Opening PrayerReading Together Sharing the WordSharing the BlessingPraying TogetherHave a family member lead in prayer.6 Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, came to David and fell on his face and prostrated himself. And David said, \"Mephibosheth.\" And he said, \"Here is your servant!\" 7 Then David said to him, \"Do not be afraid, for I will assuredly show kindness to you for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul; and you yourself shall eat at my table regularly.\" 8 Again he prostrated himself, and said, \"What is your servant, that you should be concerned about a dead dog like me?\" 9 Then the king summoned Saul's servant Ziba and said to him, \"Everything that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master's grandson. 10 You and your sons and your servants shall cultivate the land for him, and you shall bring in the produce so that your master's grandson will have food to eat, nevertheless Mephibosheth, your master's grandson, shall eat at my table regularly.\" Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. 11 Then Ziba said to the king, \"In accordance with everything that my lord the king commands his servant, so your servant will do.\" So Mephibosheth ate at David's table as one of the king's sons.Have a family member read aloud Today's Message.1. Just as David kept his covenant with Jonathan to the very end, let us share how our family remembers and keeps the grace and promises received from God.2. Let us discuss how we can share God's love with those around us who are like Mephibosheth.May we never forget Your grace and become a covenant family that pours out love like David.Family Worship2026 MarchClose with the Lord’s Prayer2Samuel 9:6-11 Passing on the Love of God to Others
Today’s MessageOne day, David asks if any of King Saul's family remains. The reason is the covenant he made with Jonathan. This was a pledge before God to protect each other's descendants. David never forgot that promise, even as time passed. Then, one name comes to light. Mephibosheth, Jonathan's son, had become crippled in both feet from an accident as a child and was living in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.Standing before David in fear, Mephibosheth prostrated himself, calling himself \"a dead dog\" (v. 8). But David declares an unexpected act of grace: \"Do not be afraid, for I will assuredly show kindness to you for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul; and you yourself shall eat at my table regularly\" (v. 7).He not only summoned Ziba, Saul's servant, to restore all of Saul's land to Mephibosheth and put him to work for him, but he repeatedly emphasized: \"Mephibosheth shall eat at my table regularly\" (vv. 10-11). This was not merely an invitation to the table, but a declaration that he would be treated like a king's son.David honored Mephibosheth greatly because of the covenant with Jonathan. He showed favor to one without merit, calling out the hidden and nameless, making him honorable. This illustrates God's covenant love, giving Mephibosheth a new status not for his merit but because of David's remembrance and the covenant.Do you love your family and keep your promises like David? We are loved unconditionally through Jesus Christ, called by His name, remembered by God, and invited to His table. We, too, must remember the grace received, hold fast to the covenant, and live as those who pour out love. Around us, there are still 'Mephibosheths' who do not know God's table. Let us hope to become people of the covenant who extend a warm hand to them and show Christ's love through our lives and words.
