using an android device. Activity: 1. As a review, ask a representative participant to demonstrate how to use the LCC App in taking leaf photos using the sample rice plant. 2. Then, ask participants to use the LCC app to generate recommendation for nitrogen fertilizer application using the rice leaf images stored in their phone (given as assignment during the previous meeting). Activity1.3. Rice App for Nutrient Management: Minus-One Element Technique Brief the participants on the Minus One Element Technique (MOET) App which is used to compute field fertilizer requirements, set target yield, and schedule right timing of fertilizer application. Mechanics: 1. Instruct the participants to download the app on Play store by searching . 2. Once installed, input the prepared data on the app to generate a recommendation. 3. Explore the other functions of the MOET App. Activity1.3. Rice App for Nutrient Management: Rice Crop Manager Advisory Services Discuss the Rice Crop Manager Advisory Service (RCMAS) which is a digital agriculture information service that provides farmers with information to improve grain yield and profitability of rice farming through targeted, integrated crop management. Mechanics: 1. Instruct the participants to register as a RCMAS user using this link: https://rcm.da.gov.ph/login


14 2. Fill out the necessary details, read the User Registration Agreement and click 3. Once registered, ask them to explore the platform. Activity1.4. Rice App for Pest Management: e-Damuhan Brief the participants on the e-Damuhan app which is a weed photo recognition and catalog mobile application developed by PhilRice to aid rice stakeholders in proper weed identification and management. Activity (Question and Answer): 1. What are the three types of weeds based on morphology? 2. Identify a weed using the photo of a rice-field weed you previously took and saved in your phone (given as assignment during the previous session). Identify the weed using its common name and its impact on rice. 3. Give at least 3 weed management options. Activity1.5. Rice App for Farm Management: AgriDOC Introduce the AgriDOC App to the participants which intends to innovate delivery of rice crop management, monitoring, and decision support to farmerentrepreneurs and agriculture extension workers through an app Mechanics: 1. Instruct the participants to download the app on Play store or thru this link: http://bit.ly/AgriDOCApp 2. Explore the features of the AgRiDOC App which includes record keeping, geo-visualization, rice crop insight, sharing of access to farm data, task scheduler, and rice key checks & other information Lesson 2. Advanced Social Media Marketing Expound on the following during this section: ● Background on basic concepts of marketing ● Advantages of Social Media Marketing ● What are the different Social Media Platforms for Marketing? ● What are the strategies used in Social Media Marketing?


15 Note: Discuss the 4Ps of Marketing and other related topics presented on the slide show. Also, discuss the content creation and Canva Application. Lesson2.1. Social Media Marketing Plan Guide the participants on how to create a social media marketing plan for their business. Distribute the social media marketing plan template to the participants. Instruct the participants to visualize the social media content marketing they envision for their business. Tell the participants to fill out the template based on the earlier discussion.


16 Activity 2.1. Social Media Plan Presentation Select 3-5 participants to present their social media content and marketing plan to the group. After each presentation, comment on the plan and ask the audience for their feedback. Lesson 3. E-Commerce Platforms e-Commerce in the Philippines as defined on the slide. Mahalaga ang gampanin ng eng negosyo. Noong 2000, pini rmahan ang Republic Act 8792 o ang ECommerce Act. Layunin nito na mapadali at gawing mas ligtas ang electronic transactions ng mga Pilipino. Naging mas kilala pa ang e-commerce sa Pilipinas noong 2012 sa pamamagitan ng Lazada. Dahil sa COVID-19, maraming mga negosyo ang gumamit na rin ng ecommerce. Activity3.1. Ask participants about e-commerce facts and the one who can guess the correct answers wins. See slides for details. Activity3.2. Participants can draw how they see e-commerce affecting their afterwards.


17 Lesson 4.2. e-Commerce Platforms Brief the participants on the basics of the apps they can use for e-commerce. Digital Transactions/Online Payment Discuss digital transactions like Pay Maya and GCash Activity 5.1. Pay Maya Teach the participants how to create their own PayMaya accounts so they can have online and contactless transactions. Instruct the participants to open the PayMaya app. Instruct the participants to start creating their PayMaya account. For this activity, make sure that the farmers are the ones holding the smartphone during the challenge and not the youth participants.

Instruct the participants to open the GCash app. Instruct the participants to start creating their GCash account.
